• [WR] KBs Review: AAW Take No Prisoners 2019: Indy Shows Can Work (2/3)

From WrestlingRumors.net@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jun 23 16:29:02 2019
    [continued from previous message]

the momentum the company received from it. As it turns out, we did not
even get to see all of the benefits that came from the show, though AEW is letting us know a few more things.

AEW has released footage of Mike Tyson backstage at Double Or Nothing.
Tyson met with a Japanese wrestling host named Masa, who had met Tyson
years before and was having a reunion of sorts. Tyson is a member of the
WWE Hall of Fame, being inducted in 2012. There is no word on Tyson
appearing for AEW or doing anything with them and he seems to have been backstage as a fan.

That’s not bad for a celebrity fan. Check out Tyson backstage at the show: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: It doesn’t mean much, but just having a celebrity like Tyson
around might get a small bit of attention for the company. AEW is still
brand new at this point and having someone around to get some eyes on the product, even in a short video like this, is a good thing. It’s not like
it hurts and it gives AEW a little something to brag about, which can only
    help them.

What did you think of Double Or Nothing? How will the followup show go?

When Legends Rise? Former WWE Champion Hints At Coming After The 24/7
    Title.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2019 08:29 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/legends-rise-former-wwe-champion-hints-coming-24-7-title/

An old challenger approaches? The 24/7 Title has become one of the most
talked about titles in WWE today. With R-Truth carrying the concept on his back, the title has gone from a very poorly received debut to a rather entertaining idea which gets a lot of time on almost every show. It has
gone so well that various legends have commented on it, with one wanting a taste of gold himself.

Former WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield tweeted about the title
recently, offering praise to R-Truth and Drake Maverick for their recent efforts on television with the title. However, Layfield did also say that
he had a few clotheslines left in him, referencing his finishing move.
When the title was introduced, it was mentioned that legends would be challenging for it as well.

Bro, completely agree-this stuff with @RonKillings and @WWEMaverick is some entertaining TV. I do have about one or two clotheslines left https://t.co/eeEnk8yY8Q

    - John Layfield (@JCLayfield) June 21, 2019

Layfield has fought in some strange places before. Check out a match not
    even in a ring:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I mean, why not? The title is going to run out of steam
eventually as R-Truth can’t keep coming up with one wacky idea after
another forever. Let some other people come in, even if it’s just for a
one night cameo, and see where it can go. Layfield can be rather funny
when he wants to be and this could make for some entertaining segments, especially if he gets to look bewildered.

Do you want Layfield to get involved? Which other legends should do
something with the title? Let us know in the comments below.

RUMOR: That Sounds Bad. How Low Is Morale Backstage In WWE And Who Seems
    To Have Given Up?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2019 08:09 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/rumor-sounds-bad-low-morale-backstage-wwe-seems-given/

It’s not a good sign. Things are not going very well in WWE right now, at least from a fan enthusiasm perspective. Fans have not been pleased with
the storylines and there is a general feeling of apathy to most of the
product. That is only on one side for the curtain however. The locker
room could be in a very different place, but is that what is going on at
    the moment?

According to Brad Shepard, the locker room morale is very bad at the moment
in WWE, with very few top talents being interested in making things
better. Daniel Bryan and Rowan are said to be frustrated over not moving forward, Bayley and the Revival are not happy despite being champions and
Seth Rollins/Becky Lynch and Charlotte/Andrade are too wrapped up in their relationships to care. Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre are exceptions and
care about having a top level feud.

The source noted Roman and Drew are very interested in putting on a
memorable feud but everyone else seems to be lacking in the morale
department right now. They said Becky Lynch/Seth Rollins and
Charlotte/Andrade are too invested in their relationships right now to
    care. #WWE https://t.co/J38xJufhS5

    - Brad Shepard (@TheBradShepard) June 21, 2019

The source continued, calling everything a mess at the moment. They said
the women’s tag team titles might as well be defunct because they’re hardly ever brought up in meetings, Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan are pissed
    because they’ve been in a standstillcont. https://t.co/3o5aN3C5En

    - Brad Shepard (@TheBradShepard) June 21, 2019

Samoa Joe is allegedly just along for the ride, and Bayley and The Revival are still being crybabies even with the straps. They described it as utter chaos. #WWE #RAW #SDLive https://t.co/C6igOtYu7S

    - Brad Shepard (@TheBradShepard) June 21, 2019

Reigns and McIntyre have been at this for a long time. Check out one of
    their more recent brawls:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m really not sure about this as it seems unlikely that so many people are just not caring about what goes on in the company. Things are
very bad, but I find it hard to believe that so many people are this uninterested. That being said, how excited could you get when it seems
that so little going on in WWE matters at the moment due to such a lack of
    long term planning?

