It Would Be A Steal. Popular Mixed Martial Artist Says WWE Tried To Get
Him To Ditch UFC And Come To Monday Night Raw

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 01:28 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/steal-popular-mixed-martial-artist-says-wwe-tried-get-ditch-ufc-come-monday-night-raw/

If you can’t make em, steal em. Professional wrestling and mixed martial arts seem to go hand in hand. There have certainly been successful (and unsuccessful) names moving from one side of the spectrum to the other and
WWE seems interested in seeing what they can do with bringing in more mixed martial artists. It turns out they were taking a shot at a big name and opening their wallets to get him.

Chael Sonnen recently appeared on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show and discussed
an offer made to him by WWE before his 2012 fight against Anderson Silva at
UFC 148. Sonnen says that he was offered $1 million to skip the fight and
show up on Monday Night Raw instead, or $5 million to show up with the UFC Middleweight Title should he win the belt. Sonnen did not show up in WWE,
nor did he win the fight in the first place.

There’s a lot here and Sonnen is a great storyteller. Check out the full interview right here:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Would this really be that far out of the realm of possibility?
Sonnen is a longtime wrestling fan and has appeared on several wrestling
events before, so WWE being interested in a professional athlete with incredible talking abilities and a love of wrestling isn’t hard to
imagine. Sonnen is probably lucky that he didn’t take the deal, but it
could have been interesting if he did.

Would Sonnen have worked in WWE? Will he ever appear there? Let us know
    in the comments below.

He Kicked Out Again. Ric Flair Gives Huge Update On His Health, Including Details On Four Recent Heart Surgeries

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 01:23 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/kicked-ric-flair-gives-huge-update-health-including-details-four-recent-heart-surgeries/

This was a big one. There are very few legends in wrestling today (or
ever) on the level of Ric Flair. He is one of the most successful
wrestlers of all time and certainly one of the best known, yet he is also seventy years old and not in the best of health. Earlier this year, Flair
had some major procedures taken care of and now he has gone into details on what happened and how bad it was.

Flair recently appeared on Busted Open Radio to talk about his recent procedures and explain what happened to him. There were four total
procedures, all related to Flair’s heart. The first made sure that there
was no blockage and the second took care of an irregularity in Flair’s heartbeat. The third procedure was some repair work on his heart, but due
to some issues involved in his recovery, the fourth procedure was required
to fix everything up again. Flair also had a blood clot that had to be
dealt with, which caused the delay in one of his procedures. He was very secretive about the procedures and did not even tell Charlotte.

Now that the procedures are over, Flair is allowed to go out but not
exercise yet. He did however say that he is feeling better than he has in
over ten years. Flair has also been able to go and do an autograph
signing, though he is now going to be taking his time and letting it heal properly this time. There is no word on when Flair is going to be back to
    his regular schedule of appearances.

Flair has had some issues. Check out him discussing his previous health
    scare:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I don’t know how Flair manages to keep surviving all of these
things but there are some people you just can’t keep down. Flair has been around forever and somehow keeps managing to survive these horrible medical issues. I’m not sure how much longer he has left but the fact that he has made it this long is nothing short of remarkable. Hopefully that continues
to be the case because it’s going to be devastating when he is gone.

What is your favorite Flair match? Who would you want to see him face in
his prime? Let us know in the comments below.

Major League Wrestling Fusion Results - June 8, 2019

    Fusion #61

    Date: June 8, 2019

Location: Waukesha County Expo Center, Waukesha, Wisconsin

    Commentators: Jim Cornette, Rich Bocchini

It’s back to the regular show after last week’s Fury Road special. That makes for something a little less important but possibly better as they
don’t have to feel like they’re under so much pressure. The big stories out of last week are the continuation of the Dynasty vs. the Hart Foundation
and Tom Lawlor vs. Contra. Let’s get to it.

We open with a recap of Alexander Hammerstone winning the inaugural
National Openweight Title over Brian Pillman Jr. last week.

Hammerstone was at his training facility earlier while an unnamed blonde
held the title. He talks about where all of Pillman’s hard work got him but says Richard Holliday and Maxwell Jacob Friedman chose to follow around
him. Hammerstone picks up Rich Bocchini to show off his strength and draw
    some screaming.

    Opening sequence.

We look back at Contra attacking Lawlor, who wants revenge instead of an arrest.
    Kotto Brazil vs. Richard Holliday

Holliday has the rest of the Dynasty with him, including Aria Blake.
Friedman and Hammerstone head to the back though and it’s only two on one. The cocky Holliday shoves Kotto down to start and then hammers him into the corner for a bonus.

