Will Kofi Kingston be the WWE Champion when SmackDown Live Moves to FOX?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 10:43 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tomclark/will-kofi-kingston-wwe-champion-smackdown-live-moves-fox/

Kofi Kingston is in the midst of a three month run as WWE champion. The New
Day founder and longtime fan favorite has been riding high as the top titleholder on SmackDown Live and he’s done so with a majority of support from the WWE faithful.

Kingston is indeed the popular choice to wear the championship, just as he
was the popular choice to win the belt from Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania
    35. Fans rallied behind Kofi because they believed in him and because they
knew that he deserved a shot at the top. But even as the clock continues to tick on his title reign, some fans are beginning to wonder if Kofi will
still be the WWE champion after October 4th.

October 4th is the night when SmackDown Live debuts on the FOX Network. WWE announced the move in June of 2018 and since that time, fans have waited to
see how the company will choose to handle the blue brand moving forward.
Thus far, it’s been business as usual on SmackDown Live. But all of that could change at any moment.

Watch Kofi Kingston confront Samoa Joe on SmackDown Live!

That’s due to SmackDown Live’s new Executive Director, Eric Bischoff. Bischoff’s WWE return was recently announced and that announcement came on the same day that Paul Heyman was named the Executive Director of Monday
Night Raw. It definitely appears that Vince McMahon is ready to shake
things up in his company and the best way to do that is by making changes
to creative, which is exactly what he’s done.

But how far will those changes go? Fans have already gotten their first
glimpse of Heyman’s Raw. But Bischoff’s SmackDown is still something of a mystery. The former WCW President has not officially started work on the
blue brand, but that moment is coming soon. So when it happens, will the
entire program change? More importantly, will the WWE championship change hands?

It’s perhaps not what many fans want to see. Kofi is indeed a deserving Superstar and it’s obvious that he’s risen to the occasion as WWE champion. Kingston may be a fun-loving jester most of the time, but when it’s time to do some work in the ring, he definitely shows up to show off. But while
it’s clear that Kofi has a loyal fan following that believes in him, the question of how much WWE believes in him is still being asked.

Watch Kofi vs. Dolph Ziggler on SmackDown Live!

Has Kofi Kingston’s stock risen to the point that WWE wants him as the top titleholder on SmackDown Live in October? Kingston is rolling along as
champion and it doesn’t seem that anyone is really being positioned to beat him for the title right now. But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

Samoa Joe will get his opportunity at Kingston when the two men lock up at Extreme Rules on Sunday, July 14. Joe is a great choice to wear the gold
and if anyone can convincingly carry the championship, it’s him. Joe is a legitimate tough guy, a monster athlete that looks more like an MMA fighter than a pro wrestler. This image has always benefited him in the business
and the same is perhaps true of his new home on FOX.

The FOX Network reportedly wants competitive, sports-based programming from WWE. While this may be a bit impossible to critics, especially considering
the company’s penchant for comedy, it’s an understandable desire. FOX wants to make an impact with SmackDown and legitimize it as much as possible for
    the mainstream audience.

Much of that audience perhaps does not follow WWE, or pro wrestling, for
that matter. So it’s possible that WWE will accommodate FOX and deliver a credible mainstream athlete as the top champion. Is Kofi Kingston that
athlete? But then again, is Samoa Joe that athlete? What if the man that
will ultimately take the WWE Championship isn’t even a member of the SmackDown Live roster?

Watch Kofi come face to face with Brock on Raw!

This is the point when many WWE fans begin shaking their heads, because
they know what’s coming. The sense of dread surrounding the potential next WWE champion is very real and it’s only getting more intense as the days go by. His importance to the company and more specifically to Vince McMahon, cannot be overstated. So is Brock Lesnar the man to take Kofi Kingston down
    for the WWE title?

