Cruiserweight Dream Match Set for WWE Raw at Madison Square Garden

    Posted: 06 Sep 2019 11:47 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/cruiserweight-dream-match-set-for-wwe-raw-at-madison-square-garden/

A dream match in Madison Square Garden.

WWE has officially confirmed that Rey Mysterio will return to the ring next week on Monday Night Raw, live from the worlds most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. This will be the lucha legends first match on television
since starting the angle with his son Dominik, where he teased retiring
after questioning whether he could still hold his own in the ring.

His opponent for The Garden? None other than 205 Live Superstar and Lucha
House Party founding father Gran Metalik.

While some may not consider Gran Metalik to be among WWEs most sought-after Superstars on the roster today, prior to signing with the company he had an outstanding 10-year career in Mexico, with more than an occasional stop in Japan.

Prior to Rey Fenix popularizing these kinds of spots, Metalik (then known
as Mascara Dorado) was one of the true great innovators of offense by incorporating the ring ropes into his acrobatic combinations.

He is also a four-time CMLL World Welterweight Champion, and while he never quite won the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion during his many, many tours
with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, he has participated in three Best of the
    Super Juniors tournaments.

Here is a highlight video of his match with Kenny Omega from the 2015 NJPW Invasion Attack event. The full match is of course available on
    NJPWWorld.com.

Lio Rush On How He Caught WWEs Attention, Talks Teaming With Velveteen Dream

    Posted: 06 Sep 2019 09:00 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/lio-rush-on-how-he-caught-wwes-attention-talks-teaming-with-velveteen-dream/

Lio Rush was a recent guest on the Cheap Heat podcast where he discussed
how he originally caught the attention of WWE with his in-ring work. Below
are some highlights with a H/T to WrestlingInc.com for the transcriptions.

    On catching WWEs attention:

I was coming up on my contract with Ring of Honor and I knew I didnt want
to be there anymore and I wanted to go overseas, so I didnt resign with
Ring of Honor. I spent a year there and I always feel like I am the kind of person that if I do something, even if its a short amount of time, thats on
my resume for the rest of my life, said Rush. I kept building my resume so
I felt that I had a pretty impactful run with Ring of Honor to kind of get
my name out there more and be able to learn and wrestle from some of the
best wrestlers in the world. I knew that I wanted to wrestle overseas and I knew that Ring of Honor would help me build that name to potentially get
booked overseas, which ended up happening.

I spent about three months in Europe and then I spent a little under a
month in Mexico and about a month in Canada, so I was all over the place so
WWE took notice of that. I had a couple of matches that had gone viral, a couple of clips that grabbed peoples attention and then I got the call from WWE that they were going to be bringing me up with a few familiar faces
that I knew from Ring of Honor so it was pretty cool.

Teaming with Velveteen Dream before WWE:

I started out in a tag-team, which is how me and Patrick became so close.
We were in a tag team called Sudden Impact, and we were just two young
athletes who had just graduated from the training school and were trying to make a name for ourselves. It wasnt so much about the characters; we came
out in tracksuits, looking like a unit. It was crazy how fast we got
noticed by a lot of people, stated Rush.

We didnt stay in Maryland for too long; we wanted to venture out. We did
some independent shows in the New York area. We went to Pennsylvania
working for Samu, which built our confidence a little bit. Got some eyes
and attention on us and once we started rocking and rolling Patrick gets a
call from WWE saying that he was going to be on Tough Enough and that was
the end of that. We were a team for not even a year, so it wasnt that long,
but at that time we were a team we definitely made an impact.

Ronda Rousey Officially Moved To WWEs Alumni Section

    Posted: 06 Sep 2019 08:00 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/ronda-rousey-officially-moved-to-wwes-alumni-section/

WWE has made a major change to how they are advertising Ronda Rousey on
their website this week, with the former Raw Womens Champion changing
    sections.

WWEs profile section lists the current active performers for each brand,
while the company also has an Alumni section for wrestlers who no longer
    work with the company.

This week WWE has moved Rousey to the Alumni section, out of the active talents. Rousey hasnt been seen in WWE since WrestleMania 35, and it is
unknown if, or when she will return.