How bad is WWE at the moment? How long will it take to get better? Let us know in the comments below.

Another One Off The List. WWE Star Signs New Contract With The Company.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2019 07:39 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/another-one-off-list-wwe-star-signs-new-contract-company/

Bolstering the ranks. WWE is in a weird place at the moment with a lot of names trying to get out of their contracts or at least looking around to
see what options they might have outside of the company. However, not
everyone is going that way as some would rather stick around the biggest company in the world. WWE has even gotten one of them to sign a fresh deal with the company.

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, Mojo Rawley has signed a new contract
with WWE. While the length of the new contract is not known, WWE has been offering five year deals to most talent as of late. Rawley has been in WWE since 2016 with his most prominent win coming in the 2017 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Rawley’s most recent televised match on Monday
Night Raw taking place on May 13.

Even though he hasn’t been wrestling, Rawley has had something to say.
Check out his off air promo from earlier this month:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure how high Rawley was on WWE’s priority list but if they have him signed up now, they can at least focus on someone else for a change. Rawley has always seemed like someone WWE wants to push but
they’ve never actually gone anywhere with it. Maybe that can change in the future, but given all the people they can’t get on the show at the moment,
I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

What do you think of Rawley? Will he ever get a successful push? Let us
    know in the comments below.

WATCH: 24/7 Championship Match Takes Place In Unbelievable Location

    Posted: 21 Jun 2019 01:13 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/derekstoughton/watch-24-7-championship-match-takes-place-unbelievable-location/

Here comes the champion? WWE has posted a new video to their YouTube
channel, in which they show 24/7 Champion Drake Maverick being forced to
defend his title in an unbelievable location.

R-Truth showed up at Mavericks wedding with a referee and after he said I
Do, Truth helped him celebrate by winning the title back as Maverick was walking down the aisle with his new bride.

You can see a clip of that below:
[This post contains video, click to play]

It had been previously reported that the title was going to be defended on various social media platforms; this appears to be an example of that.

    Editors Opinion:

Im going to say it the 24/7 Championship might be the best thing about WWE right now. To be fair, a lot of it has to do with the fact that R-Truth has taken the concept and run with it, making it incredibly entertaining.
However, seeing all of the talent that arent involved in main storylines
being used in a humorous way is a lot of fun, and I look forward to it
    every week!

    Posted: 21 Jun 2019 07:44 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/derekstoughton/video-nikki-brie-bella-appear-jimmy-fallon-address-ring-careers/

Its always nice to know whats up. Earlier this week, Nikki and Brie Bella appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where they discussed a
number of topics. One of them was the in-ring career of both of them.

During the interview, it was confirmed that Brie had retired due to
becoming a mother. However, it was further revealed that Nikki would be retiring due to medical reasons. Below is what she had to say:
I really wanted to go back and fight for the tag titles, Bella told Fallon.
Ive always had my neck issues, and after neck surgery it hasnt been OK. I [felt] like I needed to get that checkup before we went back for the tag titles.
Then it came back that I herniated the disk above where I had surgery, I
have all this inflammation around the metal, and then I have a cyst on my brain, Bella said. So they were like, Youre done, no more, youre out.'

You can see the full interview below:

They also discussed spoiling Game of Thrones for everyone, the future of

Brock Lesnar: The Next Universal, or WWE, Champion?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2019 06:42 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tomclark/brock-lesnar-next-universal-wwe-champion/

Brock Lesnar will be the next Universal champion. At least, that’s what
many WWE fans believe. The Beast Incarnate has been toting the Money in the Bank briefcase around since May 19 and he’s been threatening to cash it in every step of the way. But every time WWE fans think it’s going to happen,
    it doesn’t.

However it’s only a matter of time until he finally makes the move, which
is exactly what a great number of fans are dreading. It’s not that Lesnar can’t handle the responsibility of being champion of course. Brock is one
of the last big money veterans left on the roster and if anyone can
believably get the job done as the top titleholder, it’s him. But what if Seth Rollins is not the real target?

