How Is Your Bracket? Updated King Of The Ring Tournament Bracket Plus Remaining Schedule.

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 11:24 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/bracket-updated-king-ring-tournament-bracket-plus-remaining-schedule/

And then there were half. Earlier this month, WWE announced the long
awaited return of the King Of The Ring tournament. The tournament, which
has been held intermittently since the end of the annual competition in
2002, offers an instant upgrade for anyone who wins it, making the
tournament a rather important accomplishment on almost any resume. And now, we’re done with the first round.

After this week’s SmackDown Live, the first round of the King Of The Ring tournament has come to an end, leaving the field at eight instead of the sixteen that started. The quarterfinals will take place on next week’s
Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live, the semifinals the week after that and
the finals at Clash Of Champions. Here are the updated brackets:
    Monday Night Raw

    Samoa Joe

    Ricochet

    Cedric Alexander

    Baron Corbin
    SmackDown Live

    Elias

    Ali

    Chad Gable

    Andrade

There was some good action on Tuesday. Check out the two first round
    matches from SmackDown Live:

Opinion: The field has thinned out quite a bit now and that makes for a
better looking tournament. With so many people included earlier on, it was
a bit more difficult to figure out where things were going to go. Now
though, we have a group of potential winners along with some names who just aren’t going to get past their next match. It should make for an
interesting tournament going forward and that’s a nice feeling.

Who do you think wins the tournament? Who is your dark horse pick? Let us
    know in the comments below.

The Small Ones. New Title Match Set For Clash Of Champions.

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 11:21 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/small-ones-new-title-match-set-clash-champions/

From the purple crew. Clash Of Champions is coming up pretty soon and that means that WWE needs to get some more of the card together pretty fast.
This week has already seen a few matches announced for the show, but with
so many titles floating around WWE, there is almost always one more thing
that needs to be set up. One of those was taken care of on Tuesday night.

On this week’s 205 Live, Humberto Carrillo defeated Oney Lorcan to become
the new #1 contender to Drew Gulak’s Cruiserweight Championship. Lorcan
has spent several weeks chasing the title but lost in his title shot
against Gulak at Summerslam. Carrillo has also been positioned to get a
shot at Gulak, though this will be his first title shot of any kind in WWE.

They beat each other up pretty well. Check out the match:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: There were only two options to challenge Gulak and Carrillo was
one of them. WWE has made him feel like a bigger deal over the last few
weeks and as he and Lorcan were the survivors in last week’s elimination
tag, it was kind of a layup to have them face off for the title shot.
Carrillo makes for an interesting challenger and could be the one to take
the title from Gulak in a surprise.

Do you like the title match? Who leaves as champion? Let us know in the comments below.

(VIDEO): They Had Potential. Team Splits On SmackDown Live As A Big
    Storyline Takes A Twist.

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 11:17 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/potential-team-splits-smackdown-live-big-storyline-takes-twist/

They worked so well together. Teams come and go all the time in wrestling
and you never can tell when things are going to go south for what seems
like a good pairing. Ever since the Rockers’ split back in 1991, WWE has seemed more fixated on destroying a team rather than having them last for a long time. Another team seemed to come to an end this week and it was
    rather sudden.

This week on SmackDown Live, Roman Reigns showed a video that seemed to
show Erick Rowan helping in the forklift attack that almost took Reigns
out. Rowan’s partner Daniel Bryan yelled at Rowan and slapped him in the face while calling Rowan a liar. This seemed to dissolve their
partnership, while also announcing Rowan as at least one of Reigns’ attackers. Rowan and Bryan have been a team since January and held the SmackDown Tag Team Titles from May 7 until July 14 of this year.

So much for that. Check out the split and Reigns’ reaction:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This seems like something that might not be sticking as Rowan
tried to deny whatever was going on. Maybe there is something else to the footage or maybe Bryan was in on it as well, though you never can tell with something like this. The SmackDown Live tag team division needs all the
help that it can get so splitting the team up isn’t doing the division any favors. It might not stick though and the next twist could be interesting
    as well.