It’s the most logical move for the company and for the FOX Network as well. Featuring Brock Lesnar, the former UFC champion, at the center of the new SmackDown Live, seems to be the perfect situation for everyone involved.
That does not necessarily include the fans however, who probably don’t want to see The Beast Incarnate with a championship again. But maybe the bigger issue here is how Kofi Kingston fits into this scenario.

If Kingston goes down to Lesnar, what happens next? Does Kofi simply return
to his usual hijinks with The New Day? Or does Kingston find himself
forever changed by having held the WWE Championship, deciding that he
cannot rest until he holds it again? Is there an outcome that follows a
newly crowned Lesnar which also includes Kofi Kingston as a main event
    player?

The fact is that despite how much popularity he has and how much fans love
him, Kofi Kingston is a team player. That means he will do whatever WWE
asks of him and he will do it to the best of his ability. Fans believe in
him and they want to see him do well, but Kofi will do what’s best for business. Maybe that means Kofi will continue on as WWE champion. But maybe
it means that WWE will make the switch to Brock Lesnar. The only things fan
can do now is what to see what happens next.

Back To The Future? A Top Wrestling Industry Name Says WWE Is Moving Away
    From The PG Era.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:33 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/back-future-top-wrestling-industry-name-says-wwe-ending-pg-era/

Now that would be a change. Over the last several years, WWE has been
running their product as a PG rated company. This has been a severe issue
for a lot of fans, who would rather have things going back to the date of
the Attitude Era, or at least something more intense than what we have been getting. Believe it or not, a change might be coming in the near future.

A fan recently asked Dave Meltzer if some of the recent events on Monday
Night Raw and SmackDown Live, including the intensity of the show, more swearing, and Kofi Kingston flipping off Samoa Joe, suggests the promotion
is moving away from the PG Era. Meltzer replied with a simple “yes”, though he did not suggest anything other than that. There is no word on if this change will either be permanent or move further than it has currently gone.

    Yes https://t.co/y3t1khswsE

    - Dave Meltzer (@davemeltzerWON) July 3, 2019

One of these things was rather surprising. Check out Kingston’s different actions on SmackDown Live:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure I believe this. Having the company be PG is
something that has opened so many doors for WWE and switching things back
to the previous version is a move that could cause them a lot of sponsor
money. Is that the best idea in the world with everything else that they receive for being under the PG style? That could be a lot more trouble
    than it is worth.

Do you want to see such a change? Will WWE go through with it? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Change Is In The Air. Which Parts Of Monday Night Raw Were Paul Heymans
    Doing?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:29 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/change-air-parts-monday-night-raw-paul-heymans/

You can feel it. Last month, Paul Heyman was announced as the new
Executive Director of Monday Night Raw. This news had fans more interested
in the show than they had been in quite a long time as Heyman’s history of running promotions has been well documented over the years. This week saw
the first show after the announcement and while Heyman was not in full
control, some of his ideas did come through.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Heyman was not in charge of Monday Night Raw this week but several of his ideas were used on the show. These ideas includes the opening segment with Braun Strowman tackling Bobby Lashley through part of the set and the ensuing explosion, Corey Graves swearing on commentary, as well as the segment between Mike and Maria
Kanellis where Maria humiliated Mike. Heyman is said to be taking full
control of the show later this month.

It was a bad night for Mike. Check out what Heyman put him through:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: My goodness what is it going to be like when Heyman does run everything? This week’s Monday Night Raw was not the best show in the
world but it was certainly more interesting than what they have been
presenting as of late. I’m not sure how well this new system is going to work, but it almost certainly has to be better than what we have been
    sitting through in recent weeks.

Did you like this week’s show? How much better can Heyman make things?

Hang On A Second. Update On Eric Bischoffs Current Status On SmackDown
    Live.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:09 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/hang-second-update-eric-bischoffs-current-status-smackdown-live/

The times they aren’t yet changing. One of the biggest stories of the year so far has been the changes taking place on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. Last week, news broke that Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff would be
taking over the two shows. Those changes have not taken place quite yet,
and as it turns out, one of them wasn’t even close to starting yet.