Kotto’s bad eye is still all messed up for a rather disturbing visual. Holliday cuts off a comeback with a right hand to the ribs but Brazil springboards over him. A guillotine choke is countered into a suplex though
as Holliday is getting to show off a lot more than usual here. Kotto
finally gets in a Stunner as Cornette wants to know if Kotto is related to Bobo. A top rope kick to the chest has Holliday in more trouble but a heck
of a clothesline cuts him off again. Holliday hits a gutwrench powerbomb
    for the pin at 5:15.

Result: Richard Holliday b. Kotto Brazil Gutwrench powerbomb (5:15)

We look at last week’s title match and what we just saw.
    Air Wolf vs. Ace Austin

They trade headlocks to start, followed by Austin’s quickly reversed
armbar. Wolf hits a hurricanrana and it’s a standoff as we hear about
Salina de la Renta possibly recruiting him, which could be interesting. A dropkick puts Austin on the floor but Austin is ready for the obvious dive. Wolf gets shoved off the top and out to the floor, allowing Austin to hit a dive of his own. After some fans call Wolf a fake luchador, he’s fine
enough to smack Austin in the head on the way back in.

Austin goes right back to the arm though and Wolf can’t keep anything
going. A dropkick sends him into the corner and Wolf has to check his teeth underneath the mask. Wolf gets tied in the Tree of Woe but he’s able to
avoid a top rope splash. A snap German suplex and a swinging butterfly
suplex give Wolf two and it’s time to start kicking at the chest.

Austin is back with a kick to the head though and a spinning suplex gets
two on Wolf. Back up and a hard clothesline turns Wolf inside out but
Austin is down as well. Wolf spins up for a kick to the head but gets
crotched on top. That’s not the biggest problem in the world though as Wolf shoves Austin down and hits….I think a top rope Downward Spiral for the pin at 10:38.

Result: Air Wolf b. Ace Austin Top rope Downward Spiral (10:38)

Myron Reed protested outside the arena earlier today.

Salina de la Renta is in charge of next week’s show and already has a main event set: Mance Warner vs. Sami Callihan in a falls count anywhere loser leaves MLW match.

The next live special is Kings of Colosseum with a main event of Tom Lawlor defending the World Title against Jacob Fatu.

An intense Lawlor says he’s been beaten up before and now Contra has cut
him as well. He signed up for a beating but not to be stabbed in his back.
Now he wants to take care of Contra and he’s found some guys to help deal with him. That would be the Von Erichs and it’s time to clean this place up.

Callihan and Warner dub themselves the Midwest Mega Powers but they like to fight each other. Next week, they’re going to make Cornette want to quit because it’s going to get that violent. They don’t seem to agree on who is going to win though and THEY TURN THEIR HATS AROUND. Sami pulls out a
staple gun, though Mance is more worried about it being sanitary.

Low Ki is ready for Ricky Martinez, who is officially on his list.

Contra talks about being ready for Lawlor and the Von Erichs. Violence is promised.
Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman

The rest of the Dynasty is here but Smith is on his own. Friedman bails to
the floor at the bell and we hit the stall button for over a minute until
Smith pulls him inside. The beating is on as the announcers talk about
drugging people. Smith skins the cat and hits a big boot for two but has to stop and yell at Hammerstone. That’s enough of a distraction to let
Friedman wrap the leg around the post to take over.

Friedman is smart enough to talk to the referee, allowing Holliday and Hammerstone to stay on the leg. We settle down to Friedman cannonballing
onto the leg but Smith pulls him down into a leglock due to some rather
high level grappling skills. A cross armbreaker is broken up as well and Friedman uses a Holliday distraction to choke with the scarf. Holliday
tries it again so Friedman gets a shirt but Smith takes it away and chokes
    this time.

Unfortunately this time the referee catches him so Smith has to go with an enziguri for a Flair Flop. The Contra logo pops up on the screen and we
come back with Smith hitting a top rope superplex for two. The powerslam
gets the same and a jumping Tombstone knocks Friedman silly. Instead of covering though he hits a Swan Dive for two, with Holliday putting the foot
    on the rope.

Cue Brian Pillman Jr. to finally take care of Holliday but Friedman gets in
a chop block. The Sharpshooter is broken up but Smith has to go after Hammerstone. Friedman’s rollup with feet on the ropes gets caught as Teddy Hart comes out to take care of Hammerstone. Friedman yells at the referee
and gets shoved into the running powerslam to finally finish Friedman at
    11:30.

