Rockets _have_ been known to blow up on the launch pad.

Thus, choosing to minimize risk to the public by using RTGs with
plutonium only when absolutely necessary... is an entirely reasonable
decision, consonant with maintaining wide public support for the
    space program.

I agree that there is anti-nuclear hysteria out there, which is a serious problem for dealing effectively with climate change, but this is, I think,
    a small matter.

Depends on how far you're going. The Voyagers certainly woulnd't

How much power out there? You need large, ungainly panels whereas with this probe, solar makes sense:

Panels in space, with a probe like this, aren't "ungainly".

Yes, the mission design has the rover operating in cold and dark. It
comes at a cost, though, of having less power. So they use the RTG to
charge up batteries when the load is otherwise low, and then they can
draw the extra power from there if necessary. And, of course, the RTG
adds a lot of cost to the mission, which meant tradeoffs elsewhere.

His sentence is perfectly understandable as a reply from
context. Which is why the Voyager space probes aren't
operating with solar panels; *they* needed to use RTGs,
and so RTGs were used for the Voyager probes, which _did_
    need them.

Lack of Plutonium is hurting NASA.

How is it hurting the mission? Solar panels are a great

RTGs, generally capable of generating a lot more power.

Depends on how far you're going. The Voyagers certainly >>>>>>>>woulnd't still be operating with solar panels.

    Which is why they aren't!

Why what aren't what? You're incoherent.

Try reading. It was a response to your comment. Quoted.

So you have no idea what you're jibbering about either, eh?

Again, why what aren't whay? Why the Voyagers aren't still
operating? Why the Voyagers aren't designed with solar panels?
I have no idea what you'er jibbering about. And clearly,
    neither do you.

    Are you brain damaged?

    You're projecting. Again.

You said, "The Voyagers certainly woulnd't [sic] still be
operating with solar panels." To which I replied, "Which is
    why they aren't!"

Now that wasn't so hard, was it?

What? Repeating exactly what was already there

    Liar.

    But then, you do that.
