Cam Newton abruptly walked out of his short Super Bowl post-game
press conference, leaving the polarizing quarterback open to
even more criticism.
The media's line of questioning wasn't particularly vicious
Sunday, making some wonder why the Carolina quarterback decided
to bolt.
But on second review, the walkoff actually appears to be
prompted by Newton hearing Denver cornerback Chris Harris —
giving a separate interview nearby — discuss how the Broncos
dominated the Panthers and dared the signal-caller to step up
during their 24-10 win.
“Load the box, force y’all to throw the ball,” Harris said at
his presser. “Can you throw the football? That was the gameplan.”
Newton, within ear shot of Harris, then shakes his head, stands
up and exits.
The league MVP didn't say much during his two-to-three minute
press conference at Levi's Stadium, looking despondent and
giving one-word answers.
After his sudden exit, Newton — who's grown accustomed to
celebrating this season — was labeled a sore loser by some.
Newton was held to 18 of 41 passing for 265 yards and just 45
yards on the ground during his rough Sunday. He was sacked seven
times.
