• First round of the year!

From Alan@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jan 2 23:05:18 2023
Well... ...it was only 10 holes.

A buddy called me and asked if I'd like to play golf some time after
noon today, and while I'm not normally one for golf at 5°C, golf with my
good friend, Pete, his son, and another friend both Peter and I play
    hockey with..

    ...how could I say know.

I rolled up to UBC golf course with 10 minutes to spare before our 2:10
tee time, and my first drive wasn't terribly encouraging, but it's only
a short par 5, so I managed to at least come away with bogey.

Then I got on a bogey train for the next 3 holes, but I finally made a
few pars in a row (3), and ended with a bogey and a couple of double
bogies. 6 over par for 10 holes when I've not hit a ball in more than 2
    months; I'm pretty satisfied.

I was encouraged by some thoughts about my swing which I learned about
from watching a bunch of good young guys on the GoodGood and related
YouTube channels. I was long driver in the group pretty much every hole,
and I think if the condtions had been summer, I would find that I've
picked upAnd I was amazed by how well I chipped.

What a great way to start the year. I played decently, and enjoyed the
last holiday day before we all go back to work with good friends.

Wow, a golf related post. Thanks for sharing, great way here to kick off the new year!

Two things really stuck out here. First, it was cold, and secondly, you played with little previous practice, and seemed overall you did quite well. I cannot play in the cold at all, and if I don't swing a club every few days, my game degrades quickly.
Little natural skill, my game requires a lot of practice and repetition. You play a lot of sports, probably have a lot of natural athleticism, I do not.

Alan, you might have seen my previous post a few days back, I have had some health issues I have had to deal with. I tell you this not looking for sympathy or attention, it is just therapeutic to talk about it, even if it is with relative strangers.
When you are not working and can do little for yourself, you have nothing but a lot of time on your hands, talk helps pass the time. I look forward to returning to the game hopefully by the spring, Right now, I doubt I could break 200, I am so weak
and deconditioned, and mentally not in the best shape. Anyway, enough about me and my woes.

Glad to see the golf post, and maybe this will be the year you really get back in the game again. Please accept from the bottom of my heart, my wishes that you have a healthy and happy 2023. Have a great day!

What you need is a GOOD massage! Golfing in the cold (I'd love to have 5C!) brings the worst out of your game.

    Let's look at the Alan Baker method of score keeping and math;

    #1 bogey +1
    #2 bogey +2

    #6 par +4

    #9 double bogey +7

That's 9 over par not 6. You can't even post an honest golf score and

I got my arithmetic wrong, Irving.

    I apologize.

How can you get arithmetic wrong for 10 holes....by that much?

Somehow it didn't register to you typing about 5 bogeys and 2 double
bogeys couldn't have added up to +6.
