7-0 h2h though, 6 of them in straight sets. Fritz would need to win 3
sets v Novak in a slam - seems almost impossible. Novak would have to
be seriously limping around to make a match of this.

Sadly, yes. I fear he will devour Fritz again. I have to run out to do a couple of errands this morning. It may be over before I get back.

Also glad Shelton won, should be something slightly different for Novak.
Tiafoe would have lost to Novak same as Fritz, Shelton has a bit of an unknown factor about him. He has huge power and courage, but it's a
worry he lost his serve 3 times in set 3. If Tiafoe can break him 3
times in 1 set Novak will kill him. I see Novak winning in 4 sets most
likely outcome. Carlos is the only hope, and he will have to have his
    A+ game firing.

I watched the entire Shelton/Tiafoe match. Tiafoe basically checked out
so early that I cannot recall when, exactly. Might have been the
tie-breaker, but in honesty, with that many breaks against Shelton it
should never have gone to the tie-breaker.

At this moment there is something wrong with Shelton's game. It's more
than simply an over-application of youthful power. It is maybe his BH.
    I'll have to consider.

Tiafoe seems like a lost cause. I had high hopes for the boy for a
    couple of years, but...

I don't have issues admitting when I was wrong - eg was wrong many times
re Novak, happy to admit it when I get the evidence. I get little
credit here for my spot on analysis - eg I was the only one to tip Coco
to beat Sabalenka in USO final before the tournament started.

It's more that they politicize all aspects of identity--including gender, sexual orientation, and race above all. Starting with Virginia's "black codes" in the colonial era, a person was classified as black if they were known to have any black ancestry
at all. Someone like Shelton has a black parent and a white parent, but he's labeled as simply "a Black man" by the media, which serves only to perpetuate racial division. Has anyone bothered asking Shelton how he thinks of himself? The probable answer
    is "a man."

Yeah. Thought about this myself yesterday... why not white man.

Now a racist explanation I come up with is that even a sliver of black
blood is enough to spoil your white heritage. That might actually even
be the correct explanation... as this sort of race classification comes
from the past when people were very racist.

One would assume there was quite a lot mixing as US blacks are not very
    black compared to African blacks.

Usually stayed slaves. Sometimes they got more privileges, but no way the "masters" saw these kids as anywhere near equal to their fully white children. Frederick Douglass said his own father was white. It didn't do him a bit of good. Some of these guys
kept the kids out of sight. Others didn't care how many people knew about it.

Yes, there was a lot of mixing. If DNA analysis had been available circa 1900, not many black Americans would have 100% African blood even then.

As best I can tell, TT, this is where the American idea of "passing"
    comes from.

So let's suppose a situation where a property owner white man, with land
and slaves to work it--but not necessary a wealthy man, just relatively well-to-do--is unmarried (no kids) and he has a sexual hankering for one
of his female black slaves. Let's say that she, herself, is a 1/2 black,
is relatively light complexioned. She bears a son and he is 1/4 black
and is like Shelton--hard to say for sure.

The mother, realizing that her child has a much better future if
accepted as white, may encourage him to try to pass as white. The father
might even try to help, if he is so motivated. In rare cases, he might
    leave property to the son.

Yes, there are very many "black" people here is the US who don't look
    very African.

    Consider James Blake.
