• Landlord towed the jeep.

He shouldn't have done that, JH had already walked away.

The landlord didn't have a legal eviction. He didn't have squat.
He already blew off the back rent JH owed because he knew
if he took John to court John would countersue and run his
ass out of town. Now JH will do it anyway, just without the
courts. Kalamazoo doesn't need another slumlord exploiting
desperate addicts and putrefying neighborhoods for easy
    money.

Dude's been sitting on AC repair for almost two years because
he can't get his insurance fraud story straight and John and his
housemates went without a working refrigerator for nine
months. AND he was taking federal money for the rent while
    failing to maintain the property.

Dude's got a lot to answer for. He's scared of John's former
sex offender housemate... but he's definitely looking in the
wrong direction for what he ought to be worrying about.

John is on the warpath now.

Time to talk to the city council again.

John's spoken directly with the city council there before,
in session, on matters of landlord-tenant fairness (including
pushing for changes to local housing and employment anti-
discrimination regulation to include protection for the
    LGBTQ+ community).

He knows how to handle this. It may be weeks or months
or even years before he gets to it, but when he does, things
will change. Some will think those changes "for the better,"
    some otherwise, objectively they'll likely be of mixed value;
landlords like this tend to be the only types who will rent to
people "like John," meaning everyone in the bottom end of
the economy to include the addicts and convicts and folks
who just aren't quite made to fit into the world they're in,
who maybe have credit problems or self-esteem issues
that got 'em wrapped up in abusive relationships that have
had ugly repercussions on their public functionality (credit,
    criminal record).

THAT is the real problem, and so rather than this being some
bullshit, self-service whining rant to the city council about a
landlord that screwed JH, John thinks perhaps it would be of
more benefit and positive impact to take the time and energy
to put together a comprehensive overview of these abuses of
power and social negligence toward our most vulnerable (and
often, to be frank, our least companionable and socially
acceptable) people, and offer some regulatory and non-
regulatory suggestions that might drive solutions.

First, though, John's gotta have some idea of where he's
gonna be and what he's gonna be doing in two weeks or
a month or a year. Your support ensures he can keep doing
    this.