According to John Pollock of Postwrestling.com, Bischoff was not present at this week’s SmackDown Live in San Antonio, Texas. While it is not entirely clear when Bischoff will be starting in his new position, it is thought to
not be until after Extreme Rules on July 13 at the earliest. Heyman was present at this week’s Monday Night Raw but was not fully in charge of the show yet.

Bischoff’s previous time in charge did not go well. Check out the end of
    his first era in WWE:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s quite the relief as this week’s SmackDown Live was not the most thrilling show in the world. If that is the best that Bischoff could
have done, the show would have been in more trouble than he could have
solved. Thankfully he seems to be taking his time to set things up, which should be better for the fans as things move forward. It’s not like the shows can get much worse than they have been as of late.

(VIDEO): Its Familiar In A Way. John Cena Changes Look And Makes Speech In Mandarin.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:05 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-familiar-way-john-cena-changes-look-makes-speech-mandarin/

That’s more like it. John Cena is one of the most well known and
successful wrestlers of all time. He has won more titles than almost
anyone else in history and a lot of that has come with a lot of things
staying the same. Cena has moved on to Hollywood though, meaning he will
be appearing in a bunch of different roles. This includes a change in
    look, which has happened again.

WWE has posted a video to their Twitter account showing Cena having gotten
his long hair cut, reverting back to his more familiar look. Cena’s hair
had been longer for several months due to a movie role with various fans
not being pleased with the different look. In the same video, Cena speaks
in Mandarin, which has been an occasional trademark of his over the years.

The new look works. Check out Cena’s change and awesome linguistics:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Cena is one of the more iconic wrestlers of this generation and changing back to the old look is the right move for him. He is someone who
is going to be in a variety of television and film appearances so sticking
with the look that works best for him makes perfect sense. Hopefully he doesn’t go with the long hair again as the look really didn’t work for him.

What did you think of Cena’s longer hair? How big of a Hollywood star can
he become? Let us know in the comments below.

So Long. Former Champion Leaving WWE Later This Month.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:03 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/long-former-champion-leaving-wwe-later-month/

One more off the books. The WWE roster is rather large to say the least
(some would say that it is far too big) and that means that things are
going to be changing fairly quickly. Wrestlers are going to be coming and going with one after another trying their best to see what they can do on
the main stage. However, one long time name will not be sticking around
    much longer.

According to PWInsider.com by way of Cagesideseats.com, Rhyno will be
leaving the company when his deal expires on July 17. Rhyno has been said
to want to leave the company for a long time now, mainly due to not being allowed to wrestle enough to his liking. His current WWE run began in
2015. At the moment, there is no word on where Rhyno will be heading once
    he leaves WWE.

Rhyno has a lot of history to his name. Check out one of his biggest
    moments:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Can you blame Rhyno for wanting to leave? He is a supporting
player on his best day lately and if he can be happier and make some good
money elsewhere, good for him. It’s not like this is a major loss for WWE and Rhyno seems to want out, so hopefully everyone parts on positive
terms. Either way, it’s probably the right move for both and it seems like it can work well.

Where do you see Rhyno winding up? Who could use him most? Let us know in
    the comments below.

Out Of Nowhere. Current WWE Superstar Undergoes Surprise Surgery, Already Back?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:00 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/nowhere-current-wwe-superstar-undergoes-surprise-surgery-already-back/

Surprise ouch. There are various different kinds of injuries in
wrestling. Some are much more gruesome and you can see them as they
happen. Others are more of a surprise that build up over time and you know
are coming one day but can’t figure out exactly when. Then there are
others where you have no idea that anything is wrong until you hear about fixing them. The latter is the case today.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ali underwent some
undisclosed surgery on June 28 in Birmingham, Alabama. At the moment,
there are very few details known about the injury, including what kind of injury Ali had or when he will be back in the ring. However, the surgery
does not seem to be too severe as Ali was shown in a vignette this week on SmackDown Live and wrestled the dark match before the show.

