• Yes or no: Does Naledi have a baculum?

    From I Envy JTEM@21:1/5 to All on Tue Oct 26 11:41:13 2021
Honest to God, you can accuse me of being a
conspiracy freak but there is So! Little!
information about Naledi available, and So!
Much! has been made of it, claimed for it that
I sometimes wonder if it even exists... if it's
    all just made up.

They claim to be able to pull DNA from extremely
degraded bones, even when the bones have
decomposed entirely, even in caves, even in
tropical climates yet Naledi is supposed to be like
the single greatest cache of paleo remains EVER
and they found nothing. Zilch. Nada.

And remember the 2 million years PLUS age?

    The intentional burials?

The modern features of the brain?

Why, I'm surprised they haven't found a loom yet!

So in all these hundreds of bones of Naledi is there
    a baculum or isn't there?

Are there any males? How can they tell? Where are
the papers explaining ANY of this rather than
simply making pronouncements... like the top of
a cranium that came from a male; was it labelled?
Do Naledi bones come with serial numbers and a
parts list so they can tell?

    No.

Okay, but did you actually see that published anywhere or is
    that an educated guess?

    Biological logic:

Baculli are most common in quadrupeds, least in bipeds, none in obligate orthograde striding bipeds with a history of brachiation. H naledi was amongst the second and most probably the third. P & G are part-time quadrupeds and have the anatomy reflected
    by that, including nominal baculli.
