• Ben Shelton?

From Court_1@21:1/5 to All on Tue Sep 5 19:16:09 2023
Forget all of this monotonous talk about which Big Three member is the greatest. What's the word on this kid from the US, Ben Shelton?

Does he have what it takes to do big things? He has a huge serve and looks like he has a fairly complete game. He seems a lot more muscular than I remember him looking a few short months ago! 🤔

We need some great players from the US. It's been too long.

I need to see more game than 150mph serves to make my mind, but we have made our minds in past on many youngsters when they first came like tsi, shapo, sinners, dimi, etc.

I hope you enjoyed Fritts today :)

Shelton is giving "Big 'Foe" all he can handle right now. Up two sets to one. If he wins, he's forgiven for looking goofy. ;)

Yes. Tsitsipas, Shapo, Sinner, Dimitrov--all disappointments relative to our lofty expectations. You just never know for sure how it's going to work out.

I hope you enjoyed Fritts today :)

I wasn't able to watch the cutie Fritz-Gumby match. I didn't record it either. No great loss. Gumby
vanquished Fritz. Fritz is now officially Gumby's pet poodle. 🙄

Shelton wins and rightly so! he seems to be in super form.

Huge nuclear game and no fear - kinda like Ostapenko on steroids : )

I guess no reason he can't win Wimbledon if Carlos/Novak falter for any
reason. He seems to have more firepower overall than other big hitters
like Berretini and Kyrgios who are more 1 dimensional and have crap
backhands. I can't see him beating Novak here though. As big as his
serve is he still found a way to get broken 3 times in 1 set v Tiafoe,
who is nowhere near the returner Novak is.

He has more power from more parts of his game than Kyrgios and
Berretinni, and they made Wimbledon finals.

He will be taken apart by any decent player (Not Tiafoe). Tsitsipas picked him apart recently. And this is coming from me, a BIG Shelton fan. Shelton's game is still raw. He gets by with energy and power.

    He could be another Shapo.

His BH looks like a placeholder, not a weapon. THat's where his
opponents should go as much as possible.

Of course, Tiafoe seemed not to notice this, or ignored it...

    Niche stat:

Shelton made the all-time 2nd fastest 2nd serve in SF (143mph)

    Opelka has the record (144mph).
