Birds evolved from dinosaurs so they are dinosaurs. But
dinosaurs evolved from reptiles so dinosaurs were
reptiles, which means that birds are reptiles. Only reptiles
evolved from amphibians, and dinosaurs were reptiles so
they were amphibians, and birds are dinosaurs which were
reptiles which are amphibians, so birds are amphibians.
But amphibians are fish, and reptiles are amphibians,
which are fish, so reptiles are fish. And dinosaurs were
reptiles – which are amphibians, who are in turn fish – so
dinosaurs were fish. This means that birds have to be fish.
This explains the gills. Or doesn’t. I always get confused on
that point…
