• Netflix Slam 2024: Nadal just won set 1

From Kalevi Kolttonen@21:1/5 to All on Sun Mar 3 21:39:08 2024
Nadal seems to be in a good shape. He just won
the first set against Alcaraz. A single break
of serve sufficed so 6-3 for Nadal.

Now let's see whether Alcaraz can come back.

He could. Alcaraz took the second set 6-4.

This match was played using the rules that
govern ATP level doubles matches, meaning
that the third set was abbreviated. They
played a match tiebreak to decide the winner.

Alcaraz won the tight match, but I am no
longer sure about the numbers. It was
probably 14-12. Alcaraz needed six match
    points to win.

Was it like an exhibition. Numbers sure sound like it.

It was an exhibition and I am sure that an enormous
amount of money was involved. I am disappointed that
we do not know how much the winner got and how much
the loser got. I think it is possible that the prizes
were 10 million USD and 5 million USD, but this
is just a wild guess, nothing more.

The positive thing is that the match looked totally
honest to me. Both players took it seriously, but
there were a number of dubious line calls. Why
did not they use Hawk-Eye Live? That's ridiculous.

But yes, sadly the "show element" of Las Vegas was
there. The fucking expert commentators constantly
spoke during the points which is just *unacceptable*.

What is more, they had live voice recognition
software running and everything that the
commentators said was translated into textual
representation on the bottom of the screen. And
the fucking font used was absolutely huge. What
    a distraction!

Real tennis matches are not circus events like
    the Netflix Slam...

Only saw a few points but commentators are saying there was only 1 legit
point in the whole match, the ripping passing shot dtl Nadal hit to save
mp and get to 9-9 in t/b.

The few points I saw it was clear Carlos was holding back - eg he'd take
a little hop to slow down a fraction rather than zipping across like he
    usually does.

Carlos was holding back you could tell, but Nadal looks good. He really
looked great in Australia too so not sure it means too much. I think he
just wants 1 more run on the clay but can't see him winning any titles.

Maybe so. The commentators suggested that he has
not yet fully recovered from his ankle injury that
    he suffered two weeks ago.

That is ridiculous. It was a good match with many
nice rallies. Nadal seems to be back.