What did you think of the team? Are they done for good? Let us know in
    the comments below.

Chris Jericho is the World Champion that AEW Needs at All Out

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 05:34 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tomclark/chris-jericho-world-champion-aew-needs/

Chris Jericho will face Hangman Adam Page at AEW’s All Out on Saturday, August 31 in Chicago. The winner of that match will become the first-ever
AEW World champion and will reign over the new company, which will make its weekly TV debut on TNT in October.

This will not be the first time that Jericho has been in the main event spotlight of course and it will surely not be the last. However the same
cannot be said of Page, who is being groomed for a top spot in the company.
But while his time will come soon enough, Jericho’s time is now and he
should win it all on August 31.

Chris has been to the mountaintop of the industry on six different
occasions. All of those titles came in WWE of course, with the most notable
one being the industry’s first ever Undisputed World Championship. Very few gave Jericho a chance during that time and it had nothing to do with his ability in the ring.

WWE was rife with Hall of Fame talent at that time, including Stone Cold
Steve Austin and The Rock. But Jericho went over on both men in the same
night and was suddenly thrust into the spotlight as a result. The man that
once called WCW home was on top of the world in Vince McMahon’s company.

Listen to Hangman Pages words about Chris Jericho!

During his time in WWE, Jericho earned the respect of the locker room, as
well as the fans. They believed in him and they marveled at just how good
he was in the ring and on the mic. Chris understood the business and he
knew how to work it to his advantage. More importantly, he knew how to stay current and he did so by constantly reinventing himself.

Like David Bowie, Chris Jericho kept changing his style in order to remain relevant. He never depended on past accolades to get himself over and he didn’t want to be the outdated legend who refused to adapt. For Jericho, it was a case of evolve or die. Chris definitely chose the former every time.

But when his full-time WWE career began to go part-time, fans knew he would eventually be on his way. They didn’t want to see it happen, as he always seemed to improve with every refresh. However, Chris had outside interests
and those interests didn’t always coincide with WWE. Then there’s the fact that WWE wanted more of the same from him and Jericho was much more
    interested in doing something different.

Watch Jericho talk about transitioning from rockstar to wrestler!

He finally got the chance to do just that in New Japan Pro Wrestling, where
he once again transformed himself into another unique character. Jericho
wowed the Japanese fans and reminded the world of what he can do when he’s given a blank canvass. Chris is a creator and that was obvious when he
entered the Land of the Rising Sun. But it was his ascension as the top
force of AEW that truly has the wrestling world talking.

Chris is taking his position in the new company extremely seriously. He’s more focused than ever before and he’s determined to show WWE exactly what they missed by not giving him the creative input he’s earned. AEW has the benefit of a motivated Chris Jericho, which already puts that promotion
above many others in the business today. So why wouldn’t AEW put its first World Championship around Jericho’s waist?

The fact is that anything is possible and there’s really no way to know
what AEW Creative has planned. It could be that Hangman Page will be the
man to go over at All Out and if he does, then his feud with Jericho could truly explode from that point on. But if Page does win the title, then what happens next?

Is there a positive outcome of Hangman Page defeating Chris Jericho on
August 31? The Chicago crowd would surely be happy, especially since Page
has won over so many fans thanks to his own work in New Japan. Page is a likable character and he does have a tremendous upside. Investing in him
now is an investment for the future and he indeed looks ready to go.

Check out AEWs Road to All Out, Episode 7!

But longtime fans know that there’s rarely any benefit of a babyface champion. The real drama of the title lies in the chase and it’s much more intriguing when a babyface is the one on the hunt. A devious heel working
on top and ruling with an iron fist while calling his own shots is the
formula that keeps fans tuning in. Chris Jericho is that heel and this is
    his time to shine.

In the process, he will shine up Adam Page as well. Chris will make him
look better than he already does and Hangman will surely rise to the
occasion. Page he will show that he’s ready for the next level and Chris
will do his part on that journey. The only thing Adam needs is AEW’s full support to get there and if he gets it, the sky is the limit for him.

