Nice To See You Again. WWE Makes Roster Change Permanent.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 08:36 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/nice-see-wwe-makes-roster-change-permanent/

There’s always room for one more. The WWE roster is changing in a variety
of ways at the moment, either through new names showing up or people moving from one show to another. That can make things a lot more interesting at times, but there are several other changes that can be either good or bad.
One such change has gone under the radar and it could be a good thing for everyone involved.

This week on NXT, Tyler Breeze announced that he would be sticking around
after Takeover: XXV. Breeze returned to NXT in May and challenged
Velveteen Dream for the North American Title, eventually losing to him at Takeover. The move comes after Breeze had spent the last three and a half years on the main roster, with his greatest success coming as part of Breezango, though his partner Fandango being injured has caused his career
    to stall.

Welcome home. Check out Breeze getting back in an NXT ring at Takeover:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Really, this is the best move for everyone involved. Breeze isn’t likely to become a top star in NXT again, but it’s a lot better than
sitting around on the main roster and getting the occasional match on Main Event. Let him at least go down to NXT where he can at least have a
chance, because that does not seem to be a realistic option on the main
roster for one reason or another.

Is Breeze better off in NXT? Will he ever be a success on the main
roster? Let us know in the comments below.

Some Fast Mind Changing. WWE Has Already Dropped An Idea To Fix Monday
    Night Raws Ratings.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 07:57 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/fast-mind-changing-wwe-already-dropped-idea-fix-monday-night-raws-ratings/

It feels like something is missing. Over the last few months, WWE has seen
the ratings and viewership for both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live
falling through the floor. Things are not going well at the moment and the change has clearly been noticed by WWE, as they have tried to change a
variety of things on their shows. However, one of them has already been dropped.

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the move to make the third hour of Monday Night Raw feel “grittier” has been dropped after two weeks. The change included darkening the lights and changing the
TitanTron, but the move was rarely referenced and little ever actually
changed. There is no word on why the change was dropped or if it will be brought up again.

This was how the grittier time started. Check out Mick Foley introducing
    the idea:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I don’t know where to start as there are so many memories to go through. Like that time where it was changed and nothing happened and then
it kept going and nothing happened. This was another idea that meant
nothing and wasn’t likely to have much of an impact in the first place, as WWE continues to look for the quick way out instead of putting in the
effort to make the shows that much better.

Did the change make any difference? What would make the show better? Let
us know in the comments below.

History Could Be Made. A Womens Match Could Be Taking Place At Super
    ShowDown.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 07:54 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/history-made-womens-match-taking-place-super-showdown/

That would be huge. This coming Friday, WWE is heading back to Saudi
Arabia for Super ShowDown. While the shows are very lucrative for WWE,
they are not without controversy, as the country does not have the greatest record when it comes to human rights. This includes a number of issues
with women having equal rights, though WWE may be doing something to move things even the slightest bit forward.

According to Prowrestlingsheet.com, both Natalya and Alexa Bliss are being
sent over to Saudi Arabia along with the male talent with the hopes that
the Saudi Arabia government will allow them to work a match. WWE has been working with Saudi Arabia for the chance to have the match take place and nothing has been announced yet. Bliss and Sasha Banks worked a match in
    Abu Dhabi last year.

WWE has made some history in this area before. Check out Bliss vs. Banks
in a first time ever event in a country:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’ll certainly believe this when I see it but this would be quite the moment for WWE. There are still several things that need to be accomplished in the country and this is about as insignificant of a move as
can be made, but it’s better than having the women stay back in the United States because they aren’t allowed to work on the show. Hopefully this works, but I’m not exactly optimistic.

Do you think the match will take place? How will it go if it does? Let us know in the comments below.

A Nice Starter. WWE Announces Super ShowDown Kickoff Show Match.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 07:09 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/nice-starter-wwe-announces-super-showdown-kickoff-show-match/

It just might not be enough. Later this week, WWE will be airing its third
pay per view event from Saudi Arabia. The show comes with its usual amount
of controversy, but there are still several wrestlers who will be working
the event. With so many names around the WWE roster, there is more than
enough talent to pick from and now another match has been added.

