    - Great apes in Tethys coastal forests split with Mesopotamian Seaway closure c 15 Ma in hominids (W) & pongids (E).
    - Hominids along Med.Sea + rivers died out late-Miocene, except in Red Sea.
    - E.Afr.Rift formation split Gorilla (followed rift->afarensis->boisei) from Homo-Pan.
    - Zanclean flood c 5 Ma + opening Red Sea into Ind.Ocean -> Pliocene Pan along E.Afr.coasts->Austr.africanus->robustus: evolution Gorilla//Pan from late-Pliocene "gracile" afarensis//africanus to early-Pleist."robust" boisei//robustus,
    - Pliocene Homo along S-Asian coasts ->H.erectus early-Pleistocene shellfish-diving, google "coastal dispersal Pleistocene Homo PPT" ->H.neand.mid-Pleist.diving-wading coast+rivers->H.sapiens late-Pleist.wading-walking.
    Easy no?

    IOW, the endurance running nonsense is most unscientific idea thinkable (flat-footed running after antelopes... :-DDD): there's no doubt H.erectus frequently dived, most likely mostly for shellfish: large brain, stone tools, pachyosteosclerosis, flat
    feet, broad body, island colonizations, platycephaly etc.etc.