Result: Davey Boy Smith b. Maxwell Jacob Friedman Running powerslam (11:30)

We cut to the back where Contra has attacked Lawlor again, plus Lawlor’s training partner Ariel Dominguez. Josef Samael throws fire at the camera to
    end the show.

(VIDEO): Everyone Has To Go Sometime. John Cena On Retiring From WWE.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 11:03 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-everyone-go-sometime-john-cena-retiring-wwe/

It’s one of those things that has to happen. Love him, hate him or
somewhere in between, almost everyone has an opinion on John Cena. He is
one of the biggest stars in the history of wrestling and has been the face
of WWE for a long time now. At the same time though, he is now becoming a movie star and is all but done as an active wrestler. While he still pops
up every now and then, those days might be coming to a close.

Its going to be a big deal. Check out Cena on Goldberg, Undertaker and retirement:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Cena was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports and was asked about
retirement. While he did not exactly explain what his plans were on the subject, he did say that it is something he thinks about on a daily basis.
Cena did not announce his retirement or even give a general date on when he would be retiring, but rather that it is something he thinks about but that
is it something he will stop doing when he’s ready. Here are his comments, with transcription courtesy of 411mania.com:

“I think an individual’s career is up to the individual. I think that’s pretty much the way I can describe that. You know, I’ve been having the
same conversation with myself. I’m only 42 but it’s something we’ve gotta address each day and that’s individually specific. When those people are ready to stop, they’ll stop.”

Opinion: I know that Cena is all but retired these days, but the idea of
Cena just being done as a wrestler is almost hard to fathom. He’s been
such a standard for WWE for so long now that the idea of his era ending
feels so strange. I would hope that he has a major retirement match as he
has more than earned one, though I could also see him just slipping away
    and never wrestling again.

Do you think Cena will have a retirement match? Who should he face in his
last match? Let us know in the comments below.

Get Them In The Ring. Pretty Cool Title Match Takes Place After SmackDown Live.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 10:59 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/get-ring-pretty-cool-title-match-takes-place-smackdown-live/

They’re mixing these things up. One of the more interesting problems WWE
has at the moment is managing to get more people onto their television broadcasts on any given week. With so many wrestlers and a limited amount
of television time, there is only so much that can be done. Dark matches
can help with this issue and that is what they did on Tuesday.

According to Wrestlinginc.com, there was a dark match both before and after this week’s SmackDown Live taping, as is the case nearly every week.
Before the show, Ember Moon defeated Liv Morgan. Moon appeared on the show
in a backstage segment but did not wrestle. After the show was over, Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor successfully defended the title
against Shinsuke Nakamura. Neither of them appeared on the show.

The latter match has taken place before, albeit on a different stage.
Check out Balor vs. Nakamura from NXT:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: These are some different dark matches and that’s not the worst
idea in the world. Nakamura hasn’t had a television match outside of a battle royal in over a month so putting out a star like this, who barely
ever gets to be on television these days, is a good idea. He and Balor are both big names so giving the fans something to make them stick around after
the show should work fairly well.

Which of these matches interests you more? What is next for Balor and the title? Let us know in the comments below.

(WATCH): Kofi Kingston Does The Weather. In A Pancake Suit.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 10:56 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-kofi-kingston-weather-pancake-suit/

I don’t think this needs much of an explanation. Back at WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston won the WWE Championship, thereby becoming one of the faces
of the company. This includes various media appearances, some of which are
a little less serious than others. That was the case this week, when
Kingston did something involving the weather, a suit, and pancakes.

On Tuesday, Kingston appeared on the Fox 40 (Sacramento) local news
broadcast and did the local weather report while wearing a pancake track
suit and holding the WWE Title. Kingston was in town for the SmackDown
Live taping that night at the Golden 1 Center and promoted the event on the broadcast. He also posted a quick clip of the broadcast on his Twitter account, which you can see below.

Kingston could have another career. Check out his work on the weather forecast:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: These are the kind of things that you get to do as champion and
while they might not be the most interesting in the world, they certainly
are something fun. That’s what they were going for here and there’s nothing wrong with that. Maybe some of the local fans who hadn’t heard
about the show or hadn’t made up their mind to go to the show that night wound up going and that’s exactly what WWE was going for here.

What do you think of Kingston’s title reign? Who takes the title from
him? Let us know in the comments below.

The Other End Of Price Spectrum. You Will Be Able To Watch AEW Fyter Fest
    100% Free.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 09:30 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/end-price-spectrum-will-able-watch-aew-fyter-fest-100-free/

That’s one way to price it. AEWs Double Or Nothing was a rather well received event with some of the highest praise for a wrestling show in a
very long time. There are all kinds of things to talk about with the show,
but one of the main criticisms was the price. The show cost $50 in the
United States and while fans still bought it, the price was a bit of a sore spot. That won’t be the case with AEW’s second event.

