Really solid match against WTA #24 from Leylah. Leylah also beat
    yesterday Sorribes Tormo 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (9-7)!
Next up Italy & Trevisan at SF.

This is first time since 1988 that Canada has gotten into semis.

The other team Canada singles player is quite surprisingly good too -
Marina Stakusic #258, aged 18. Powerful nice looking game. Beat Frech
today who is WTA #63. IF she plays consistently as well as today she
should rise the rankings like a rocket next year.

Way to go, Leylah. I just saw a little bit of the Sorribes Tormo match. Looked like she was out of it, so an impressive comeback.

Anybody watched the WTA finals? Swiatek CRUSHING everyone in her path... "The real #1"...

Yep, I enjoyed watching her crush Coco, Sabalenka, and Pegula in succession. It nicely bookends a year that started with Swiatek in tears after losing to Pegula at United Cup.

Swiatek plays with such passion and commitment to excellence compared with all the whiners, head cases, and drama queens on tour. Weird how Court 1 dislikes her so vehemently.

There was a hilarious moment when Swiatek was warming up with Coco and the commentators (Davenport and Rubin) were all starry-eyed over Coco, saying hopefully this will be THE rivalry of the next 10 years....that maybe Swiatek, with her speed and
athleticism, would be the one who could "challenge Coco."

I mean, WTF? She's got ONE slam, and they're acting like she's already heir apparent to Serena, an unstoppable force dwarfing everyone else's talent. All the funnier that Iga dusted her so easily. She's something like 9-1 against Coco and it's the
    rivalry of the century. FFS.

She was like out of it in both sets against Tormo but gave a good fight.
Today she competed close to perfection, no lapses at all. Very nice to see.

Cause she looks like a cleaning lady?
But the appearance is half-deceiving, she's really a clock-cleaning lady.

    :)))

Kinda makes the beatdowns more enjoyable though. Nothing like hype
filled commentators getting a touch of reality.

I mean, WTF? She's got ONE slam, and they're acting like she's already heir apparent to Serena, an unstoppable force dwarfing everyone else's talent. All the funnier that Iga dusted her so easily. She's something like 9-1 against Coco and

Well she did imo look a bit like one of the Williamses at USO. But yes,
still a first slam win behind. It may often get hard for a while after
that. Also, maybe she was playing better than usual.

I need to find long highlights on Swiatek's matches...

    ...Aagainst Pegula 6-3.

    ...Never played against Jabeur. Huh.

It says here she's 5-2 vs. Jabeur

    https://www.wtatennis.com/head-to-head/326408/316847

    ...Vondrousova 3-0

    ...Muchova 2-1

...Sakkari 2-3, but Swiatek won the last 2. Sakkari won last time two
    years ago.

Yeah, Swiatek 2.0 has handled Sakkari easily. They even featured the Indian Wells match in "Break Point."

    ...Kreizi 2-2

    Never lost a slam final (4) = 100%
    Lost twice WTA 100 final (8) = 75%

    All WTA finals: 17 titles, 4 runner-ups = 81%

    This, I think, is remarkable.

    Serena: 73 titles, 25 runner-ups = 74%
    Steffi: 107 titles, 31 runner-ups = 78%
Leylah will be playing Vondrousova soon, after Kreizi has finished
crushing Stakusic, in about half an hour I guess.

Loolah won the first, getting crushed in second!

    I'm not surprised.

Leylah has great returns and is impenetrable at cross-court rallies. Her
lefty serve to ad court is great for the doubles, Siniakova hardly won a
    point against it.
Dabrowski is a doubles specialist, good at the net and unbelievable on lobs. Their weaknesses are Dabrowski's returns & groundies, Leylah's net game,
lobs & smashes although she has recently improved on all of them. Nailed
almost all lobs on this match. Made a couple crucial stop volleys etc.
Didn't flunk a smash although didn't kill them either. Dabrowski
compensates for her lack of groundies with smart unexpected play (lobs, sneaking to the net).

    Krejcikova's & Siniakova's weaknesses are Siniakova's head... and at
least in this match some inconsistency & inability to win against
Leylah's ad serve or outrally/poach her.

Anyway it was close. Czechs felt the pressure. Czechmate.

Tickets were pricey, some front row Rod Laver and Margaret Court Arenas
so will be great view close to the action. That's 1 of the reasons I
upgraded my phone, don't want anxiety about running out of space etc.
Staying in a nice double size room at hotel a short walk from the tennis
    with nice pool/gym and city views;

    https://www.adinahotels.com/en/apartments/melbourne-southbank/?utm_source=googleplaces&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=googleplaces&utm_content=adina-melbourne-southbank

Not cheap, but you only live once and as you get older you want to
    maximize your experience. I don't go to concerts/sports if I can't see
the player faces. I remember going to concerts and just looking at
screens far into the distance - waste of time.

There's a few big players I haven't seen live yet so hope to tick them
off eg Alcaraz, Sinner, Iga, Rune etc
