Friday and I am John Henry from John
henry.us as those of you who follow my
Facebook page know I've uh had a rough
couple of days um been dealing with some
depression and then yesterday I had a
bunch of drama that has just been
killing me for 25 years uh all broke
loose and uh some things uh were made
undeniably clear to me
uh and I've been uh kind of wrestling
with that and parsing it and figure out
what I want to do about it and also
trying to get my my mental state uh back
in order uh as I absorb the reality that
you know the last 25 years of my life
with all of this you know attacks and my
parents being harassed and my kid being
threatened and my jobs being contacted
and my family being harassed and my
friends being harassed and my readers
being contacted back Channel wasn't my
imagination it's something that's
actually happening
um and so absorbing that
uh has uh kind of of kept being tied up
in my own head for the last couple of
days uh and uh I I haven't been really
producing and I apologize for that uh
but I did want to stop in uh drop you
guys a quick live stream just because I
miss being live with you uh let you know
how I'm doing say hi let you see my face
let you see that I'm actually still
functioning and out here you know doing
my things sober I'm not you know
crashed into a corner someplace or in a
jail cell or any of the the filthy
rumors that you tend to hear uh uh when
power decides to strike back against
those who challenge him
um
so yeah uh this uh last few months uh
has been a real Whirlwind for me um
those of you who've been following the
page for a long time know that at the
beginning of the year I I was you know
homeless got jacked around by a landlord
who stole my car under legal cover
because he had his buddy cut my brake
lines so I couldn't drive it off and
then had it towed because it was
abandoned right
um and and frankly these are the kind of
people that had been surrounded by for
most of my life
um and and the last few months uh has
been sort of the culmination of a couple
of years of slowly pruding those people
away from me um and it has hurt it has
hurt a lot because I really cared for a
lot of those people some of them were
family
um but uh independent of my will and the
way I would rather have had things work
out these people have have chosen uh to
uh you know
attack and Target and hurt uh betray lie
all kinds of things uh at my expense
because they know that they can't come
out and
stand up to this face to face they can't
so uh that's that's
unfortunately uh what has been occupied
my mind for the last day or so uh with
all that said what has been occupying my
mind for the last couple of months
especially the last month has been an
outright full steam ahead uh you know
all all Rudders forward uh blast of
content creation and reorganization and
rebuilding and reorganizing uh and and
focusing on or finding my focus or
refocus on various work
and I wanted you to know that I'm not
losing sight of that I want you to know
that the additional features that I'm
putting on the site like the video game
section and things like that are in no
way uh to suggest that I'm you know
leaving politics or getting out of
social uh justice work or any of that
stuff it's just you know one more
content uh package uh and and one that I
feel a lot less
cringy about monetizing quite frankly I
don't mind running ads on a page about a
video game I I do mind running ads on
pages about you know ideological purpose
uh often anti-fascist ideological
purpose which makes the running of ads
on it pretty ironic
um I would rather not have to do that at
all and really the only reason I'm still
running ads is because I've got like 80
bucks built up on my Google AdSense
account and they don't pay out until I
hit 100 so I'm just leaving it up until
I hit that threshold to get my check and
then I'm going to take it down
I I don't care to run ads on my sites
anymore that's just all there is to it
and quite frankly I mean that hundred
bucks
that's seven or eight years right I mean
the the the revenue from from website ad
traffic has just absolutely cratered in
the last in the last six seven years uh
it's it's not a viable approach anymore
unless you're running a giant farm with
you know 75 or 80 different websites and
so on and so forth uh and in that case
you probably don't really need the money
anyway so
um I wanted to talk about a couple of
things uh real quick and gently I don't
want anybody to feel like I'm you know
climbing up them personally or anything
um but there's been you know Stuart
Rhodes The Oath Keepers leader was
sentenced yesterday to 18 years in
federal prison
and good by the way I mean as far as I'm
concerned by All rights in spite of the
fact that I am opposed to capital
punishment
uh by the letter of the law he should
have got the death penalty
um and that's you know that's real
uh and in the the aftermath of that
