In a Quality over Quantity breeding strategy,
    shortness is an advantage.

    How?

Apparently short people live longer, as a group.
So if you're a Neanderthals and you want
to be the first humans for whom grandparents
aren't unheard of, being short helps.

And if you're from a sexually selected group,
being tall is no advantage because getting old
    is a disadvantage...

No, I'm not saying that Neanderthals were short
because they weren't sexually selected. I'm saying
that it is a potential contributor.

    RABBITS!

Rabbits have big ears that are great for hearing.
But their also useful for regulating body temperature,
supposedly. I think of physical adaptations a lot like
kitchen appliances: If they're single use, they don't
have a big chance of sticking around...

I think Neanderthals were cold adapted. And they
were probably good climbers. And they probably
beat the living shit out of each other...

The gravity of the situation, vis a vis your mental health, is
    troubling to say the least.