As announced on WWE.com, the Usos vs. the Revival has been added to the
Super ShowDown Kickoff Show. The Usos have been tormenting the Revival for several weeks, including doing various things to humiliate them. The
Revival defeated the Usos in their only recent match on the May 20 episode
of Monday Night Raw. Super ShowDown’s Kickoff Show takes place at 1pm EST
    on Friday afternoon.

Can you blame the Revival for being mad? Check out one of the things the
    Usos did to them:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not exactly sure how much this show needed a Kickoff Show
match but that’s the nature of WWE these days. What matters most is
getting the show done as the build has not been the strongest as everything feels like it’s being rushed together. Hopefully the show is a success and these four getting the time they need to have a good match could play a big part in doing so.

Are you looking forward to this match? Who will win? Let us know in the comments below.

Oh Dear. WWE Superstars Injury Far Worse Than Thought, To Miss A Long Time.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 07:05 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/oh-dear-wwe-superstars-injury-far-worse-thought-miss-long-time/

Ouch, in the worst way. WWE is currently undergoing a rash of injuries the likes of which they haven’t seen in a rather long time. Wrestlers are dropping like flies with one injury after another and everyone from big
names to lower names are being affected. You never know when one of these things is going to happen and as it turns out, they can even take place at
    a house show.

According to an Instagram Live video by way of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Mickie James has announced that she will be needing surgery to repair her ACL
after it was hurt in a match against Carmella on Saturday night. James
also said that she does not know when the surgery will be taking place or
how long she will be out, but it will be for “awhile”. Her most recent televised match came in the WrestleMania 35 Women’s Battle Royal.

She’s quite good when she’s healthy. Check out James vs. Asuka from 2018: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I know she hasn’t been on television much lately but James is someone who certainly has a lot of value to WWE. She’s the kind of person you can bring out and nearly guarantee at least a passable match as she can bring opponents up to a higher level. Hopefully the injury isn’t a full tear, which could put her out for nearly a year. If nothing else,
hopefully this isn’t it for her entire career.

What do you think of James? Will she ever win one more Women’s Title? Let us know in the comments below.

NXT Live Coverage And Results - June 5, 2019

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 04:58 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/nxt-live-coverage-results-june-5-2019/

    NXT

    Date: June 5, 2019

Location: Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport, Connecticut

Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Nigel McGuinness, Mauro Ranallo

It’s a special show this week as we get the mostly recap show from
Takeover. That’s fine as they haven’t had time to do a new set of tapings yet, but we’ll also have the two matches taped before the show. It might
not make for the best show in the world, but it’s a fine enough way to go about doing things until we can get to what really matters. Let’s get to it.

We open with a long recap of Takeover.

    Opening sequence.
    Keith Lee vs. Kona Reeves

Reeves goes for the arm to start and Lee isn’t all that impressed. A bigger wristlock sends Reeves bailing to the apron so Lee picks him up by one hand
and brings him back in. Lee lifts him over his head and Reeves tweaks his
knee on the way back down. The goldbricking lets Reeves get in a headbutt
and a running boot in the corner. That’s enough to knock Lee onto the apron and it’s a chinlock to keep Reeves in control.

Lee powers out of it so Reeves forearms him in the back of the head to cut
off the comeback. Some right hands just wake Lee up though and it’s time
for the left hands to put Reeves in trouble. Reeves gets in a quick Rock
Bottom for two but Lee is right back with a series of strikes to the face.
The big Pounce sets up the Limit Breaker for the pin at 6:10.

Result: Keith Lee b. Kona Reeves Limit Breaker (6:10)

We look at Shayna Baszler successfully defending the Women’s Title against
Io Shirai, who snapped after the match.

Shirai says she isn’t done with Baszler.

We look back at the four way ladder match with the Street Profits winning
the vacant Tag Team Titles in a pretty cool moment.

The Street Profits dedicated their win to hard work and dedication. They
even thank the cameraman, who has been here since day one.

We look back at Tyler Breeze vs. Velveteen Dream with Dream retaining the
North American Title.  They even took a selfie together.

Breeze says the match could have gone either way and he respects Dream. Hopefully Dream respects him too but what matters is that Breeze is back in
    NXT for good.

