RUMOR: Give Them A Star. This Monday Night Raw Segment Received Strong Backstage Praise.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 10:38 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/give-star-monday-night-raw-segment-received-strong-backstage-praise/

Any praise is better than none. WWE has been in a state of transition over
the last few weeks with the end of the summer and the real starts to the
Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff eras on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. These changes have been up and down with the new shows mostly being
received positively, though with some fixes still to be made. One segment
in particular of this week’s show received some praise though.

According to Fightful Select by way of Ringsidenews.com, the Monday Night
Raw segment featuring Randy Orton and the Revival attacking New Day and injuring Xavier Woods’ knee was well received backstage. While there is no word on who in particular was happy with the segment, this week’s show was run by Triple H, Paul Heyman and Kevin Dunn as Vince McMahon was working on
XFL business, meaning they would be likely candidates.

I’d say it’s worth a look. Check out the well received angle:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m glad the angle was well received as it deserved some praise. That was an angle that has been done before but can play into both stories
at the same time. You can all but guarantee a pair of Clash of Champions matches from the segment, which means it was some pretty effective storytelling. That’s something WWE can always use more of and this helped
    it get there very well.

Did you like the segment? What do you see happening at the pay per view?

(WATCH): Case Closed? Daniel Bryan And Rowan Roman Reigns Attacker..And
Its Not Who You Would Guess.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 10:35 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-case-closed-daniel-bryan-rowan-roman-reigns-attacker-not-guess/

Mystery solved? Things have gotten a bit more interesting over the last
few weeks in WWE, with one of the bigger stories over the year starting to
take shape. That would be the question of who has been trying to attack
Roman Reigns, who has survived someone trying to attack him with both a forklift and a car. Daniel Bryan and Rowan have been searching and had
    their conclusion this week.

This week on SmackDown Live, Bryan and Rowan unveiled the man they said did
it, an unnamed man who happened to look quite a bit like Rowan himself,
even down to the long red beard. This was the result of Buddy Murphy
accusing Rowan of being the attacker, a claim which he later recanted.
Murphy faced and defeated Bryan in a singles match on SmackDown Live.

I don’t think this is what was expected. Check out the reveal of the attacker:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I don’t think it’s any secret that this is likely a red herring to move the story forward towards its ultimate goal. There’s nothing wrong
with that though as there is no need to rush the story for the sake of
having a match take place at the next pay per view if they aren’t to that point yet. Let the story go in a natural direction and see how much better
    it can be.

What did you think of the reveal? Who will be the real attacker? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Filling In Some Gaps. More Details On NXT To USA, Including Money,
    Commentary And Overall Feel.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 10:31 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/filling-gaps-details-nxt-usa-including-money-commentary-overall-feel/

Those pesky little details. Over the last week or two, the biggest story
in wrestling has been the future of NXT, which was pretty clearly going to
be moving somewhere. The announcement came down on Tuesday with news of
NXT moving to the USA Network for a two hour live show every week starting
on September 28. With such a big move, several details still need to be addressed.

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, the show will feature the same format and “workrate-focused” style that NXT has been known for over the last several years. In addition to this, NXT commentator Mauro Ranallo has announced
that he will be staying on as commentator. Ranallo originally left WWE
over the issue of dealing with live television, including bullying from
John Bradshaw Layfield. Finally, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE will be making at least $50 million a year on the deal.

One more time for the kids in the back (& because Twitter can never take
things at face value) I WILL BE ANNOUNCING @WWENXT ON @USA_Network EVERY WEDNESDAY AT @FullSail Now back to your regularly scheduled trol-I mean tweeting.????? #NXTOnUSA

    - Mauro Ranallo (@mauroranallo) August 20, 2019

WWE has made the announcement themselves. Check out the video announcement: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This sounds like a relief, but you never know how fast things can change in this kind of a move. There is a chance that WWE and/or USA could
be unhappy with the audience that the show is drawing and decide to beef
them up with more main roster style booking. Maybe that won’t happen, but
I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that happen down
    the line.