there's been a lot of you know just just
general kind of you know jocularity and
joking and and a little bit of that you
know uh hubris on the left like we
finally nailed this bastard uh and good
but I'm also seeing a lot of jokes about
you know don't drop the soap and don't
bend over in the shower and that kind of
stuff
um and and again you know
I'm 53 years old okay so I understand
the transition between the time when
those jokes were okay and now I get it I
I myself sometimes kind of lose and you
know I'll reach for a word or something
or or a thought and go well no that's
not really cool that's that's not the
way we do things anymore
um and and it's a conscious effort
sometimes to pull back from that stuff
especially when you start you know you
start throwing around words like redneck
or you know what have you and and it
kind of slips by sometimes that because
some labels apply to a majority or to a
self-selected group of particularly
creitness individuals uh that it's okay
to continue you know to to to to stoop
to the sort of broad scale uh you know
Prejudice and labeling uh of their you
know social identity group whether it's
you know white Southerners or whatever
and and the reality is is you know as
much as uh I myself take a great deal of
joy and amusement at the fact that this
clown is imprisoned for the rest of his
life
um
I I really want to gently remind folks
that rape jokes aren't funny
um and and
yeah I mean they're just not right I've
seen a couple of really good comedians
pull out a couple of lines they gotta
chuckle out of me or whatever because
they were trying to make the point that
yes it can okay but
you know if you want to make your point
from a stage in front of 25 000 people
and you've got a 30-year career backing
you up
I might I might listen to that but I'm
not I'm not gonna go back and forth
about it uh the the the the start fact
is for most of us uh we we are not in a
position to find a way to make that
funny uh and the problem is the reason
that I'm bringing it up is because
you know there are people out there who
are the victims of sexual assaults and
that's really triggery and harmful to
them
um especially given the way that our
culture approaches the question of men
being sexually assaulted which is a
subject that I have way too much
familiarity with for my own taste
um
so yeah I just I just you know just a
gentle sort of hey maybe maybe let's
dial it back a little bit on the drop in
the soap jokes okay and that's that's
not cool
uh and I know I'm not judging anybody
about it like I said I get it times
change man I grew up in the 70s and 80s
I used to read books I remember those
truly tasteless jokes books that were
full of nothing but racism and you know
ableism or Helen Keller jokes dead baby
jokes and all that stuff right I mean
that's that's the world I grew up in
that was entire that was socially
acceptable you were a social outcast if
you weren't participating in that kind
of stuff when I was you know 12 13 14
years old
um and and so I definitely understand
that that mental shift where you
you know you're just tooting along you
think oh that's funny and you go oh hey
and it doesn't really Dawn because for
some of us this is kind of new thinking
right this is this is a new way of
approaching this kind of stuff uh and
thinking about this stuff and and adding
more Nuance to it and more depth and
consideration
and we're not used to it that's all uh
and and I don't I don't think anybody
out there is uh generally speaking and
there's probably a couple of [__]
but I don't think anybody out there is
thinking of that in terms of you know
making light of sexual assault uh and
that's kind of the problem because it's
that's what it is
um and and so yeah I'm just you know
like I said I'm not raising the Raging
or pointing anybody out or dragging
anybody out for torches and pitchforks
or anything else I'm just saying you
know if it crosses your mind
to think that you know uh the best or
funniest thing that you can say about
Stuart Rhodes getting arrested is that
he's probably going to get raped in the
shower let me let let that one go you
know
um
that's all that's all just just
you know
let's go ahead and and make a decision
amongst ourselves that we're gonna we're
gonna make a willful effort to to not
reach for that anymore
um because to me that's that's getting
awfully close to you know Pig's demand
men to pigs and and I don't like that
feeling
um God knows I've been guilty of of you
know saying and and uh you know putting
things out into the world over the years
myself that I later you know in
retrospect regretted or or found myself
even disagreeing with uh and and so I'm
trying to be kind of gentle
in my admonishment here because I don't
want anybody to feel like I'm attacking
them
um they just you know would like you to
consider the possibility that maybe what
you think is funny might be unfunny to
some people who really don't deserve to