At this weekend’s E3 convention, AEW Executive Vice President Kenny Omega announced that AEW’s next event, Fyter Fest, will be airing completely free on the B/R Live streaming service. The event, which takes place on June
29, will be AEW’s second event and take place in Daytona Beach, Florida. There is no word on if any of their future events will be available for
free on the service in the future.

It’s kind of a big deal. Check out the announcement from AEW:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is quite the move to make, but at the same time there is only
so much that can be done at a high price tag. Fifty dollars is a lot of
money and not something that you can ask the fans to do every single
month. Offering everyone a chance to sample the product for free is a very interesting move and might get some more people to be willing to pay for
    the show down the line.

How excited are you for Fyter Fest? What do you expect to headline the
card? Let us know in the comments below.

Take Your Time. Two SmackDown Live Stars On Leave Due To Mother Passing
    Away.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 09:21 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/take-time-two-smackdown-live-stars-leave-due-mother-passing-away/

There’s no easy way around this one. In wrestling, it seems that we are always getting to see what goes on in stars’ lives. However, there is a
lot more to it than that. These people that we see on television every
week have lives outside of the ring, including relationships and families. Sometimes the real lives take over what we see on screen and in this case that’s more than fine for some SmackDown stars.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Andrade’s mother passed away while he was in Saudi Arabia for Super ShowDown. As a result, Andrade and his girlfriend Charlotte have been given a leave of absence
from WWE to deal with the situation. Neither were on this week’s SmackDown Live though Andrade’s manager Zelina Vega promised that he would be back to deal with Apollo Crews at some point in the near future.

He might be back to do something like this. Check out Andrade going after
    the Intercontinental Title:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: There’s no easy way around that and Andrade should be allowed to take all the time that he needs to deal with these things. Allowing
Charlotte to be gone with him is a good move as well as she can be there
for emotional support if nothing else. This is something that a lot of
people have had to deal with over the years but it certainly does not make thing any easier.

What do you want to see Andrade do when he gets back? When will Charlotte
be back in the title picture? Let us know in the comments below.

A Fresh Face. Former Champion Debuts On 205 Live And Gets In On The Action Fast.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 09:17 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/fresh-face-former-champion-debuts-205-live-gets-action-fast/

That’s a new one. WWE has a lot of different rosters to fill and often
times that includes a lot of different wrestlers moving around to fill
them. Sometimes there are moves that should seem to be obvious but take a
long time to actually happen. We got another one of those moves this week
as someone went from doing pretty much nothing to going to a different
    roster.

This week on 205 Live, Chad Gable made his debut for the brand. Gable was brought out as a surprise by 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick and
went on to defeat Jack Gallagher via DQ. At the moment it seems that this
is going to be a permanent move for Gable. Since his split with Bobby
Roode, Gable’s only televised match has been in the fifty man battle royal
    at Super ShowDown.

He didnt waste any time. Check out Gables 205 Live debut:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is a move that makes sense and is rather overdue. Gable is someone who is probably going to be seen as too small to make it on the
main roster, despite being an Olympic wrestler with great charisma. 205
Live might not be the best place in WWE, but it’s certainly better than
being part of the mob that chases R-Truth around every single week. Take
what you can get and maybe it can lead somewhere.

Do you like Gable on 205 Live? How big of a star can he be there? Let us

Rob Van Dam is one of the most popular pro wrestling stars of all time. The former ECW mainstay and WWE champion is still active in the business today, after a nearly thirty year career and he’s not hanging up the boots anytime soon.

But The Whole F’N Show has been in the headlines recently for his life outside of the squared circle. That life includes a documentary film called Headstrong, which began as nothing more than a project focusing on RVD’s standup comedy act.

However, the film quickly became a crusade to educate the general public on
the reality of concussions in sports. It’s a topic that RVD knows all too well, especially over the past three years.

“I was asking my peers years ago, if they had any concussion damage, you know, long lasting, what we call post-concussion syndrome. I was surprised
that most of my peers said yeah, they had no question about it. I still
feel that way, when I talk to my peers, they seem to be living with
symptoms. Some of them would say ‘I see stars throughout the day.’ Some of my friends would say headaches, or that they just doze off in the middle of
a sentence. I was hearing everybody say that, I was like wow I’m really
lucky because at that time, I had zero.”

RVD said that he was talking to scientists about developing a neuron
protector with CBD’s. He also said that he wanted to help not only his
