Most likely, the retarded PAs "reasoned":
- Pan & Gorilla live in Africa, hence Homo comes from Africa,
- P+G live in forests quadrupedally, Homo lives outside forests bipedally,
- outside forest in Africa = savanna (moreover, Taung... were found in the S.African "veldt" of Transvaal...).
But: we now know:
- the Homo-Pan last common ancestor >5 Ma most likely lived in swamp forests of the Red Sea (then still incipient),
- Miocene hominids & even hominoids were already bipedal: the waded upright + climbed arms overhed in the branches above the water.
When the Red Sea opened into the Gulf (Francesca mansfield thinks 5.33 Ma, caused by the Zanclean mega-flood?):
- Pan went right -> E.Afr.coastal forests -> incipient southern Rift -> Transvaal -> africanus->robustus -> now paniscus & troglodytes,
- Homo went left -> S.Asian coast -> e.g. H.erectus early-Pleist. Mojokerto Java etc.
