    Well, there's no question Gilbert has helped her. She had stalled in her progress with her father as coach. Apparently, it was her father who suggested bringing on Gilbert as he told her he couldn't do any more for her and her game.

    The fawning over Gauff by US commentators is nauseating. The minute she came upon the scene, they were saying she'd be the next Venus/Serena. They're doing the same with Alcaraz by predicting he'll surpass the Big Three's records. It's too much pressure
    and unrealistic. I think the Big Three were aberrations. Let's see if Gauff and Alcaraz can even be as great as say Hingis/McEnroe for starters.

    Also, have to say that she defended great against Sabalenka. Really
    tough to play against Saba, bitch hits the ball hard. If Sabalenka can't
    hit through her... who can? Gauff was a bit overwhelmed at first set but
    fought hard and improved her game.

    And, Gauff did beat Swiatek in Cincinnati final and was the best at US
    series this year. Crushed Bencic & Sakkari at Washington. So hardly a
    fluke win.

    I didn't watch the speeches, so don't know the context. If she's using criticism for motivation, well done. But it sounds babyish to say publicly IMO.

    Once Sabalenka blew a couple of easy putaways, Gauff realized that she
    did not need to trade power shots with Sabalenka--which Sabalenka won
    more often than not. I mean literally, you could see the racquet being deflected in Gauff's hand on some of those strokes. Once Gauff saw that
    she could run down 80-90% of Sabalenka's power shots and get them into
    play deep, she knew she could win by making Sabelenka play a point
    longer than Sabelenka thought it should be. And when this happens,
    Sabalenka eventually gets the yips. Always has.