    Damien Priest is coming.
    Mia Yim vs. Bianca Belair

Belair takes her down to start with ease so Mia does the same thing to her.
Mia misses an armdrag and Bianca stands on her hand while doing that
abysmal catchphrase. A running faceplant drops Mia again and it’s time for the abdominal stretch to slow Yim down.

There’s a tilt-a-whirl gutbuster for two and it’s a bow and arrow to stay on the ribs. Belair drops down onto Mia’s back and even messes with the
hair. Another drop lands on Mia’s raised knees but Bianca is right back
with another running faceplant. The back is bent around the post but Mia
pulls Belair shoulder post into the post to even things up.

Mia rolls Belair into the steps, followed by Code Blue for two back inside. Belair is back up and ties her hair around her head so Mia can’t pull it, only to have Mia get in the guillotine choke. That’s broken up so Belair takes her into the corner, only to get caught with the Protect Ya Neck off
the middle rope for the pin at 10:39.

Result: Mia Yim b. Bianca Belair Protect Ya Neck (10:39)

Drew Gulak doesn’t like that Marty McFly wannabe (Gulak: “Everybody knows Biff is the hero of the movie!”) showing off around here. Now he wants a submission match with Kushida. The match is set for next week.

Also next week: Undisputed Era vs. Oney Lorcan/Danny Burch.

A long video on Adam Cole taking the NXT Title from Johnny Gargano ends the show.

    Results

Keith Lee b. Kona Reeves – Limit Breaker

Mia Yim b. Bianca Belair – Protect Ya Neck

    NXT UK Results - June 5, 2019

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 02:51 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/nxt-uk-results-june-5-2019/

    NXT UK

    Date: June 5, 2019

    Location: Braehead Arena, Glasgow, Scotland

    Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph

We’re still in Glasgow and it’s another big night with the fatal four way to crown a new #1 contender. That’s quite the interesting match and most of the people involved are conceivable winners. Other than that we now have Imperium looming over the rest of the roster and that could get interesting
in a hurry. Let’s get to it.

The opening video looks at the four way and how all four (Joe Coffey,
Jordan Devlin, Dave Mastiff and Travis Banks) qualified.

    Opening sequence.
The Hunt vs. Tyson T-Bone/Saxon Huxley

Huxley can’t do much with Wild Boar, who growls at him and fires off some forearms. A Thesz press gives Huxley a breather and it’s off to Wild Boar
vs. T-Bone. Boar gets over for the tag though and it’s Primate coming in
for some screaming. A Cannonball to Huxley brings Boar back in for a powerbomb/German suplex combination, followed by a double Swan Dive for the
    pin on Huxley at 3:41.

Result: The Hunt b. Tyson T-Bone/Saxon Huxley Double Swan Dive to Huxley (3:41)

Post match Wolfgang and Mark Coffey come out and jump the Hunt. Wolfgang
goes over to commentary to yell at Nigel as the Hunt is left laying.
Kay Lee Ray vs. Kasey Owens

The fans chant ICW as Ray forearms away to start but charges into a boot in
the corner. Owens’ over the ropes armbar is blocked with a kick to the back and a dropkick makes it even worse. Owens gets in some strikes of her own
but misses a running kick and gets slapped in the chest. A Gory Bomb
    finishes Owens at 3:57.

Result: Kay Lee Ray b. Kasey Owens Gory Bomb (3:57)

Video on Imperium, who wants to destroy British Strong Style.

Video on Jazzy Gabbert destroying Xia Brookside last week.

Jinny says she got Jazzy to help her because she paid her off. She could
either fight Jazzy or befriend her because Jinny is more than just a pretty face.

Here are the Grizzled Young Veterans with something to say. Zack Gibson was told not to come out here but he has something to say. They are the first
NXT UK Tag Team Champions and now they’re having to defend the titles at
the Download Festival. Gibson: “IS THIS A RIB???” Johnny Saint wants Gibson to walk through an ugly field in his custom boots to defend these titles
while horrible bands like Slipknot ruin music? They are the NXT UK Tag Team Champions so they need some respect. If they’re unhappy, the rest of the locker room will be unhappy. That’s bad for morale, so old man Saint needs
    to figure it out.