to have to deal with that so
um
I wanted to chat about another uh little
thing
while I was here
um
I was having a conversation with with
one of my readers George uh and and uh
he was talking about you know liberals
and leftists and so on and so forth and
our radical misunderstanding of what the
words liberal and conservative actually
mean in a political context
uh is one of those things that drives a
lot of disinformation and wasted energy
and and creates a lot of you know uh
pointless uh uh conflict and argument
and so on and so forth uh and and I just
wanted to talk a little bit about what
those words actually mean so that you
can be better equipped uh you know to
speak your piece effectively
in phrase that's why I went to college
at age 40 because I had hit my limit of
of being able to self-educate uh and and
I needed to you know pick up
nomenclature for political science
because I knew there were words for
Concepts that I had but didn't have the
words for uh and and I look at a lot of
what I do in these videos especially
when it gets into the you know the
didactic stuff of you know word
definitions and understanding ideologies
and philosophies
um I really feel like that's that's
kind of the purpose of all of this is to
do the best I can to transmit that
education that I got
um to you so that you can understand it
so
liberal and conservative
from a political standpoint
do not have
a left right can't or valence or or
implication right liberal is not
synonymous with left conservative is not
synonymous with right
liberal just means that you favor change
as opposed to maintaining the status quo
conservative means the opposite that is
what conservatives are conserving is
their status quo
the reason that this gets so confused is
because what happens is you have Rising
leftist power
that is liberal because it is cutting it
into a context where it's leftist
ideology or its Progressive ideology is
not the status quo
and so these are liberal left
progressives who are rising to power now
when they win
when the liberal leftists
are the status quo they're not liberal
anymore they're conservative even their
ideology didn't change their beliefs
didn't change
their context changed
liberal and conservative in a political
sense are meaningless words without
establishing that Center Point context
of what is the status quo those words
only have real meaning politically when
they are a reflection of a relationship
to an existing status quo right so the
example that I gave that I gave my
reader George when I was talking with
him about it was
years ago as a supporter of gay marriage
that was a very liberal position because
gay marriage was illegal all across the
country
now it is legal it is the status quo and
therefore my support for gay marriage is
now
conservative
it gets even hairier because if you open
that that discussion up to the world
rather than just the United States now
all of a sudden I'm liberal again
because it's not the status quo in the
world it's the status quo in the United
States right the majority of the rest of
the world still doesn't have good gay
marriage regulation uh and an allowance
for that uh and and so in that context
I'm liberal but in the American context
I'm conservative because we're already
there with that
um
like I say the reason this happens is
because you know you get your left and
they rise and then they are the status
quo now they want to hold on to their
power right and and again it's it may be
completely honorable motivations and for
the best of causes but they're still
trying to hold on to their power
um and unfortunately human beings and
people and and so on and so forth power
corrupts and Etc one of the biggest ways
that power corrupts is you have to hold
on to it and you start making
compromises cutting corners and getting
into ends justifies the means thinking
and that is how all of a sudden you get
like the Democratic party in this
country right we are still the majority
of us are still hung up on this idea
that the Democratic party is a left-wing
political party and it's not the power
core of the political party the bidens
the clintons the Obamas these folks are
center-right moderates
and small are Republicans most of them
right Obama has even come out and said
multiple times in interviews before and
during his presidency I'm a conservative
and a Republican right no he he believes
in our Republican form of government in
in the idea that a republic a
representative democracy in the form of
a heroic is mechanically the best
solution for government I happen to
agree uh I've I've been looking uh for
most of my life at the Constitution one
way or the other and from a mechanical
standpoint I don't think a thousand
people working together could come up
with a a more uh nuanced balance of
power uh between people in government
and commerce the biggest problem is that
the entire thing was built in a
capitalist context right and so
