Scientists have discovered glass in the Atacama Desert (home to a large observatory!) was made by a cometary airburst:

about 12,000 years ago.
Could it be that the extinction of the megafauna, like iguanas that were as big as dinosaurs, was due to this, and not to the first people of the Americas? At first, despite the coincidence in time, that seems unlikely, as it wasn't enough to cause a
mass extinction. Or was it?