Moustache Mountain are in Men’s Health UK.

Next week, British Strong Style vs. Imperium.
Jordan Devlin vs. Dave Mastiff vs. Travis Banks vs. Joe Coffey

One fall to a finish. Coffey shouts that this is his kingdom and it’s Banks vs. Devlin fighting on the floor early on. Coffey and Mastiff hit shoulders that send them outside. That works so well that they do it again a few
times on the floor. Banks goes after Mastiff and gets thrown into the barricade, allowing Mastiff and Coffey to collide again. Devlin gets thrown down too and everyone is on the floor.

It’s Banks hammering away at Devlin back inside but managing to kick at Coffey as well. Running elbows in the corner have the villains in trouble
and Devlin is thrown head first into Coffey’s crotch. Mastiff comes back in to start throwing people around but Coffey blocks the rolling German
suplexes. Devlin takes them instead but Coffey manages to powerslam
Mastiff. Just to show off, Coffey throws Banks on his shoulders and reverse giant swings Devlin at the same time.

There’s a double underhook swing to Devlin but he sends Coffey shoulder
first into the post. Some stomping keeps Coffey down and Devlin even
manages to take out the invading Banks. A backbreaker keeps Banks down but Devlin makes the mistake of mocking Coffey’s pose. Now guess who pops up right behind him. Actually it would be Coffey and Mastiff, who knock him
around with some forearms. Coffey’s running headbutt to the ribs hits the buckle though and Mastiff’s German suplex gets two on Banks.

Devlin comes back in and gets knocked into the corner as well for a
Cannonball from Mastiff. That’s broken up at two so Banks hits the running Spanish Fly for two on Devlin. Coffey’s top rope spinning crossbody crushes Mastiff and it’s All The Best For The Bells for two more on Devlin. The big guys get knocked to the floor though and it’s the Slice of Heaven into the Kiwi Crusher to give Banks the pin at Devlin at 12:15.

Result: Travis Banks b. Jordan Devlin, Dave Mastiff and Joe Coffey Kiwi Crusher to Devlin (12:15)

    The fight for what matters:

WWE To Bring Back Aspects Of The Attitude Era?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 10:51 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/derekstoughton/wwe-bring-back-aspects-attitude-era/

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley was recently interviewed by Talk Sport, where
he shared an interesting piece of information. He said that the company is looking to bring back elements of the Attitude Era in the third hour of
    Monday Night Raw.

Below is the quote from the article:
“The idea is that the third hour is going to get rougher, wilder, and more unpredictable,” Foley said. “When I was GM, I knew that people were breaking towards the SmackDown show because it was the darling of the Internet.”
“The idea was ‘why don’t you try [having] a third hour.’ It was like a giant albatross around your neck. The third hour is really difficult. I
think it’s an idea to have the third hour more unpredictable and more like the Attitude Era.”

Check out a clip from last weeks show that may hint at this:
[This post contains video, click to play]

    Editors Thoughts:

I think that WWE has subtly been hinting at this for the past few weeks.
With the debut of the 24/7 Championship, that is similar to the Hardcore Championship, along with darkening the arena for the third hour of the
show, this idea might be as far fetched as one might think.

Full Breakdown of Jon Moxleys IWGP U.S. Title Win over Juice Robinson
    (VIDEO)

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 07:54 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tomclark/full-breakdown-jon-moxleys-iwgp-u-s-title-win-juice-robinson-video/

Jon Moxley is the new IWGP United States champion. Mox won the title from
Juice Robinson on June 5 at New Japan’s Best of the Super Junior finals in Ryogoku. This was the former Shield founder’s first match in New Japan and
he most certainly delivered on the hype.

Fans expected a brawl and that’s exactly what they got. Robinson had been haunted by a video that replayed several times over the past couple of
months and it was obvious that someone was coming in to challenge him for
the title. But no one could have known it was Jon Moxley.

