Future George Fox (then Pacific College) president Emmett Gulley earned
all conference honors playing baseball and basketball. As a center,
Gulley captained the basketball team that once defeated Oregon State University (then Oregon State Agricultural College.) He also was a
dominant pitcher, helping the baseball team to an undefeated 1917
season. Gulley served on the college faculty for 17 years, for six years
as president (1941-1947), and was named 1967 Alumnus of the Year.

I generally didn't pay a lot of attention to all that. I tried a
couple of times to give him some advice to try to keep him out of
trouble, but you couldn't tell him anything. He even gave me death
treats, but only "Mop Jockey" ever got an apology. Do you ever wonder
about that?

Emmett has some issues. Don't see him improving much at any point in time.

We aren't very successful at treating mental problems. I believe
there's a strong correlation between our increasingly complicated and stressful lives, and the number of people who end up flipping out over
it.