The WWE faithful is keenly aware that Kofi Kingston’s championship is also not safe. The man on top of SmackDown Live has enjoyed being WWE champion
since WrestleMania 35 and he’s done a fine job as the blue brand’s big boss. But from the moment he won the WWE Championship from Daniel Bryan,
Kofi Kingston’s clock has been ticking.

The reason for that has less to do with Kofi the champion, as much as it
does Kofi the placeholder. Kingston’s title win and subsequent run were
both well deserved. But WWE doesn’t exactly have a great track record when
it comes to properly booking a fan favorite on top. That’s especially true
of Kofi, who has always struggled with one bad creative decision after
    another.

Listen to Paul Heymans warning to Seth Rollins!

Why did it take so long for Kingston to finally get a WWE title reign? Was
the company’s timing simply not there? Or was it o easy to book Kingston as
a comedy act that Vince McMahon forgot just how talented Kofi really is?
Does Vince even know how talented Kofi really is?

But to the company’s credit, Kofi Kingston is still the WWE champion. If
his Mania win was nothing more than a trendy feel-good moment, then chances
are he would no longer be wearing the strap. However, he is still rolling
along and his supporters are surely happy about it. But how much longer
    does he really have left?

Kingston is facing Dolph Ziggler at Stomping Grounds on June 24 in a title  match that many WWE fans believe will end with the champ retaining once
again. Ziggler is one of the best technicians in the company today and most fans have always recognized his talent over the years. But WWE has never
fully believed in Dolph as the top champion and there’s no reason to
    believe that will change now.

So when Kingston and Ziggler lock up on June 24, fans expect a well
wrestled match, which is exactly what they will get. But the buildup to
this match and many more in WWE, has been weak at best. These two men are facing each other because the company wants them to and that seems to be
    the only reason.

Listen to Dolph Ziggler talk about his Stomping Grounds match vs. Kofi Kingston!

Then there’s the fact that Ziggler and Kingston, despite how hard they
work, are seen as great mid-carders and that’s where it ends. That’s through no fault of their own of course, it’s just the hand they’ve been dealt.

The truth is that at this point, Kofi Kingston is a sitting duck. He’s an easy target and if Brock Lesnar decides to pounce, he will likely devour
the WWE champ. Lesnar would then take possession of the company’s top championship and his dominance over the blue brand would begin with a bang.

But why? Why would WWE continue to put forth the notion of The Beast
Incarnate cashing in on Seth Rollins, only to pul the swerve and redirect
him toward Kofi Kingston? The answer to that question is obvious, even if
it is perhaps much too simple for anyone to believe. The truth is that no matter how inspiring Kofi’s story of career perseverance has been, he’s perhaps not the marquee star that FOX is looking for.

SmackDown Live’s big move to the FOX Network in the fall of 2019 has been well publicized. The same is true of the rumor that the network wants a
more sports-based type of programming, as opposed to the grandiose form of entertainment that WWE is typically known for.

Listen to Seth Rollins talk about Brock Lesnar after Super ShowDown!

If that is indeed the case, which man would FOX perhaps prefer as WWE
champion? The smiling, hardworking Kofi Kingston who throws pancakes to the audience? Or the former UFC champion who is regularly presented as the
    biggest star in the company?

Some would say that a Lesnar cash-in over Kingston is far too predictable
and because of that, it’s just not what WWE would want to do. That may very well be true, especially since Kingston is still in the midst of his title reign and has indeed worked hard to prove he can rise to the occasion as
    WWE champion.

But fans are very aware of WWE’s commitment to Brock Lesnar. The company feels he is a major star that brings an air of believability to his matches
and to the overall product. He’s so important in fact that Vince McMahon is willing to put the gold on him and then keep him at home for weeks at a
    time.

It’s a fact that brings an incredible level of hate from the WWE faithful. That hate will only increase when Brock Lesnar does cash-in and become the
    new Universal, or WWE, champion.

    Fusion #62

    Date: June 15 2019

Location: Waukesha County Expo Center, Waukesha, Wisconsin

    Commentators: Jim Cornette, Rich Bocchini

It’s a special show as Salina de la Renta is in charge again. That means things should be a little bit more interesting than usual, as Salina is
awesome in a variety of ways. She’s one of the best villains in wrestling today and I could go for a show centered around her. Just give us some more storyline advancements on the good side, including either Mance Warner or
Sami Callihan leaving the company. Let’s get to it.

