• Announcement from John Henry.

From Laz Mann@21:1/5 to All on Sat Apr 1 11:07:05 2023
John's currently housed - not a permanent situation, but stable and he
should have at least six months or so to kind of re-center himself after
about five years of external chaos and challenge, which his regular
readers will be well familiar with and need not be recounted here.

To be clear: this is JH's job. A lot has changed over the last two or
three months that he needs to write about separately in greater detail
another time, but that reality will not change. He's not "looking for
work" or "struggling to find work." He IS working. He just has to make
the work pay, and the biggest key to that is simply being able to get
the work done on a consistent basis.

John's living situation has presented a major challenge to that process
for several years now, and he believes that issue is now resolved, at
least temporarily. This doesn't mean "no more fundraising," at all. It
just means he's not currently panicked about where he's going to sleep,
what he's going to eat, etc.

This privilege will allow JH to begin the process of shifting
fundraising focus from immediate survival needs and panic to building a
    solid base of ongoing support.

What's next? John is re-organizing his work to be less chaotic and more comprehensive on both the creative and consumer ends. This is an ongoing process that never stops, but he's taken some major steps recently that
should make it easier for everyone to keep up with what he's doing,
    where, why, how, etc.

First, for those intrigued by his ideas, he's restarting his newsletter.
Going forward he'll be sending out a new edition of "Breaking Through"
once a week on Saturdays, and it will basically be a digest of
everything he's done that week in terms of content, plus occasional
little notes and observations as well as any news about upcoming
projects or content drops. You can find that at johnhenryus.substack.com.

In terms of other writing, you can expect to start seeing a new Medium
column at least weekly as well; JH will include a "friends link" to that
in the Substack digest so you don't get caught by the paywall when you
    go to read it.

If you're a Medium.Com subscriber you can find and follow him there at https://medium.com/@johnhenryus. Those articles will be designed as
mid-length, professional-style pieces mostly focusing on JH's usual
areas of expertise - politics, communication, social justice, with
occasional appearances from other interests like music, films, or
gaming. The content you can find there now is pretty representative
of how he intends to keep that platform operating.

John should have more video content including livestreams coming as
well, but right now things are too chaotic to commit to any kind of
    clear schedule. Best bet for now is to keep an eye on his social media;
as he continues organizing and getting his workflow into shape he'll be
able to more reliably commit to things like getting "The John Henry
Show" back into a regular time slot, and releasing new pre-recorded
content with proper advance work and so forth.

The big idea is to get some work built up and banked, so then when John
has days when he's got other things that need attention, he'll still
have fresh content banked and ready to roll. There's much more planned.

About the most recent fundraiser: Thank you. There is absolutely no
question that the last couple of months have been about as rock-bottom
as it gets, and John Henry absolutely would not have survived it without
the support of his readers and friends.

Circumstances have changed radically since the first of the year, and
the conditions he had framed the 10K fundraiser in simply no longer
apply. He's going to be removing the content specific to that from the
website; there's just no point in continuing to use that frame for
fundraising because so much has changed. There's an archive available at archive.ph/LSqC7 if anyone needs to reference the old material.

JH is very much still focused on the Big Picture that he always has
been, which is getting a little media production studio built and
creating new activist & social justice media while also expanding his
content beyond that work as time and resources allow. To John's mind,
the activism is his "job" and anything done for profit or entertainment
is "hobby." It just works out for him that he can use the same tools for
    both.

To that end, expect to see more content from JH related to non-political subjects like music, film, books, or just general musings and
observations and "think pieces" that fall outside of that space where
he's traditionally done most of my work.

To be clear that doesn't mean a reduction in the "real work," it mostly
means that John is finally - after many, many years - getting into a
space where he feels like he can realistically put a little focus in
that direction and perhaps find ways to generate further income there,
if nothing else than via website advertising, tip jar, etc., and thereby
reduce reliance on calls to action related to emergency needs.

As far as everything else: John is currently working on some website restructuring and back-end housekeeping and maintenance on JohnHenry.US as well as Custode.Org and WeAntiFascists.Com.
The end point here will be to start building Custode as a resource for
fighting information illiteracy and malinformation, get the antifa site functioning properly as an information resource, and get his own site
focused more on things that matter to him including politics and social
issues but also spreading far beyond.

As time progresses, you'll start seeing content relevant to those sites
and their associated scopes appearing there rather than at JHUS,
Medium, or generic social media posts. There will be plenty of
things to continue discussing in the political realm on JHUS as well.

As far as fundraising: JH is setting a monthly goal that will change
over time but is intended to represent "minimum needs." He'll include an
update on monthly fundraising progress in each weekly newsletter, as
well as transparency & reporting related to any "excess" and how that's
being spent, just real basic stuff: "Bills - 30%, Bank - 0" or "Bills
    100%, Bank $360."

This allows John to maintain transparency and make sure people know
where their money's being used, without having to provide receipts to
the entire planet every time he buys a candy bar or pays for a monthly
software subscription. Casting the base as a percentage also saves John
from having to spend two weeks explaining himself every time
expenses/needs increase; 100% is always 100%. At the same time reporting
excess as a dollar amount lets you know how things are going and gives a
chance to talk about current goals beyond just paying bills.