Ali seems fine for the most part. Check out what happened with him before Tuesday’s SmackDown Live:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This doesn’t seem to be the worst thing in the world, but this is two injuries that Ali has had this year alone. He hasn’t been on the main roster all that long and he’s racking up the time on the injured like.
That being said, if he is already back in the ring, this might not be
something that really means much in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully
Ali gets back on TV soon because his vignettes have been great.

Have you liked Ali’s recent vignettes? What will his next feud be? Let us know in the comments below.

How Bad Was It? Medical Update On Braun Strowman And Bobby Lashley.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:43 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/bad-medical-update-braun-strowman-bobby-lashley/

That’s a relief. Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley blew up part of the show’s set and caused quite a moment on
the show. The two of them were taken out in ambulances and the two of them seem likely to be on the shelf for a good while. WWE has already posted a medical update on the two of them and now we have a less official version.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, both Strowman and Lashley
are completely fine after the crash on Monday Night Raw. On Tuesday’s SmackDown Live, Lashley was said to have left the hospital and called out Strowman with a promo, promising revenge for what happened. Strowman was listed as being out of action with a ruptured spleen and a separated pelvis.

What’s causing all this? Check out the big angle from Monday Night Raw: [This post contains video, click to play]

And Lashley is fine. Check out Lashley’s response to Strowman from
    SmackDown Live:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is far from a surprise given how the segment was shot, but at least the two of them are fine. The two of them are likely to wrestle
again after the big moment, but I’m not sure how much I want to see them again. Strowman has already defeated Lashley and the feud is just
continuing anyway. Why should I believe it is done after their next match against each other?

What did you think of the segment? What do you expect from their next
match? Let us know in the comments below.

(WATCH): Challenge Accepted? Another WWE Team Wants To Face Seth Rollins
    And Becky Lynch.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:41 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-challenge-accepted-another-wwe-team-wants-face-seth-rollins-becky-lynch/

That could go somewhere. One of the biggest stories of the last recent
weeks has been the real life relationship between Becky Lynch and Seth
Rollins making it to television. The two of them are the top champions on Monday Night Raw and they will be teaming together to face off against
Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans at Extreme Rules. That might not be the only match they have together.

Andrade and Zelina Vega recently posted a video to Twitter, calling out
Rollins and Lynch for a match at some point in the future. Rollins
responded by saying he’s in and Lynch responded with a short video of Rollins, suggesting that she is in as well. At the moment, there is no
word on any potential match actually taking place, though it is a
    possibility.

They have a lot to say. Check out the initial challenge:
[This post contains video, click to play]

    pic.twitter.com/3NeSpLwCIj

    - The Man (@BeckyLynchWWE) July 3, 2019

Opinion: I could go for something like this and that’s the point of such an exchange. The two teams could have some good chemistry together, though
I’m not sure how much of a threat Vega is going to be to Lynch. Andrade could use a rub from Rollins as well, as he has all the potential in the
world and needs a big win at some point. Let this headline a Monday Night
Raw somewhere soon and everything will be fine.

    205 Live Results - July 2, 2019

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 09:02 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/205-live-results-july-2-2019/

    205 Live

    Date: July 2, 2019

Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas

Commentators: Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness, Aiden English

We have a new #1 contender with Tony Nese earning the right to face Drew
Gulak for the title at Extreme Rules. That could make for an entertaining match, but what isn’t around here? 205 Live has turned into one of the best shows WWE puts out every week and it’s a shame that fewer people don’t see it. Let’s get to it.

We open in the back where Nese is giving Jack Gallagher and Oney Lorcan a
pep talk before tonight’s six man tag. Gallagher is ready to team with Nese and the serious Lorcan wants to give Ariya Daivari some stitches.