What do you expect from NXT on USA? How long will the traditional format
last? Let us know in the comments below.

(VIDEO): I Wouldnt Have Bet On That. A Surprising New Team Forms On
    SmackDown Live.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 10:28 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-wouldnt-bet-surprising-new-team-forms-smackdown-live/

A pair to draw from? Wrestlers have a tendency to get together for various reasons. Some of these might be better than others, but there is no
denying that it happens a lot and isn’t likely to change anytime soon. It helps a lot as well as putting two or more wrestlers together can give them both something to do, which can get them out of mediocrity in a hurry.
With some luck, that might be the case again.

This week on SmackDown Live, Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura unveiled a new partnership. Zayn was a guest on MizTV and said that he was looking for
his path to redemption, which will involve helping people. The first
person he wanted to help was Nakamura, who Zayn helped with a beatdown of
Miz. Zayn and Nakamura have a history together, as Zayn was Nakamura’s
first opponent in NXT in 2016.

It’s a pretty strange pairing. Check out Nakamura and Zayn getting
    together:

[This post contains video, click to play] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxiEIKNzNAY

Opinion: This is something that could work out well in the long and short
term. Nakamura has been held back in WWE, partially due to his lack of
promo skills. Zayn is an excellent talker and having him as Nakamura’s mouthpiece is a good use of him. It’s certainly better than having him
lose match after match so at least he’s getting to do something positive
    for a change.

Do you like the pairing? How far can the team go? Let us know in the
    comments below.

Here They Go. First Title Match Set For Clash Of Champions.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 06:29 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/go-first-title-match-set-clash-champions/

Back to the title picture. There are some names that you just know are
going to be involved in almost every story involving a specific title. It
just comes with the territory in modern wrestling and one of those titles
is the SmackDown Women’s Title. While Bayley has held the title for a few months now, it seems that we have just been waiting for her to get back to
a certain challenger. Now we wait no longer.

This week on SmackDown Live, Charlotte challenged Bayley for a SmackDown Women’s Title match at Clash of Champions with Bayley accepting. Bayley
won the title from Charlotte by cashing in her Money in the Bank contract
at Money in the Bank, mere minutes after Charlotte won the championship in
the first place. Both of Bayley’s Women’s Title reigns have come in wins over Charlotte.

We’ve been here before. Check out Bayley vs. Charlotte from earlier this year:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: You knew this one was coming as Charlotte is just there every
single time. I really hope she doesn’t get the title back as I don’t know how many more times I can see her win the thing. Charlotte has been around
for about four years now and is a nine time Women’s Champion. We’re way past the point where it means anything to see her win it again but odds are that’s what we’re coming up on.

Will Charlotte win the title? Who should take it away from Bayley? Let us know in the comments below.

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results - August 20, 2019

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:56 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/smackdown-live-coverage-results-august-20-2019/

    Smackdown

    Date: August 20, 2019

Location: Denny Sanford Premier Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, David Otunga

It’s Smackdown’s turn to do King of the Ring as we’re getting two more first round matches tonight. Last night’s pair of matches were pretty good
so maybe Smackdown can keep up the pace. Other than that we get to find out
who was behind the attack on Roman Reigns, or at least who Daniel Bryan and Rowan say it is. Let’s get to it.

Here’s Randy Orton to open things up. After a clip from last night’s attack on the New Day, Orton talks about Kofi cheating to get out of a fight with
him at Summerslam. But Kofi isn’t done yet because Kofi is stupid. Last
night was fun but here’s New Day’s music, with Kofi sneaking in from behind with Trouble in Paradise to drop Orton. Kofi grabs a chair and wraps it
around Orton’s ankle but here’s the Revival for the save. That’s fine with
Kofi, who cleans house with the chair as the villains run.

Long video on the Roman Reigns attacks. More on this tonight.

    NXT to USA announcement.