Salina’s leg welcomes us to the show and runs down the card. She’s very happy about getting rid of either Warner or Callihan.

Opening sequence, featuring Salina and her goons.

Callihan and Warner can’t get in the building due to Salina’s orders. Jimmy Havoc, now apparently Salina’s newest lackey, won’t let them in and the two of them aren’t happy. Of note: Sami kicks a door here, which apparently got him in hot water with the company because he did serious damage.
    Rey Horus vs. Flamita

They go with the wristdrags and flips to start with neither being able to
get in much of note. Both guys flip to their feet and the fans are rather appreciative. A running headscissors puts Horus down on the floor. That
means the big moonsault from the top and now we stop for the required floss dancing. The chinlock goes on for a bit, followed by even more dancing that Cornette ignores.

Horus is back up with an AJ Styles drop down into a dropkick and a
hurricanrana of his own. The big flip dive to the floor drops Flamita again
and the fans are right back into this. Back in and Horus kicks him in the
head for one but Flamita grabs a Muscle Buster into two knees to the chest
for two of his own. An overhead belly to belly into the corner gets two on Flamita and it’s time for the slow chop off.

Horus’ sunset flip is rolled through into a basement dropkick but he’s right back up for another dropkick of his own. A spear into the very
twisting tornado DDT sets up another DDT for two on Flamita and they’re
both down as Cornette tries to figure out how they come up with this stuff. They talk trash and forearm it out until Horus gets two off a spike hurricanrana. Flamita is right back with a tiger driver into a frog splash
for two of his own, followed by a 450 for the pin at 13:20.

    Result: Flamita b. Rey Horus 450 (13:20)

Video on Contra’s destruction and chaos.

Tom Lawlor has the Von Erichs backing him up against Contra. They’re
actually here this week, with Lawlor saying Contra talks about the world burning at their hands. Next week: Contra goes to sleep at Lawlor’s hands.

    Savio Vega is coming.
    Low Ki vs. Ricky Martinez

Salina de la Renta takes credit for tonight but mocks the fans for liking cheese. Low Ki charges straight at him to start so Martinez bails to the
floor, meaning it’s time for a chase. Martinez gets thrown back inside but
a Salina distraction lets Martinez get in a shot to the ribs. A running dropkick to the head gets two and we hit something like a camel clutch.

That’s broken up in a hurry and Low Ki hits the double stomp for a needed breather. The bodyscissors goes on as Cornette tries to figure out how Salina’s dress stays on (fair enough). Back up and Martinez pulls the
referee in front of a Low Ki charge and a kick to the face gets two. Low Ki
is back up and one heck of a clothesline….actually knocks Martinez out for the KO win at 5:53.

Result: Low Ki b. Ricky Martinez via knockout (5:53)

Post match Low Ki and Salina say something we can’t hear.

Sami Callihan and Mance Warner argue over who gets promo time and over who
is going to be riding a horse out of MLW.

    Video on LA Park.

    Dr. Wagner Jr. is coming.

Salina yells at Martinez and the F bombs are flying.

The Dynasty is getting ready for Richard Holliday’s match with Teddy Hart next week so Richard makes fun of Hart’s gear. They have to explain the
joke to Holliday and then make cat jokes. Hammerstone seems to brag about
being the only champion but backs down in a hurry.
    Mance Warner vs. Sami Callihan

Hardcore rules and the loser leaves MLW. Sami spits water on Cornette and Bocchini, which was pretty much it for him in MLW. Cornette throws a chair
at him and the swearing is on in a hurry, with some rather real insults
thrown in there. They slug it out on the floor and Cornette is going full blast, though he does make sure to say that he wants Mance to win to get
    rid of Sami.

It’s already time to go into the crowd and over to the merchandise stand
with Sami throwing various things at him. They ram each other into a fence around the stands and Sami suplexes him onto a bleacher for two. A trashcan goes over Warner’s head and they trade headbutts with Warner, the one whose head was covered in plastic, getting the better of it. Sami pelts a chair
at him and takes a bow as Cornette rants about all the diseases Sami has in
    his mouth.