    Opening sequence.
Lucha House Party vs. Singh Brothers

Tornado tag with Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado for the House Party. It’s a dance/pose off to start before the House Party punch them out to the floor.
The Singhs get chopped a lot until it’s Metalik kicking away at Sunil back inside. Dorado comes back in and throws Metalik onto Sunil for two as Sumir comes back in for a save. That’s fine with Dorado, who hits a springboard moonsault for two of his own.

Something like a reverse hart Attack gets two on Sumir but Sunil crotches Dorado to break up the rope walk elbow. A double suplex gets two and a spinwheel kick sets up some hip swiveling. Some kicks keep Metalik down
and, of course, that means it’s time for dancing. A top rope Demolition Decapitator (Nigel: “BUENOS NOCHES!!!”) gets two as Dorado seems to have fallen into a hole somewhere.

As Metalik gets sent outside, Dorado FINALLY comes back in to break up some more hip swiveling. A high crossbody gets two with Sunil making a save of
his own. The Golden Rewind puts Sumir down but the luchadors get double superkicked out of the air. Sunil brings in the Boscar trophy, which is
taken away by Kalisto. The Metalik Driver sets up the rope walk DDT/a
shooting star press for the stereo pins at 10:52.

Result: Lucha House Party b. Singh Brothers Rope walk DDT/shooting star
    press (10:52)

With the jumping and the dancing:

Mike Kanellis doesn’t want to talk about his loss on Raw. He and Maria aren’t speaking at the moment because last night should have been the greatest moment of his life but she called him a disappointment. Mike is disappointed, but in Drake Maverick. It’s all his fault and Drake is
sitting on a beach with his wife when Mike should be celebrating great news with the Cruiserweight Title. Maverick is going to pay.
    Jack Gallagher/Oney Lorcan/Tony Nese vs. Ariya Daivari/Drew Gulak/Mike
    Kanellis

Nese and Gulak start things off but Mike is brought in with no contact. Gallagher comes in as well and they finally lock up over a minute in. Mike works on the arm and shoulders Gallagher down, only to have Gallagher tie himself in a ball on the mat. With that perplexing Mike, it’s off to Lorcan for some hard chops in the corner. Mike wants more chops and hits a clothesline, allowing the tag to Daivari. Some right hands set up a double suplex to give Gulak two as the villains start taking their turns.

Lorcan finally gets away and makes the tag to Nese so the pace can pick up. Nese’s springboard moonsault is broken up with a shove onto Lorcan,
Gallagher and Daivari so the villains can take over again. Back in and
Gulak grabs an armbar on Nese and it’s off to Daivari to pummel Nese some more. Nese small packages Kanellis for two, earning himself a hard
clothesline to take him right back down.

A running corner clothesline sets up a superkick into an assisted
Iconoclasm for two on Nese, which FINALLY draws in Gallagher to break up
the triple team. With Gallagher on the apron again, Nese gets in a sitout powerslam and the hot tag brings in Lorcan. The running Blockbuster gets
two on Daivari and Gallagher’s falling headbutt gets the same. Lorcan hits the big flip dive onto everyone but Daivari dives onto Lorcan plus everyone.

Nese follows suit and of course it’s Gallagher busting out the umbrella for the Mary Poppins Drop. Back in and a top rope headbutt gives Gallagher two
on Daivari. Lorcan and Daivari fight to the back, leaving Gallagher to
headbutt Gulak. Nese misses the 450 and Kanellis comes in for the two count (Nigel: “FOR THE LOVE OF MARIA!!!”). Nese is right back up with the sunset driver for the pin at 18:11.

    Result: Jack Gallagher/Tony Nese/Oney Lorcan b. Drew Gulak/Mike
Kanellis/Ariya Daivari Sunset driver to Kanellis (18:11)

The fighting was strong with this one:

Post match Gulak lays out Nese as Lorcan and Daivari are fighting on the
ramp. The three fights go over the announcers’ table and Kanellis is sent into the steps to end the show with the violence rolling.