Chris Jericho brings a wealth of knowledge and a world of experience to
AEW. He’s still very capable of delivering on the worldwide stage and he
will do so once again on August 31. He is the top guy that AEW needs right
now and he will most definitely be the champion that it deserves.

So Soon? Local Advertisements Promoting A Pretty Surprising Challenger For Hell In A Cell On October 6.

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 05:04 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/soon-local-advertisements-promoting-pretty-surprising-challenger-hell-cell-october-3/

Isn’t that a little soon? Over the last few months, Bray Wyatt has been
one of the most talked about performers in all of WWE. With the mixture of
his Firefly Fun House and Fiend characters, it has been hard to look away
from him, no matter what he does. The things he has been doing in the ring have been second to none and now there is a chance that he is going to be
    doing something big.

The Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California is advertising Wyatt as the challenger for the Universal Title, held by either Braun Strowman or Seth Rollins, at Hell In A Cell in the show’s namesake match on October 6.
These advertisements are not always accurate, but there is a chance that
Wyatt will be returning to the ring and receiving a title shot. Wyatt has wrestled one televised match in a year, when he defeated Finn Balor at Summerslam.

Wyatt has been inside the Cell before. Check out his match with Roman
    Reigns in 2015:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I really don’t know about this. If Wyatt is in the match, he has
to win the title, period. You can’t take Wyatt, who is known for choking
in big matches, and put him in a match this big, and have him lose so soon after his return. That would cut the character’s legs off after all the months of build, which would be such a waste of time. WWE would do
something like that too and that would be the worst possible thing right
    now.

Do you want Wyatt to win the title? Will WWE let him do it? Let us know
    in the comments below.

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results - August 27, 2019

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 04:56 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/smackdown-live-coverage-results-august-27-2019/

    Smackdown

    Date: August 27, 2019

Location: Raising Cane’s River Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Commentators: Corey Graves, Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton

The first round of the King of the Ring wraps up tonight and it’s getting pretty clear that Raw is the favored side. The talent pool just feels
deeper over there as this show is going to include Shelton Benjamin getting
a first round match. Maybe that would have been interesting fifteen years
ago but it doesn’t quite work right now. Let’s get to it.

We open with the same video on Roman Reigns’ attacks that we saw last night.

Reigns promises a response to Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan in the ring
    tonight.

Here’s Kofi Kingston for a chat, but first we see a video on Randy Orton’s attacks since Summerslam. Kofi has heard Orton calling him stupid but who
got knocked out last week? Now Orton is trying to turn this personal and
he’s bringing in the Revival to help him out. That means Orton is seeing
the look when you mess with Kofi’s family so Kofi is ready for Clash Of Champions. Kofi starts the hip thrusts but Orton appears on screen to say STUPID over and over.

Earlier today, Orton was in his hotel room when someone knocked on his door
and slid a letter underneath. Normally he doesn’t reply to fan mail but
this one was different. It says that Orton is hurting Kofi and he needs to
stop hurting him every night. Kofi isn’t just his hero because Kofi is his daddy. It’s from Kofi’s son Kai, and Orton realized that he is staying in the same hotel as Kofi’s family. Maybe he should pay them a visit. Kofi charges to the back and the fight is on in the gorilla position, with Kofi getting hit with the hanging DDT onto the concrete. Kofi is out cold and
    medics are requested.

Post break, Big E. assures us that Kofi will be ready for Clash of
Champions but after his match with Orton tonight, Randy might not be.

Recap of the first round of the King of the Ring.
King of the Ring First Round: Ali vs. Buddy Murphy

The winner gets Elias next week. Ali starts fast with a running
hurricanrana to put Murphy on the floor. The running flip dive doesn’t work as Murphy catches him with a running knee to the face and we take an early break. Back with Ali catapulting him chest first into the corner and
hitting a pop up dropkick to put Murphy on the floor again.

Murphy is right back with a shot of his own and that means the big running
flip dive, which is quite the landing given Murphy’s size. Back in and Ali ducks the top rope Meteora, setting up the reverse hurricanrana for a close two. Murphy is right back with another knee to the face and a brainbuster
for two of his own. The fans deem this awesome as the slugout is on,
including Ali’s spinwheel kick. A tornado DDT from the apron back inside plants Murphy and Ali’s 450 is good for the pin at 9:09.

