Jannik is a monstrous talent, a threat on any surface. He is much better than Berdych types. The Sin was so close to beating Alcaraz at the US Open and that was when he had a shit serve. He's a much improved player now. You can see why Carlos talks
highly of him. They are gonna have great matches. Hopefully, Rune can also get in the mix. The results of Alcaraz and Sinner will surely push him further.

Meds had a small opening in the 4th when Sinner's 1st serve percentage became shit, but Jannik is just too good off the ground, powerful and consistent. Meds should be proud of himself. He put up a good fight and is an entertaining character.

73% points won on the second is absurd.

I don't feel you can prove it.

The guy is young and cocky of course he wants to be the best.

I mean would you say that young Djokovic "didn't want to be the best"?

That's the reason he wasn't the best when he was 21 or 22?

It's a learning process and a long path of improvement.

Hasn't Sinner stagnated for a year or two? Would you only attribute that to his "desire"?

Wow! I watched the first two sets live and when I saw that Medvedev won the first two sets, I went to sleep. I figured I'd wake up and see a Medvedev win in straights. I recorded it so I'll have to watch it and see how things progressed.

I'm glad Sinner won too. It's much better for tennis moving forward to have multiple players who are capable of winning slams.

Yes. There's a couple of pretty cool match-ups now in tennis. Djok,
Sinner, Alcatraz, Z, Rune, Mom, B, ... A while back it seemed Alcatraz
had everything in the bag already.

I always called him nothing but a ball basher but he's really come a long way

I had him consigned to the clown bin not too long ago. A clown with
bazookas too big for his own good. I never saw anything of this AO, but
he played like a maniac against Djok at the YEC RR. And took him out of
the bin. I like the AO follow-through. Hope he stays on course.

Before AO I predicted Sinner would win AO and Wimbledon this yr, Carlos
will win FO easily prob without dropping a set. Will look at USO closer
    to the date.

So, what's so special about Sinner?
What I saw in the AO final is a very low error percentage. His shots are extemely safe with a lot of margin and shape. That's where Meds failed. Meds is usually the wall but in the final he dumped way too many of those flat backhands right into the net.

    After he (meds) got tired.

I'd say that Sinner was hitting the ball exceptionally well. You could
even hear it from the sounds of ball hitting.

Me, I've never seen him throw in the towel, even while he was losing
    big matches.
Would you only attribute that to his "desire"?

His desire was never in question to me, as it is with Rune.

Rune, like Sabelenka, can prove sufficient drive. We'll see.

yes this is an interesting point, haven't seen Sinner give up, he's
got nervous and choked/folded but he hasn't given up which is what
Rune's attitude seems to at times, a bit like Safin and Kyrgios?

I haven't seen enough of Rune to be sure, but yep, when talking to my
wife last night about the up-and-coming guys, I mentioned Rune and
    Kyrgios in the same breath.

Rune is much better than Kyrgios, it's not even close. Rune's baseline
game and backhand are world class, tier 1. Nick's bh is tier 6 and
baseline game tier 7. Nick does have a tier 1 serve though.

I am in the same boat here. I was excited about him a couple of years
ago, even posted about it here a few times. But then I started seeing
him lose big matches seemingly meekly and I started to think that he
didn't have a winner's attitude on court. I wouldn't say this win "convinced" me yet, I think he had a lot of chances to lose the match.
But it's definitely a step in the right direction!

It's true Sinner's progress has been relatively slow, but he has been
improving constantly if you look closely. A couple yrs ago he wasn't
happy where he was relative to where he thought he should be so sacked
his entire team and hired a new one. He's quietly motivated and
confident. He's an introvert and very methodical, seemingly has all the
tools to be top 2 or 3 (Alcaraz, Rune) for 10+ yrs. Alcaraz at his best
is a better player, but he won't play his best all the time so Sinner
and Rune should win a few slams, barring any new super talents emerging.
