Has 600 points, finalist, to defend in Cincy. I don't know how much a
R16 loss will make up for it, but it's possible he could drop 3 places
    in the wankings.

Remember this moment tennis fans. If Tsitsipas doesn’t turn things around, which looks quite possible, this is the last time ever a single hander was in the top 5.

Retrospectively now it seem so distant that during the 2nd half of 2022 Tsitsi two times held the keys for #1 spot - failing big time both times (USO and YEC).

    yes but it's not cos he's a single-hander.

Maybe not, but his backhand is certainly a weakness. Still his main problem is his refusal to get a proper coach. I still follow him though, because there are *no* other single handers about that are capable of achieving anything and maybe there never
    will be again…

Dominic Thiem has achieved something. For example, he
has beaten Nadal on clay more than once. What is more,
he won the US Open a while back. It was a great match
and Thiem was the first player ever to win the US
Open final coming back from 2-0 sets down.

But it is true that his comeback has been, well, a big
disaster to put it bluntly. When he returned to the
ATP Tour, I guess he lost something like 14-15 matches
straight, and it has not been easy after that either.

His ranking is now 83. He recently reached the final
in a clay-court ATP250 event in Austria, but lost
clearly to the small Argentinian guy... Not Diego
Schwartzmann... I had to use Google: Sebastian Baez.

    That could well be.

When he was hot, he made a lot of money so he should
be able to get the best possible coaching now, but it
    certainly has not helped much.

One Finnish tennis commentator said that Thiem is
"just a shadow of what he used to be". This commentator
is usually pretty cautious about criticizing players, but
I suppose he felt he had to be honest about Thiem's

I watched him  a lot when he was in the top 10. I enjoyed his style of
playing but had the distinct impression that he was playing at the
ragged edge of his ability. By this I mean that he had to be at 95+% all
the time, no margin for off days.

This may not be true, but maybe he was right at the redline all the
time. If so, now when he is off, he is no longer able to make the grade
to top 10. This is also true of Rublev, who is always at 95+% to be
where he is at now. He's just not as good as Thiem was.

That analysis is probably correct. And when he was young and new, all
he could do was hit all his shots as hard as he could. Later on the
coaching team added a bit more variety to his game, including
    occasionally hitting slice backhands.

This may not be true, but maybe he was right at the redline all the

    That could well be so.

Sinner is also a hard hitter and one Finnish tennis commentator
criticized him for "having only one game style", i.e. hitting
as hard as you can all the time. But now Sinner has also adopted
some slice backhands into his arsenal.

When he won Toronta ATP1000 a week ago, he also used forehand
dropshots, just like Alcaraz does. When you have a big forehand,
it is a great idea to hit dropshots once in a while.
