Terry Funk Praises AEW, "Dusty Would Be Ecstatic"

    Posted: 28 May 2019 11:55 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/terry-funk-praises-aew-dusty-would-be-ecstatic/

WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk spoke with Sports Illustrated recently. In the interview, Funk lauded AEWs first show, Double or Nothing, saying Dusty
would be ecstatic watching this, also saying that Cody & Dustin are
    following in their fathers footsteps.

It was no easy thing for Dusty to get in the business, but he was always up
for a challenge. His boys are the same way.

Funk had to withdraw from that weekends Starrcast II due to an abdominal hernia, however the wild Texan still found time to watch the show. He had
high praise for the segment that followed Cody & Dustins match, comparing
it to Dustins reunion with Dusty Rhodes in 1994.

Creating in this business is making something new, but it is also touching
on something old. That’s what Cody and Dustin sure did, and it was
necessary for that moment to work.

Funk stated that Vince and WWE, theyre not fresh, as he spoke about why
theres a need for an alternative to the WWE in 2019.

Yes, Vince does big business. They have the best talent in the world, but
they have no fresh ideas. They should be selling out every arena. Vince
thinks he’s fresh, he thinks he’s the best. That’s when you get knocked on
    your ass.

WWE Edits Out Sami Zayns "AEW" Name-Drop From Bizarre Raw Segment

    Posted: 28 May 2019 03:37 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/wwe-edits-out-sami-zayns-aew-name-drop-from-bizarre-raw-segment/

In case you missed it, WWE commentator Corey Graves debuted a new in-ring
talk show segment called the Electric Chair this week on Monday Night Raw.

The idea, although were still incredibly confused on several points, is
that a new WWE Superstar will join him each week in the inexplicably
rebranded third hour of the show for a sit-down conversation, answering questions from the fans in attendance.

Graves first guest this Monday night was none other than the so-called
Critic of the Critics Sami Zayn, who fielded some incredibly stupid
questions from fans, before name-dropping AEW during a rant about how the
crowd could have asked him anything, but instead continually pitched him
the dumbest comments of all time. Hes not wrong.

Interestingly enough, when WWE uploaded the segment to their YouTube
channel, the mention of AEW and the brief crowd chant (Seth Rollins was
sent to the ring immediately to stop the chant) were edited out of the footage. You can check out the segment above.

Also, if anyone can explain to us why the electric chair is actually
necessary, or why Corey Graves had to stand in the ring doing absolutely nothing throughout the entire segment, please let us know in the comments section below. Weve got nothing

NJPW Confirms Jon Moxley vs Juice Robinson For The IWGP U.S. Title

    Posted: 28 May 2019 02:09 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/njpw-confirms-jon-moxley-vs-juice-robinson-for-the-iwgp-u-s-title/

New Japan Pro-Wrestling held a press conference this morning in Tokyo to officially confirm that the newest addition to the All Elite Wrestling
roster, Jon Moxley, will challenge Juice Robinson for the IWGP U.S.
Heavyweight Championship on June 5th at the Best of the Super Juniors
    Finals.

The promotion has been airing vignettes teasing a mysterious wrestler X set
to debut at the show, and confirmed early Monday morning that the videos
were indeed promoting the arrival of the former WWE world champion.

Also scheduled for June 5th at Ryogoku Sumo Hall is, of course, the finals
of the 2019 Best of the Super Juniors tournament, as well as the return
match of the Ace Hiroshi Tanahashi, who will step into the ring with the Switchblade Jay White in a big rematch from Wrestle Kingdom 12.

The reigning champion had the following to say about his upcoming title defense:

A lot of people dont know this, but me and Moxley started in FCW on the
same day. He wasnt Jon Moxley then, he was Dean Ambrose. I wasnt Juice
Robinson then, I was CJ Parker. 22-years-old.

He used to call me up on the phone and say, Hey CJ come to the bar! I
looked up to him, so we would go, and we would drink, and he would teach me about the business because he was a better professional wrestler than I was then, without a doubt, and I knew it. I knew he was better than me. I used
to be in the car with him, Seth [Rollins] and Corey [Graves].

Eventually Jon wasnt in Florida anymore. He left Florida and went to the
main roster, to win championship. He became one of the biggest names in the company, while CJ Parker stayed in Florida. CJ Parker had to pull himself
out of Florida and come to New Japan, and hit the reset button. Goodbye CJ Parker, hello Juice Robinson.

Jon Moxley, I want you to understand this. I am not CJ Parker anymore. I am
a real life professional wrestler, and dammit Im the IWGP United States Champion, and that means the world [to me]. Ive been complaining and saying that I want challengers that are gonna elevate this title.

Youre exactly what I want Jon, but hear me when I tell you if you think
youre just gonna come here to NJPW, my home if you think youre going to
make your name on me, youre wrong. Ask Cody. I Pulp Friction-ed Cody right
out of the company. Im going to show up to Ryogoku ready for a fight. I
know the media has already crowned him. I know social media has already
crowned him. But do you know who hasnt? The people sitting in that arena
my fans, who believe in me. The people that know my heart is in New Japan.

