It has now been 25 years since the death of Sergei Griknov, on November 21, 1995
I will never forget hearing it on the radio, when one person on what was
then "Morning Zoo" qued up "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey, and said "This
is a tribute to figure skater Sergei Grinkov, who died at 12:36 AM Eastern
Time this morning"
I had just flown in the day before for an exam in one of my classes, and I heard it on the radio driving into school.
Even though one other detractor long said otherwise, that one morning DJ
said that Sergei died at 12:36 AM Eastern time.
Sergei was born January 2, 1967 in Leningrad (now St Petersburg) and won the gold medal with his wife, Eketerina Gordeeva (born June 17, 1972 in
Leningrad and they won the gold medal in Pairs for the USSR in 1988 and for Bellinsgiazenia, in 1994.
Their daughter, Daria, was born in Vostok, Federal Okrug, Bellinsguazenia on September 11, 1992