Baron Corbin On If He Was Over Exposed & Why He Was Off TV Following WWE Extreme Rules

    Posted: 06 Sep 2019 07:30 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/baron-corbin-on-if-he-was-over-exposed-why-he-was-off-tv-following-wwe-extreme-rules/

Baron Corbin recently spoke with Sporting News where he discussed his
recent push during WWE Extreme Rules, and why he disappeared afterwards.

On if he was overexposed before WWE Extreme Rules:

I dont think I was overexposed. I think it was a good thing for because
coming from the Lone Wolf as this big, angry guy that just tried to beat everybody up, it gave me a lot of depth in becoming Constable and giving me
the microphone and playing off of Kurt (Angle) and the other superstars and abusing power. It was also one of those things where me handing me a promo
and Im opening the show. Thats an important spot. Thats a Roman Reigns spot or John Cena spot, The Rock spot, opening Monday Night RAW and it was kind of sink or swim for me — I gotta deliver this. I have to do a really good
job at it and I kept crushing it so theyre giving me more and more. I think
it made me ready for anything in WWE and it took me, as a performer, to
another level. I think being under that much pressure is only going to help
me throughout the rest of my career, Corbin said.

On why he was taken off television following WWE Extreme Rules:

I feel like it was a good thing to kind of recalibrate and look at things
and see what I can change or evolve. Plus, just to kind of give the fans a break for a minute, to be missed. Its so funny because my social media
would be like, Oh my goodness, a RAW without Baron Corbin, that was the greatest thing ever to like after three weeks going Wait, wheres he at? I
miss him. Its kind of a wild thing. So I think it was a good thing for
myself and for everybody to get that little break and reload. If you see
the same thing over and over and over, you get kind of tired of it. I think thats a really cool thing about King of the Ring; we pulled it back for a
few years and now its back and people are really excited about it, Corbin said.

Rob Van Dam Reveals He Has Extended His IMPACT Wrestling Deal, Talks About
    Raw Reunion Appearance

    Posted: 06 Sep 2019 06:00 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/rob-van-dam-reveals-he-has-extended-his-impact-wrestling-deal/

Rob Van Dam recently spoke with Fightful.com where he discussed his current deal with IMPACT Wrestling and his appearance at the Raw Reunion.

On extending his current IMPACT deal:

I talked with IMPACT! about what I wanted to do, which is mostly stay home unless the business reaches a certain level to pique my interest. And they
came to that level. Everyone’s talking about AEW, and how they could be scaring WWE. I happen to know IMPACT! can afford RVD, so they’re something someone should be talking about too. It’s all business. I did a match, I think it was WrestleCon—Sabu and I had a tag match and first it was just a one off, and then Scott D’Amore in the office said, “Hey, what do you think about doing this other handful of matches?” Took me to October, and then recently we added a few more matches so I’ll be with them ‘til January. Then we’ll see how it goes after that, said Van Dam.

On how the Raw Reunion appearance came around:

Yes and no. Yes, the call was a surprise. And IMPACT! reacting the way that they did, in a favorable way, didn’t surprise me because when I talked to them about promoting my documentary Headstrong, they were happy to do it.
And then ran a trailer on their show, on the weekly TV show, and they said “Hey, anything to help you, helps us.” So I just assume that’s the way they
would look at me being on the RAW Reunion as well, RVD noted.

Top Independent Name Working This Weeks Impact Wrestling TV Tapings

    Posted: 05 Sep 2019 05:00 PM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/top-independent-name-working-this-weeks-impact-wrestling-tv-tapings/

According to PWInsider.com, Joey Ryan is at this weeks Impact Wrestling television tapings in  Las Vegas. He was reportedly recording pre-tape
footage on Thursday and may have appeared on that nights show.

Ryan first appeared for Impact (then known as TNA Wrestling) back in 2012
when he was still rising through the ranks on the independent scene. His
run there was short-lived, leaving the following year, but it wasnt long
after when his gimmick began to really catch fire.

Of course, he was brought to Lucha Underground in 2015, and once again
exploded in popularity as a reoccurring character on Being the Elite,
famously being murdered on the show by Hangman Page, and then returning to haunt him with a fleet of Penis Druids at All In in 2018.
