TSN's NHL coverage was sparse until 87-88--they had no contract with the NHL and only acquired games a la carte. As far as I can remember, he did work for CBC during the regular season up until 1987. From 1987 onward, he worked for TSN full time. As
It should also be noted that these were the first playoffs with Ron MacLean in the lead host position, as he replaced Dave Hodge mid-season due to the famous "pencil incident". Hodge was "banished" to west coast telecasts for the remainder of theseason, at which point I think his contract ran out and he was not kept on for the playoffs. This freed him to work on Global's Stanley Cup '87 coverage.

Thanks for your assistance. I do have a couple of questions...
1. Does this mean that Chris Cuthbert was idle for the first round? Or did he do studio work perchance for HNIC?

Is this correct or is your recall of TSN's 88-89 NHL coverage different? Yes, I believe Cuthbert did studio work in the Edmonton/LA, Calgary/LA, and Calgary/Chicago series. At that time he was the #4 play-by-play man on CBC's depth chart and they were only covering 3 first-round series. The following year (1990), he didplay-by-play in the first round Calgary/LA series.