Commerce and Industry are treated as a
sort of you know third equal partner in
a three-pronged system of people
government and commerce when in reality
other than for the fact of capitalism
Commerce really doesn't have rights
right businesses don't have rights human
beings have rights
okay you as a human being have a right
to run a business that does this or that
or the other thing your business
I don't care what the Supreme Court says
right I mean I can see her all day long
and say my grandmother is a roller skate
and I can even put wheels on her but
she's still not a roller skate and no
matter what the Supreme Court says
that's it's just that's that's no it's
it's not no
um
so
the reason why I'm I'm kind of talking
about this is because it's I feel like
it's really important to understand
because now you've got this kind of
Muddy Water right it started with Milton
Friedman uh the the notice noted
neo-fascist communist uh Economist uh
from Chicago uh who's been hugely
influential in American politics for the
last 40 or 50 years and he was the guy
that first formulated and spoke out loud
the idea that money and political power
are the same thing and that's okay so I
mean he's the the dude's a real piece of
work
um but also I have to grudgingly credit
his accuracy when he spoke of himself in
1980 as a liberal he was right in spite
of the fact that he was a radical
right-wing capitalist he was also
liberal because the policy changes and
implementations and ideas that he was
pushing opposed the existing status quo
which in his time was much more
Progressive than it is now relative to
its own contextual Center
um
so so
what happens is you start throwing these
words liberal conservative around and
even I mean it's you know in the UK and
Australia they've even named their
parties at which is just ludicrous
right
now all of a sudden they've lost meaning
right now David Duke or Donald Ray
Donald Trump is always the example I go
to because and people hate it when I say
this they hate it when I say this but
I'm right Donald Trump is the most
liberal president of my Lifetime by far
by far what makes him the most liberal
president in my lifetime is he went in
and cored out the entire system he
didn't give a rip about existing
regulation about jurisprudence about
precedent nothing he didn't care Yank It
All Out throw it out if it doesn't
profit me it's gone we're changing
everything so me and my plutocrat
buddies can make a bunch of money
because our system isn't set up enough
for that now so we're gonna radically
rearrange it that's liberal
radical change that's liberal
right
and and it blows gaskets man people just
can't get their heads around the idea
that Donald Trump is liberal and the
reason for that is because we have been
taught to identify ourselves with those
labels right I still do it sometimes
just because it's a you know a
linguistic habit I still call myself a
liberal and I'm really not in a lot of
ways right especially personally like in
terms of you know brands that I shop for
or whatever the things that I use and
consume I'm extraordinarily conservative
when I find a product I like I tend to
stick with it I've been using the same
brand of shampoo for 35 years
you know because I like it it works very
well for me and I like the way it makes
my hair look so you know in that sense
I'm very conservative you know uh
the the uh the Dobbs decision
right uh that that uh open the door to
all this uh this pushback against
abortion that was a liberal decision
because the status quo was that abortion
is legal
and that changed it
right it was a right-wing decision made
for the purposes of Oppression
but it was still liberal
and it's really really an important
exercise I think uh for us as consumers
of political information to make sure
we've got a good solid hand around some
of these word definitions not because
I'm a parent and blah blah blah you know
linguistic concreten issue not that's
not the point the point is is that the
the the the the linguistic malleability
uh that that we live with is leveraged
intentionally to disinform and to Cloud
Waters so that we can't have substantive
and meaningful conversations that's why
it's important so uh and I think I'm
gonna go ahead and wrap it up I just
heard my roommate come in from work uh
I'm gonna go ahead and and shut her down
uh and I will see you all very soon

back into something like a regular

um like I said it's uh you know between
uh
between uh the events of the last couple
of days and the impact that it was had
on my mental health I just haven't been
at my best uh for the last couple days

um the the the amount of stupid Petty
drama that I have been burdened with
over the last 25 years it's just been

attacks come there's still a core of
people out there who see past that crap
and understand that what I'm doing here
is critically important to the Future
this country and of human democracy so