    Result: Ali b. Buddy Murphy 450 (9:09)

They do the big respectful handshake.

Ember Moon comes up to Bayley, who seems to be worried about Charlotte.
Moon doesn’t want to talk about Summerslam but also doesn’t want to hear about Charlotte being the face of the division. It’s all about bringing everyone up, so here’s Lacey Evans to say Bayley is bringing the title
    down. Bayley against Evans tonight.

Here’s the Miz to address Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn attacking him
last week. Nakamura is a champion and Sami is a hanger on who couldn’t make it in the ring himself. Nakamura may be the King of Strong Styles but Miz
is the man who made the Intercontinental Title relevant and he can do it
again. The challenge is made for Clash of Champions but here’s a laughing Sami to interrupt. Sami says Miz still doesn’t get it because he has liberated Nakamura.

Instead of the King of Strong Style, Miz is the King of Soft Style. Miz
throws out the challenge to face Sami right now but that’s a no. Miz goes after Sami but Nakamura jumps him from behind as Sami talks about how
awesome the artistry is. Kinshasa against the LED board leaves Miz laying. Sami: “AHAHAHAHA!” They get inside with Sami talking about Miz’s lack of respect for artistry, setting up another Kinshasa.

Kevin Owens comes in to see Shane McMahon but finds Elias playing the
guitar instead. There is no Shane tonight so Owens leaves.
    Bayley vs. Lacey Evans

Non-title. Lacey takes her time removing the glove but her cheap shot is blocked. An armbar doesn’t work very well for Bayley as Lacey slams her way out of it and kicks away in the corner. They head outside with Bayley
hitting a running clothesline but here’s Charlotte for a distraction.

Back from a break with Bayley hitting a middle rope crossbody but getting caught in a layout DDT. Lacey slams the arm onto the apron and the
slingshot Bronco Buster gets two. A dropkick to the back gives Bayley a breather and some clotheslines have Lacey rocked. An Indian Deathlock of
all things has Lacey….in the rope about two seconds later.

Lacey knocks her down again and hits a good looking spinning moonsault for
two. Charlotte is NOT impressed as Bayley goes outside and manages a suplex
off the barricade. Back in and Bayley gets more aggressive, including a
knee to the head. The Bayley to Belly gets two so Bayley hits it again and drops the top rope elbow for the pin at 14:28.

Result: Bayley b. Lacey Evans Top rope elbow (14:28)

Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan aren’t leaving until they get an apology from Reigns.
    Randy Orton vs. Big E.

Big E. isn’t playing and knocks Orton outside early on. Orton is thrown
into various things, including over the barricade. Back in and Big E. does
the spanking abdominal stretch. Some hard running clotheslines keep Orton
down as it’s completely one sided so far. Big E. misses the apron splash though, with his face bouncing off the apron in a nasty landing.

Orton drops him onto the announcers’ table and we take a break. Back with
Big E. dropping him onto the table to even things up and it’s time for the belly to belly suplexes. Cue the Revival for a distraction and cheap shot
from the floor, setting up the RKO to give Orton the pin at 8:43.

Result: Randy Orton b. Big E. RKO (8:43)

Post match Orton and the Revival hit the super RKO.

Chad Gable is ready for his King of the Ring match when Shelton Benjamin
comes up. Shelton can’t see him because he’s short.

We look at the weekend’s 24/7 Title shenanigans.

Elias is sitting on the throne and says none of the previous winners will
be able to wear the crown like he can. But what would a bunch of Louisiana people understand about that? Cue Owens to jump Elias and hit the Stunner
in the ring. Cue R-Truth to steal the title but Drake Maverick breaks it up
and gets the title for himself.
King of the Ring First Round: Shelton Benjamin vs. Chad Gable

The winner gets Andrade next week. Shelton hits a spinebuster for a very
early two and whips him hard into the corner for the same. One too many
short jokes wakes Gable up though and he hits a running flip neckbreaker. A scary looking German suplex drops Shelton on his head but he’s right back
up with a hard clothesline. Gable knocks him off the top but misses the moonsault, allowing Shelton to knee him in the face. Shelton’s powerbomb is countered into a very fast sunset flip for the pin at 3:43.