The Substack newsletter will also end up containing little notes about
new things including tools and equipment and other business-related
spending. This will probably be the very best way to keep up with what
John is doing and be sure you don't miss anything, for the foreseeable
    future.

Beyond all of that, John's in pretty decent head space right now and
feels very productive! A little bit of anxiety delay/executive
dysfunction happening, but that's just normal day to day for him.

Much of the last two months - and especially the last three weeks since
he got out of the hotel - have been spend going through the same
processes he described above, but in his personal life: going through
his few boxes of belongings and throwing out the things that he doesn't
need, sorting clothes, generally cleaning up and organizing and a lot of similar work that he's been unable to do in previous living
circumstances. John feels very positive about the future, in spite of
still facing some very real challenges in the present, and he looks
forward to stepping things up by several notches in the coming weeks and months, as always with your support and encouragement!

    Thanks for reading. paypal.me/johnhenryus

Mixed Nuts can help. He has lots of money because he's a super dooper
smart high IQ scientist and invested well in the evil capitalist stock
market. Plus he's totally down with John's ideas, so write to Nuts I'm

    John's currently [SLAP!]

    mooching.

He also doesn't give a fuck about his daughter or any of his other
previous victims. So four words summarize all of your blathering.

    "Same begging, different day."

He's not "looking for work" or "struggling to find work."

So he's not going to make any effort at all. Thanks for clearing that
up. Good to see nothing has changed.

John's living situation has presented a major challenge to that
process for several years now, and he believes that issue is now

Could you clarify if you meant since his last Utah landlord, Chadweasel
or his brother kicked him out? It's only resolved until he gets kicked
    out again.

This doesn't mean "no more fundraising," at all.

So John expects everyone else to continue to pay for his bad choices?

That sounds like a fitting summary of John's life. Perhaps he should
tape that to the cardboard box he'll be cremated in.

content beyond that work as time and resources allow. To John's mind,
the activism is his "job" and anything done for profit or entertainment
is "hobby." It just works out for him that he can use the same tools
    for both.

To that end, expect to see more content from JH related to
non-political subjects like music, film, books, or just general musings
and observations and "think pieces" that fall outside of that space
where he's traditionally done most of my work.

To be clear that doesn't mean a reduction in the "real work," it mostly
means that John is finally - after many, many years - getting into a
space where he feels like he can realistically put a little focus in
that direction and perhaps find ways to generate further income there,
if nothing else than via website advertising, tip jar, etc., and
thereby reduce reliance on calls to action related to emergency needs.

As far as everything else: John is currently working on some website
restructuring and back-end housekeeping and maintenance on JohnHenry.US
as well as Custode.Org and WeAntiFascists.Com.
The end point here will be to start building Custode as a resource for
fighting information illiteracy and malinformation, get the antifa site
functioning properly as an information resource, and get his own site
focused more on things that matter to him including politics and social
issues but also spreading far beyond.

As time progresses, you'll start seeing content relevant to those sites
and their associated scopes appearing there rather than at JHUS,
Medium, or generic social media posts. There will be plenty of things
to continue discussing in the political realm on JHUS as well.

As far as fundraising: JH is setting a monthly goal that will change
over time but is intended to represent "minimum needs." He'll include
an update on monthly fundraising progress in each weekly newsletter, as
well as transparency & reporting related to any "excess" and how that's
being spent, just real basic stuff: "Bills - 30%, Bank - 0" or "Bills
    100%, Bank $360."

This allows John to maintain transparency and make sure people know
where their money's being used, without having to provide receipts to
the entire planet every time he buys a candy bar or pays for a monthly
software subscription. Casting the base as a percentage also saves John
from having to spend two weeks explaining himself every time
expenses/needs increase; 100% is always 100%. At the same time
reporting excess as a dollar amount lets you know how things are going
and gives a chance to talk about current goals beyond just paying
    bills.

Much of the last two months - and especially the last three weeks since
he got out of the hotel - have been spend going through the same
processes he described above, but in his personal life: going through
his few boxes of belongings and throwing out the things that he doesn't
need, sorting clothes, generally cleaning up and organizing and a lot
of similar work that he's been unable to do in previous living
circumstances. John feels very positive about the future, in spite of
still facing some very real challenges in the present, and he looks
forward to stepping things up by several notches in the coming weeks
and months, as always with your support and encouragement!

Mixed Nuts can help. He has lots of money because he's a super dooper
smart high IQ scientist and invested well in the evil capitalist stock market. Plus he's totally down with John's ideas, so write to Nuts I'm
sure he can help fund some of this important work and help keep John off
the street. Nuts would never let that happen, he's too compassionate
and cares too much about other people.

    This is half-witted.

It's self evident. You simply don't understand simplicity. Or complexity.

First, for those intrigued by his ideas, he's restarting his
newsletter. Going forward he'll be sending out a new edition of
"Breaking Through" once a week on Saturdays, and it will basically be
a digest of everything he's done that week in terms of content, plus occasional little notes and observations as well as any news about
upcoming projects or content drops. You can find that at johnhenryus.substack.com.

This lasted for one (1) edition.
