Devils actually took the suspension to court, where they issued a restraining order, just minutes before game time. Incensed by the order, the on-ice officials for Game 4, refused to work the game, in essence, staging a wildcat strike. An emergency call
went out to get on-ice officials, and they were found. The game was delayed by over 67 minutes due to the bizarre situation.

    Note:
The 5/24 game was suspended when a transformer blew at the Boston Garden and it was feared the generator would only hold out another 30 minutes. Thus, the game was cancelled. Game 4 was replayed in Edmonton. CBC had the rights to air game 5, Canwest
also had the rights to Games 6 and 7 of the Finals (Game 7 would have been produced separately by CBC & CanWest-Global), which were not necessary.

kicked into gear. The generators were only able to illuminate the rink surface with enough power to keep the game moving. (In Boston, WSBK-TV lost the picture but continued to carry audio of the game thanks to Fred Cusick and Derek Sanderson talking into

    Note:
After Game 3, there was a confrontation between New Jersey Devils coach Jim Schoenfeld and referee Don Koharski. It was heated, and it ended with Schoenfeld making the infamous insult “Good, ‘cause you fell you fat pig” and then “Have Another
Donut” to Koharski. The incident has since become part of NHL lore. Schoenfeld was suspended by NHL president John Ziegler for Game 4, but the Devils received an injunction from a New Jersey court, allowing Schoenfeld to coach the fourth game. In
protest, the officials scheduled to work that game in the Meadlowands refused to take the ice, forcing the NHL to scramble for amateur officials to call the game. The game was delayed by over 67 minutes due to the bizarre situation. The injunction was
lifted, the league conducted a proper hearing, Schoenfeld served his suspension during Game 5 in the Boston Garden, and the League officials returned to work.

    Note:
In the United States, this was the final year under ESPN’s national three-year deal. Under the U.S. TV contracts that took effect beginning next season, SportsChannel America took over as the NHL's American television partner. ESPN’s coverage of the
1988 Cup Finals was blacked out locally in the Boston area due to WSBK and NESN's local rights to Bruins games.

The original game 4 was cancelled when a power outage occurred at the Boston Garden, and it was feared the generator would only hold out for another 30 minutes. Game 4 was replayed in Edmonton, which Edmonton Oilers won. ESPN also had the rights to air
the rest of the Stanley Cup Finals, which were not necessary.

Game 1, 4/18, CBC (1st period only). Bob Cole, Harry Neale, Dick Irvin
Game 2, 4/18, CBC. Bob Cole, Harry Neale, Dick Irvin

Game 5, 4/26, CBC. Bob Cole, Harry Neale, Dick Irvin

    Note:
On April 18, 1988 (during Game 1 of the Montréal-Boston playoff series) at approximately 8:08 p.m. local time, there was a power outage in the province of Québec. While darkness enveloped Montréal and the Forum itself, the Forum’s reserve generators
kicked into gear. The generators were only able to illuminate the rink surface with enough power to keep the game moving. Ultimately, CBC was left with no choice but to abandon coverage after the first period. (In Boston, WSBK-TV lost the picture but
continued to carry audio of the game thanks to Fred Cusick and Derek Sanderson talking into a telephone line.)

    Note:
CBC assigned Chris Cuthbert to report updates on Game 1 of the New Jersey Devils-Washington Capitals series. However, when the Québec blackout cancelled CBC coverage of the BOS-MTL game after 1st period, CBC threw to him and the solitary camera beside
him in his coverage position to call the rest of the game. The whole process was totally done without notice. In other words, there were no graphics, no replay capabilities, and no analyst.

Schoenfeld was suspended by NHL president John Ziegler and disciplinarian Brian O'Neill for Game 4, but the Devils received an injunction from a New Jersey court, allowing Schoenfeld
to coach the fourth game. In protest, the officials scheduled to work that game in the Meadowlands refused to take the ice, forcing the NHL to scramble for amateur officials to call the game. The game was delayed by over 67 minutes due to the bizarre
situation. The injunction was lifted, the league conducted a proper hearing, Schoenfeld served his suspension during Game 5 in the Boston Garden, and the League officials returned to work.

    Note:
The original game 4 was cancelled when a power outage occurred at Boston Garden, and it was feared the generator would only hold out for another 30 minutes. Game 4 was replayed in Edmonton, which Edmonton Oilers won. CBC had the rights to game 5 of
Stanley Cup Finals, and Canwest/Global also had the rights to games 6 & 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals between Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins (both CBC and Canwest/Global had the rights of Game 7, using separate production facilities and separate on-air
    talent), which were not necessary.

    Note:
On April 18, 1988 (during Game 1 of the Montréal-Boston playoff series) at approximately 8:08 p.m. local time, there was a power outage in the province of Québec. While darkness enveloped Montréal and the Forum itself, the Forum's reserve generators
kicked into gear. The generators were only able to illuminate the rink surface with enough power to keep the game moving. (In Boston, WSBK-TV lost the picture but continued to carry audio of the game thanks to Fred Cusick and Derek Sanderson talking into
    a telephone line.)

ESPN also had the rights to air
the rest of the Stanley Cup Final, which were not necessary.