It’s time to fight by the concession stand (Cornette: “Is this Tupelo?”) and there’s a spork to Sami’s head. Warner puts the Tabasco sauce in Sami’s
mouth as Teddy Hart is watching the fight. They actually get in the ring
and of course it’s time for the staple gun. A sunset flip is broken up with
a staple to Mance’s head and Sami puts a trashcan around him for a bonus.

Warner is busted open and Sami staples a dollar to his arm. Another one is stapled to his head as Cornette accurately says that this has nothing to do with wrestling. Warner fights back and finds a piece of wood from
underneath the ring. The wood is sets up between two chairs but Sami
catches him on top with a super piledriver for two. Since a jumping middle
rope piledriver through a table is only good for two here, Warner hits a
weak spear through more wood in the corner for two of his own.

With nothing else working, they sit down in a pair of chairs and slug it
out until they spit at each other for a change. Sami tombstones him near a chair for two and STAPLES HIS TONGUE TO THE WOOD. Warner rips it back off
and knees Sami in the head for one. Another running knee drives the wood
into Sami’s head for the pin at 18:12.

Result: Mance Warner b. Sami Callihan Running knee against a piece of wood (18:12)

    Main Event

    Date: June 20, 2019

Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California

    Commentators: Renee Young, Byron Saxton

This should be an interesting one as Monday Night Raw was a lot better this week, meaning there is a new level of stuff for Main Event to screw up. You never know what they might be able to pull off around here, but the
Smackdown highlights aren’t exactly looking promising. Let’s get to it.

    Opening sequence.
    Sarah Logan vs. Dana Brooke

Logan shoves her into the corner so Dana talks a bit. A small package gives Dana two and a cartwheel splash gets the same. Dana hits a running shoulder
but gets sent into the ropes. That means a trip to the apron where Logan
hits a running knee to drive Brooke’s face into the post. Brooke is busted BAD and the match is called off at 2:59.

Result: Sarah Logan b. Dana Brooke via referee stoppage (2:59)

    From Raw.

Here’s Roman Reigns, who isn’t happy with having to see a video of his loss to Shane McMahon at Super ShowDown. He wants to beat someone up tonight so Shane can come out here and fight. Shane pops up on screen to say no
because Reigns needs to worry about McIntyre on Sunday. Drew promises to
beat Roman up on Sunday until it becomes very uncomfortable. Maybe he’ll
pin Reigns then, but it won’t be over until Reigns is physically disfigured.

He wants Reigns’ children to scream at the sight of him and that’s enough for Reigns to come through the crowd and head after him. Reigns beats up
the Revival and puts Drew through the table before chasing Shane into the arena. A diving clothesline over the barricade drops Shane and it’s the Superman Punch into the spear. Reigns tells him to tell Drew he’s getting beaten up on Sunday.

    Reigns SMASH:

Here’s Becky Lynch for a chat. She gets straight to the point and calls out Lacey Evans, who comes out without much trouble. Evans talks about how
jealous Becky is of her and how many things she’s done that Becky can never dream of. She’s a former United States Marine who can run boot camp in the morning and a cotillion at night. Lynch just wants to fight while Evans
talks about how the women’s division needs a real woman as champion. Becky
is beatable, but Lacey spends too much time getting in the ring and gets
caught in the Bexploder. Becky steals her hat.

    Theyre still at it:

Here are Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross for a Moment of Bliss. Hang on though
as Bliss doesn’t have her coffee. Cue Bayley with the coffee, though she drinks it instead. Bliss starts talking about Bayley being horrible so
Bayley wants to hear it from her face to face.

After Bliss calls Bayley out for being two faced, Bayley talks about Bliss always being the one who tries to start drama because she’s an entitled little princess. Bliss: “I’m not entitled. I’m just better than you.” Bayley says she has proven herself but Bliss says Bayley peaked in NXT. The fight is on but Nikki offers a distraction so Bliss can deck Bayley.

They dont get along very well:

It’s time for the Firefly Fun House. Bray is watering his plants, which he says is just like our minds. If you water them and give them care, they can grow. Some ideas are just full of worms though and that’s not good. Some
kids have been told bad ideas, like the earth being round or dinosaurs
being extinct. Bray knows what it feels like to not belong or to be
    different.

That’s why he built this place for us, so they can all be together. We see all the puppets looking at him as Bray gets more sinister and tells