Result: Chad Gable b. Shelton Bejmain Sunset flip (3:43)

Here’s Roman Reigns for the apology to Bryan and Rowan. The two of them appear on screen with Bryan demanding his apology. We see a video of the forklift attack and Rowan is shown pushing some of the crates onto Roman.
Bryan slaps him in the face, shouting about how he hates liars. With Rowan gone, Bryan comes to the ring and says he trusted Rowan for almost the last year and now he has been betrayed. Bryan comes to the ring and says he
didn’t know what happened but it’s a spear to put him down to end the show.

    Results

    Ali b. Buddy Murphy – 450

Bayley b. Lacey Evans – Top rope elbow

    Randy Orton b. Big E. – RKO

Chad Gable b. Shelton Benjamin – Sunset flip

Do It Again. Championship Rematch Set For Clash Of Champions.

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:30 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/championship-rematch-set-clash-champions/

You had to get this one on there. In September, WWE will be presenting its annual Clash Of Champions pay per view, which will be featured around all
of the titles the company has to offer. That is quite a high number, as
the company has gone a little bit title crazy. There will be a lot of
titles on the line, but not very many of them have been set. One more has
    now been taken care of.

As announced on WWE.com, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will defend his title against Randy Orton at Clash Of Champions. The match has been teased for a
few weeks now, as Kingston vs. Orton went to a double countout at
Summerslam. Since then, the two have continued their feud, with the New
Day and the Revival getting involved. Clash Of Champions takes place on September 15.

The promos have been the best part. Check out Orton’s thoughts on Kingston: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This isn’t a surprise as the match was all but made over the last few weeks, but it is nice to have the match set up in advance of this
week’s SmackDown Live. There is no reason to waste television time on an obvious plot development so get it done in advance. The match could be
good, though it isn’t like they have much to top after a below average performance at Summerslam.

Who leaves with the title? Are you looking forward to the match? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Write It In Pen. What Is Planned For The Raw Tag Team Titles At Clash Of Champions?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:27 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/write-pen-planned-raw-tag-team-titles-clash-champions/

The more plans change. We are less than three weeks away from Clash Of Champions and the card is starting to take some shape. The show is built around all of the titles that WWE has, which is quite a number indeed. All
of the titles are only line throughout the show and that means champions
need to be in action. One person currently holds two titles, but is that
going to be the case at the show?

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins are likely to hold onto the Raw Tag Team Titles all the way until Clash Of Champions. The main selling point for the two of them has been both men wrestling twice in one night, meaning they are unlikely to drop the titles before the pay per view. Rollins and Strowman are scheduled to defend
their titles against Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode before facing off for
the Universal Title later that night.

The title match is a big deal. Check out how it was set up:

Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised at this as WWE doesn’t tend to make major changes to their pay per views with so little time before the show. Rollins vs. Strowman could be a good match, but at the same time I don’t
know how much of a draw it is to have the two of them wrestle twice in a
night. It cancels things out and unless something surprising happens in
the Tag Team Title match, it is little more than just something extra that happens.

Do you like the idea of the double match? Who will leave with the titles?

shape, and one particular wrestler has gotten in such good shape that WWE
    has noticed.

According to PWInsider Elite by way of 411mania.com, WWE officials are very pleased with Tucker’s recent weight loss and efforts to get in better
shape. There is no word on any potential heat on Tucker for his weight and fitness before he lost weight. Tucker and his partner Otis were in action
on this week’s Monday Night Raw, making it to the finals of a Tag Team Turmoil match.

The team did well this week. Check out some of the Tag Team Turmoil match: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s the kind of thing that always deserves some praise as it takes some effort to lose weight as a wrestler, or for anyone for that
matter. It isn’t easy to stay in shape on the road with all of the travel
