• Non-calendar Grand Slam?

From *skriptis@21:1/5 to All on Tue Nov 21 10:05:12 2023
At times there was no distinction made between that and the Grand Slam.

(Early 1980s, ITF million dollar bonus for Navratilova's 4 in a row that was considered Grand Slam, if I am right).

The approach was later revoked, Grand Slam was officially recognised by the ITF as the one in a single calendar year, but even the non-calendar Grand Slam remained a huge thing.

    Or it isn't?

Djokovic's wiki entry does not even mention it as such.

...is a Serbian professional tennis player who is currently ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

Djokovic has been ranked No. 1 for a record total of 400 weeks in a record 13 different years, and finished as the year-end No. 1 a record eight times.

Djokovic has won an all-time record 24 Grand Slam men's singles titles, including a record ten Australian Open titles. Overall, he has won 98 singles titles, including a record 71 Big Titles: 24 majors, a record 40 Masters, and a record seven ATP Finals.

Djokovic is the only man in tennis history to be the reigning champion of all four majors at once across three different surfaces. In singles, he is the only man to achieve a triple Career Grand Slam, and the only player to complete a career Golden
Masters, a feat he has achieved twice.

So instead of "non-calendar Grand Slam" we're at "champion at all majors at once".

I have issues with non-calendar Grand Slam and the fact it be achieved but then it can also disappear, at least according to the rules.

E.g. Budge did it 1937 Wim - 1938 French, but since he extended streak to two more slams and did the Grand Slam in 1938, his non-calendar Grand Slam is delisted, or undone? It's never mentioned that he did.

How can you lose your achievement?

It's all kinda bizzare and in some ways it's better to use this newly phrase "champion of all 3 majors at once".

At least that one is never revoked.

    Of all 4 majors, obviously.