But Jon’s Japanese presence is now a reality, as is the fire he brought to the match with Juice. The two men had something to prove on the worldwide
stage and for many fans, this match stole the show. As this bout unfolded,
it became clear that Moxley was in his element and that Robinson is indeed
    a top guy.
    THE MATCH

Moxley’s entrance video was broadcast on the big screen, showing him
escaping from prison and also hanging out at a bar. The video was a
combination of the one released on Jon’s Twitter account and the one that’s teased his debut in New Japan.

As the hard guitar riff rang out over the loudspeakers, Mox made his traditional Shield entrance though the audience. But these were not the American fans who cheered for Dean Ambrose. This was a new set of fans; men
and women that knew exactly who Jon Moxley was in his previous life.

Watch Moxleys entrance in New Japan!

The man now known as The Death Rider came down to the ring full of
intensity and he brought every ounce of that intensity down on Juice
Robinson, who had shorn his trademark dreadlocks. The two men fought in the crowd, delivering the fight that Robinson promised it would be.

Moxley opened a cut over Juice’s left eye, which added just the right
amount of drama to the match. Mox tried a table spot after slamming
Robinson with a steel chair, but the table did not break at first. So Jon suplexed Juice through the table instead, which led to a near cont-out. But this match was not over yet.

Moxley hit a full release suplex, which brought a stunned reaction from the capacity crowd. Jon continued on the attack and locked Juice in Bret Hart’s signature Figure-4 on the ringpost. The match was only 15 minutes old at
this point, though it felt much longer. Robinson finally began mounting a comeback, selling the brutality of the match every step of the way.

But Juice’s momentum was short-lived as Mox was back to his feet and on the attack once again. The fans even began chanting for Jon, despite seeing
their favorite star Juice Robinson taking the brunt of the physicality.
Juice finally fired up and stood toe-to-toe with Moxley, trading punches
until both men ended up on the floor once again.

Moxley went for a second table and leaned it up on the ringside barrier.
But before he could utilize it, Robinson hit him with the Left Hand of God. Juice took his time, contemplating his next move. Suddenly he hit a running flip on Mox, but the table remained in one piece. However this did not
deter Juice, who yelled “I’m breaking this motherf****r!”

Juice did exactly that and power-bombed Jon through the table. The crowd
was firmly on Juice’s side now, as he threw Moxley into the ring and tried
to submit The Death Rider in a Boston Crab. But Jon locked in a Cloverleaf
and now it was Robinson who was in trouble. The crowd began cheering for
Juice again and the champ finally escaped the hold.

Juice hit another LHOG, then went for Pulp Friction, but Mox reversed it. Robinson nearly got the pin but Jon kicked out and Juice began to fire up
one more time. But Jon hit his trademark Double Arm DDT, once known as
Dirty Deeds. The crowd sensed it was over but Juice kicked out. But
Robinson was on his way out, as Moxley hit an elevated DDT, lifting
Robinson up off the mat and crashing back down. Jon got the pin and the
    IWGP United States Championship.

The audience was split on their reaction, as they fully realized one of the company’s top babyfaces had actually lost to an outsider. But as Mox took a bow to all sides in the ring, those same fans surely understood that The
Death Rider will now become part of their pro wrestling vocabulary. Jon
Moxley is here and it’s a new day for him, as well as New Japan.

    THE ANALYSIS

But how long will he be there? Jon is of course signed with AEW and he’s on his way to face Joey Janela at the company’s Fyter Fest event on June 29. However, Moxley is being allowed to take bookings outside of AEW until the company hits the TNT Network this fall. That means Jon Moxley could
conceivably compete in New Japan for the next two to three months.

Mox definitely brings a new flavor to New Japan and that’s a good thing. He’s also a shot in the arm for the company, which of course regularly features American stars on top. But Jon is something different and he
stands out from every Westerner that’s helped bring NJPW to the states thus far.

So what does the future hold for Jon Moxley in AEW? Chris Jericho, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes are the top four stars of the men’s division right now. But Moxley must be considered on that short list
already. His WWE past is behind him now and it will always be a huge part
    of his story.

But Jon is starting over and it could not have come at a better time.
Moxley is back on his game and he’s anxious to prove just how good he is. More importantly, he’s hungry and it shows every time he’s on camera. Jon Moxley is the hottest star in the pro wrestling business right now and there’s definitely much more to come.
