• If you want to see an urban Canadian shit-hole go to Niagra Falls

From Tom Elam@21:1/5 to All on Sun Aug 28 12:10:54 2022
What happened? When last there about 40 years ago the Canadian side put the U.S to shame. Now? It looks like a cheap and permanent carnival complete with horror shows, $10 Starbuck latte, cotton candy shops and a very noisy multilevel go kart track right
in the middle of the restaurant area. Imagine, outside seating at a $50/plate Italian restaurant with 50 go karts zooming around a track across the street. And behind that? A dinosaur themed putt-putt course with a fake volcano that belches fire every 5
minutes or so! What a crock! The American side is now mostly park area with walking trails. A paradise in comparison.

To be fair, while there also go to Niagra County wine and fruit country just north of this monstrosity. Much nicer, but no view of the falls.

Wow, did you ever hit it on the head. The Canadian side is a joke. A cheap permanent carnival is a good description. The place has become a joke.

But Tom, my wife and I went on a wine tour, it blew us away. An all day excursion, visiting 5 wineries and a gourmet lunch. The Niagara wine region is something very special

    LOL!

Tom, this comes from a guy that can't find work walking dogs. This bozo is not qualified to clean your toilet, let alone criticize you. He has some definite psych issues, we should pity him.

It’s become a worse tourist trap than what it was 40 years ago. Since most foreign visitors are American, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise; it’s largely the
same at other US draws like Vegas, Gatlinburg, etc. Disney too, despite how that corporation tries to keep a lid on it where they can.

The American side is now mostly park area with walking trails.
    A paradise in comparison.

Goat island has as dramatic of a view, but it’s an island and it’s been falling off,
so it’s much less suited for commercial development.

Another is Upper Canada Village, if you’re near Messina:

We might have visited Goat Island but for having to get back into Canada with all the red tape involved. You can get into the U.S. with the enhanced DL!

WTF does the nationality of visitors have to do with anything? The local government controls zoning and building permits. Are you suggesting the local government is corrupted by American money? Why is the American side so different if it's Americans
responsible for the appearance of the Canadian side????

My observation was that there was a wide range of Orientals, Middle Eastern and Caucasians.

    The understatement of the year.

He is an unemployed bitter twit. He was a dog walker, even the dogs saw him for the loser he was. The asshole still lives at home, who would want to marry such a prick. Thank goodness he has no kids, some folks are better off not reproducing. This

Goat Island is the US side .. and mostly "park" as you described.

WTF does the nationality of visitors have to do with anything?

    "Know your customer".

The local government controls zoning and building permits.

    Yup.

Are you suggesting the local government is corrupted by American money?

Not quite. Everyone gets tempted by 'easy money' from tourists. Some more
so than others, which is how you end up with loud go-cart tracks, etc.

Why is the American side so different if it's Americans responsible for the appearance of the Canadian side????

Because the Canadian side has the better (easy) views for tourists. It also had
a reputation of being cheaper, due to currency exchange rates.

My observation was that there was a wide range of Orientals, Middle Eastern and Caucasians.

Less than 10% of tourists to Niagra Falls are from overseas.
