I liked how he threw away the bottle with the words "krill" on it. Just this past week
I compared a bottle of 120 capsules prominently marked "krill" and then saw that
it had only 25 mg of DHA and not much more EPA. It cost far more than twice
a bottle of 60 capsules by Nordic Naturals of fish oil from anchovies and sardines.
Each capsule contains 220 mg DHA and 330 mg EPA.

They're saying a serving size is two capsules so divide those
numbers by 2: 645mg EPA and 310mg DHA.
That's the Omega-3s in one capsule.
Walmart. It was like $30 for the bottle.
Seaweed is a great source of EPA, btw. Any Asian market has
shelves full of the stuff... different brands...
Recommended dose: twice a day, which I have been taking since I bought
two bottles -- except today, when I took one in the morning and then
had at least four ounces of salmon in the evening.
Food is always the better alternative. Your body is way more likely
to absorb things in food than as supplements. I know I read a study
a million years ago that said even fish with not-very-high levels of
Omega-3s out performed supplements, and we all know the problem
with things like iron, where your body loves to ignore it when it's not
in red meat.
So always go with your salmon. Which I hate.
I finished off my shrimp, which doesn't have a lot anyway, but I
still have some bay scallops and salmon... and I hate salmon.
I eat it sometimes. Yuck.
Do you think I might experience some good effects in the next two months?
On a mad, Mad, MAD Omega-3 binge, and I was taking at least
2000mg a day, I did lower my triglycerides but not as much as
they had been lowered by a prescription medication. And my "Good
Cholesterol" has gone up.
Those are objective measures.
Increased Omega-3s can also relieve depression, some studies
have shown. Whether it helps with other mental health issues,
we can always hope.
PS Back between 5 and 10 years ago, I saw a lot of online ads touting
krill oil as a much better source of Omega-3 than fish oil.
I'm glad I didn't order any of it.
Fish oil is gross. You burp an hour later and get the taste of dead
fish in your mouth! I took one earlier anyway.
Also, some people just plain don't need a lot. They get it from their
diet and woman, as I keep pointing out, are better than men at
synthesizing DHA from ALA we consume.