Rey Mysterio To Relinquish The WWE United States Championship

    Posted: 28 May 2019 01:28 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/rey-mysterio-to-relinquish-the-wwe-united-states-championship/

WWE has officially announced that Rey Mysterio will return to Monday Night Raw next week in Austin, Texas to relinquish the WWE United States Championship.

Mysterio won the title from Samoa Joe in controversial fashion at Money in
the Bank, and suffered a partially torn shoulder during a post-match
beatdown. The two veteran stars were in the midst of a program building
towards the involvement of Reys son Dominic, who has been training as a wrestler for the last few years.

Next weeks Raw is the go-home show ahead of WWE Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia, so its likely well see some kind of last minute set-up to crown a
    new champion on that show.

Universal Title Match Set For WWE Super Showdown, Updated Match Card

    Posted: 27 May 2019 08:57 PM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/universal-title-match-set-for-wwe-super-showdown-updated-match-card/

Baron Corbin has officially been named the #1 contender to the WWE
Universal Championship, and will challenge Seth Rollins for the title at
the upcoming WWE Super Showdown event in Saudi Arabia.

Corbin won a Fatal 4-Way match on Monday Night Raw this week that also involved Bobby Lashley, Braun Strowman and The Miz, to earn his spot in the match.

For what its worth, while the title match has been officially announced,
WWE commentary was very heavy-handed in pushing the idea that Brock Lesnar holds the Money in the Bank briefcase and can essentially void a title
    match at a moments notice.

Lesnar vs. Rollins was on the books for the Saudi Arabia show since before WrestleMania, according to multiple sources, and Corbin vs. Rollins is currently being advertised for upcoming events in June and July, so its possible they could make the switch on next Monday nights go-home show.

    Heres the updated match card:

    WWE Universal Championship Match

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Baron Corbin

    WWE Championship Match

Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

    Goldberg vs. The Undertaker

    Triple H vs. Randy Orton

    Intercontinental Championship Match

    Finn Balor (c) vs. Andrade

    Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon

    Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley

    50-Man Battle Royal

WWE Pulls AJ Styles From Monday Night Raw Due To Injury

    Posted: 27 May 2019 06:17 PM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/wwe-pulls-aj-styles-from-monday-night-raw-due-to-injury/

AJ Styles has been pulled from tonights advertised Fatal 4-Way match
on Monday Night Raw, which will determine the #1 contender to the WWE Universal Championship. He has been replaced in the bout by Baron Corbin.

The reason given for Styles being pulled from the show is that he suffered
an injury during his match with Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank, and that
he felt something pop in his lower back.

On Raw tonight, Corbin attacked Styles during a backstage segment which may write the Phenomenal One off programming for the time being. WWE may also
just be setting up an angle between the two, as they are advertised for upcoming matches together, and we have not been able to confirm the
    legitimacy of the alleged injury.

Well keep you posted as more information becomes available.

Results by Doug Enriquez for ProWrestling.com
    BACKSTAGE SEGMENT

We start the show with Brock smiling with his new Brock Party shirt, and
Heyman leads him out to the ring.
    IN RING SEGMENT

ITS A NEW DAY, YES IT IS! Kofi Kingston is out there once again, thanks to
the WWE Wild Card Rule. We see a recap of what Dolph Ziggler did to Kofi .
Kofi lets us know that Kevin Owens injured Big E and Big E is out once
again with a knee injury. He says that Dolph Ziggler tried to end him, but Dolph didnt finish the job because he is still there, and he is still
    standing tall.

But he is there tonight to address Brock Lesnar, Mr. Money In The Bank. He
says that tonight is the night that Brock chooses his opponent. He
considers himself to be a fighting champion, and he wants to be considered
one of the best WWE Champions of all time, and he cant think of a better
way to do that than by beating Brock Lesnar. He calls for Brock to come out
and cash in the contract on him tonight.

BURRRRN IT DOWN! We now have the Universal Champion Seth Rollins coming
out, and he says he doesnt want to wait any longer. He calls out the beast
    to make his decision.

We hear Brocks music, but he comes out in a hoodie/shirt and with a
briefcase that now has speakers in it. It is not a briefcase boombox. He
comes out dancing to hip hop and does the running man in the middle of the ring. Seth Rollins is sick and tired of it and he leaves. Paul Heyman says
that Seth Rollins peed on their party, so now theyre not going to make a decision. They leave and Dolph Ziggler comes from nowhere and attacks Kofi Kingston. He gives him a Zig Zag on the steel ramp, but out comes Xavier
Woods to help him out and he fights off Ziggler. Ziggler comes back and the
two fight to the top of the ramp. Woods brings it back into the ring and he gives Ziggler rights and lefts.

Ziggler gains the upper hand by tossing Woods to the outside. He follows
and tosses Woods into the barricade. Ziggler picks him back up and the
fights makes its way into the WWE Universe. Woods now gets the upper hand
and he jumps off the barricade at Ziggler. The fight makes it back ringside
and Ziggler grabs a chair and starts to annihilate Woods with it. He wraps
it around the neck of Xavier Woods and looks to crush Woods neck! Kofi
comes back out with a chair and chases off Ziggler.
