The lie of USenet is dying is rebuff by these statistics
Usenet lives or the internet dies
Unfortunately the suggestion that Usenet is dying is, on the face of it, supported by the above statistics. I'm afraid there are now only a small number of people who will miss it if it goes, and the Internet certainly wopn't die as a result.

You seem to have a brilliant ability to believe that unwelcome (to you
and me both) facts are propaganda. Usenet's death is a slow and
lingering one, but its users are ageing (when did you last see a new
user?), and in ten or twenty years it will inevitably be gone.

Varies a lot by group. "R.s.c" is getting only around one
post every other day; "u.s.c" about 15 per day [and that's without
counting the spam, which Aioe kindly filters out beforehand], from
over 20 current contributors. If "u.s.c" has the usual ratio, that
implies around 200 readers -- not a huge number, but not negligible
for a UK-only group based around a minority interest. "U.p.m" gets
around 30/day from 132 contributors in the past month, though sadly
most of it is spam [easily KF-ed away]. "U.l.m" gets ~100/day from
75 contributors in the past month, and no spam at all as it's [very
weakly] moderated. Certainly most groups getting less than a post
per day would scarcely be missed [apart from specialist groups such
as "u.p.electoral" -- one v useful/interesting (for those interested
in election results!) post/week]. But other groups are thriving.
For comparison, back in the '80s, we used to wonder how we would
cope when the world /total/, over all groups, reached 100/day, our
computers would be clagged [both CPU and disc storage] by all that
traffic, and there would be far too much to read ....

Sad but true. And it's even sadder that *all* the alternatives I've dabbled >with are moderated, some to an absurd degree. Bah!