Kevin Owens comes in to see Shane McMahon, who wants to talk about the
$100,000 fine. He’s had a week to think about it and now he knows how bad this is. They’re not from the same background and while $100,000 is nothing to Shane, it means his kids’ future. Shane will take it under advisement. King of the Ring First Round: Andrade vs. Apollo Crews

Crews clotheslines him down at the bell to start (a trend in the tournament
so far) but gets sent into the corner. The running knees in the corner rock Crews but he’s fine enough to dropkick Andrade out of the air. They head outside with a hurricanrana sending Crews into the steps as we take a break.

Back with Apollo hitting a pop up uppercut and grabbing an Angle Slam for
two. Andrade kicks him away but misses more running knees in the corner. An enziguri into the standing sets up a standing shooting star press for two. Crews goes to pull him away from the ropes but Vega grabs the leg, allowing Andrade to hit the spinning elbow to the head. The hammerlock DDT finishes Crews at 9:53.

Result: Andrade b. Apollo Crews Hammerlock DDT (9:53)

Daniel Bryan and Rowan bring a man whose head is covered with a towel into
a locker room. He’s sat in a chair and told not to move under the threat of implied violence.

Elias is in the back and finds the disguised referee. A bit of a threat
shows that Drake Maverick is hiding in a case, so Elias opens it up and
grabs him by the throat. Elias makes him read a letter but grabs him by the throat. Drake: “To whom it may….do you mind?” Shane has suspended the 24/7
Rules for the night so Elias can win his King of the Ring match. Drake is placed back in the case.

It’s time for A Moment of Bliss with Alexa saying that even though they’re champions, the show will not change. It’s still going to be the show for
the downtrodden and people beneath them, because it’s for everyone. Tonight’s guest is Charlotte, who thinks she should be sitting on the King
of the Ring throne. Charlotte is the face of the Smackdown women’s
division, though Bliss thinks it might be Bayley. It’s true that Bayley is champion but Charlotte is marketable. Can you imagine Bayley on a red
carpet with her side ponytail? The division is an afterthought because
    Bayley is an afterthought.

Cue Bayley to say she’s tired of hearing the same things. It sounds like a bunch of excuses coming from Charlotte because Bayley is still champion.
That means she’s better than Charlotte, which has to eat her up inside. Charlotte isn’t buying it because her match with Trish Stratus was all
anyone was talking about at Summerslam. Bayley accepts a challenge for
Clash of Champions and shoves Charlotte out of the chair. Charlotte gives
    her shocked face.

Roman Reigns comes in to see Buddy Murphy and wants to know who he’s lying to. Murphy says he’s telling the truth about Rowan, so Reigns threatens him with violence if he’s lying again.
    Daniel Bryan vs. Buddy Murphy

Rowan is here with Bryan, meaning someone is just sitting back there
quietly in a locker room. Hold on though as Bryan calls Buddy a liar and promises to show Murphy was involved in the attacks as well. Bryan knees
him in the face for two at the bell but Bryan is back up with the kicks in
the corner. A bite to the face keeps Murphy down and Bryan slaps him while calling him a liar. Murphy doesn’t take kindly to that and sends Bryan to
the floor for the big flip dive.

Back from a break with Murphy hitting a missile dropkick, followed by the
top rope Meteora. Bryan is right back with the LeBell Lock, which he then switches into Rings of Saturn to make it even worse. The leg is pulled back
but Murphy slips out and gets his foot in the rope for the break. The fans
are behind Buddy here as Bryan kicks away and tells him to stay down.

As you might have guessed, the big one misses but Bryan ties him in the
Tree of Woe for more kicks. Bryan scores with a running baseball slide and
a belly to back superplex gets two. Buddy is right back with a Cheeky
Nandos kick into a running sitout powerbomb for two of his own. The running knee is countered into some strikes to Bryan’s face and a brainbuster gets two. Murphy has to superkick Rowan off the apron before hitting the big
knee, followed by Murphy’s Law for the huge upset at 13:24.

Result: Buddy Murphy b. Daniel Bryan Murphys Law (13:24)

Post break Murphy is about to be interviewed when Bryan and Rowan run up
and attack him. Bryan keeps calling him a liar as Rowan crushes him with a boot.

