Am looking at getting a new TV and the starting favourite boasts "ten
picture modes". One of interest is "cricket". The mind wanders and wonders
if this mutes the commontater of your choice...

The nothing-to-add L Siva and Ramiz Raja are two I could live not hearing from again. Mark Nicholas is definitely okay, being a raconteur with lots of enjoyable CC anecdotes involving the famous and those that didn't make it.

have played for England despite not being good enough. The only bits
of his commentary I enjoy come when he is pretentiously waffling on
about cricket at the top level (which he never played) and someone who
played a lot of it tells him he's talking bollocks, so he has to shut
up for a bit.
Bring back Stacky and Norm!

We need a couple of commentators in the mold of Alan McGilvray! And
there used to be a couple of great Poms behind the microphone as well.

Dexter? Laker? Tyson? Trueman? From that era, these are the ones I can recall; also, Brian Johnston, although predominantly as a radio comm. Speaking of radio comms, Arlott was good, with Don Mosey and Henry Blofeld in a lower tier.

Peter West?
Neville Cardus?

My own favourite from TMS back in the 1960s and early '70s was Alan
Gibson. Sadly the BBC dropped him after on one occasion he broadcast
while noticeably the worse for wear from alcohol. From the expert
summarisers of that era, I liked Norman Yardley. In contrast, his contemporary Freddie Brown always seemed to be overly critical of the players; though from a very different social class, he was similar to
the slightly later Freddie Trueman in that respect. From the 1970s
through to the 1990s, Trevor Bailey was very good.
