I agree with you, it's a continuous fixture and you can not say from this point is good but before this point is bad.
What if he touched closer to the line between what is considered single and double.
But if the rules are well defined then I guess it's okay although I am curious what they will do if a player touched very close to the borders.
Also, having this net extension stops players from hitting around the post shots.