Here’s a banged up Revival for a match but first they yell about New Day being cowards just like everyone here is for cheering the beating. They
know Xavier Woods is still limping out of Minnesota but they want a
Smackdown Tag Team Title match. Cue their opponents.
    Heavy Machinery vs. Revival

Tucker is smart by going with a bearhug on Wilder’s injured ribs. Revival gets sent outside in a hurry and we take a break. Back with Tucker swinging
his arms to get out of a chinlock but getting taken down again by Dawson.
The middle rope elbow misses though and it’s the hot tag off to Otis. House is cleaned with Otis dropping the Caterpillar on Dawson. Tucker gets the
Thesz Press on Dawson but Wilder gets an Oklahoma Roll to pin Tucker at
    6:04.

Result: Revival b. Heavy Machinery Oklahoma roll to Tucker (6:04)

Chad Gable is used to being an underdog in the tournament because he’s been an underdog his entire life. As he is talking, Shelton Benjamin, his
opponent in the first round next week, puts a sign on a door. Gable is
ready to win next week and goes towards the locker room, with the sign
saying “you must be this tall to participate in the King of the Ring Tournament.” Gable: “Funny.”

It’s time for MizTV with Sami Zayn as guest. Sami says he doesn’t care about the show because last night, he finally saw things clearly. Last
night he found out why people like Miz always get caught up in the trap. It
is the WWE trap of greed and the only path to redemption is to help other people. Yeah he’s one of the greatest alive today but there are so many people who need his help. Miz: “Like who?” Sami brings out Shinsuke Nakamura of all people, giving Miz a look like he just drank some
    surprisingly sour lemonade.

Miz asks Nakamura what he can get out of this but Sami calls Miz out for
asking him in English. Sami talks about Nakamura being an artist and a poet
who is being held back. That’s something Sami can understand and from here
on out, Nakamura does not need to feel that pain. Miz asks Nakamura what is going on but Nakamura points to Sami. That’s enough of a distraction for Nakamura to lay Miz out, setting up Kinshasa to leave Miz laying.

Bryan and Rowan go in to see their mystery man and it’s time to hear what
    he did. Or later apparently.

Owens comes in to see Shane again because Shane remembers what he needed to
say earlier. It occurred to Shane that Owens had never apologized for
attacking Elias so Owens apologizes. Shane is reconsidering the fine but if Owens ever puts his hands on another official, he is fired. Owens offers a handshake but Shane isn’t there yet.
King of the Ring First Round: Elias vs. Kevin Owens

Non-title. Elias’ music now has his catchphrase at the start and sounds
like him singing. Owens doesn’t waste time in clotheslining him out to the floor but Elias walks away before the big flip dive. A whip sends Owens
into the barricade but he’s right back with the Cannonball for two. Cue
Shane to watch from ringside as we take a break. Back with Elias holding a chinlock and throwing in a rake to the eyes for a bonus. Owens fights up
and gets caught with a jumping knee to the face for two.

The chinlock goes on again but Owens gets out even faster this time,
setting up a DDT. A middle rope dropkick sets up the backsplash for a quick two. The pop up powerbomb is broken up and Elias hits an electric chair
into a sitout powerbomb. Elias can’t hit a superplex as Owens knocks him
down but the Swanton hits knees. Owens is right back to knock Elias outside
for a flip dive off the apronand it’s Shane pulling off his shirt to reveal
a referee shirt. Shane slides in as Owens’ Stunner is blocked, allowing
Elias to grab a rollup with Shane counting a very fast pin at 13:12.

Result: Elias b. Kevin Owens Rollup with a fast count (13:12)

Reigns comes in to see Bryan and Rowan to find out who is under the hood.
The hood comes off and it’s….someone who looks like Rowan plus twenty years. Nothing is said to end the show.

    Results

Andrade b. Apollo Crews – Hammerlock DDT

Buddy Murphy b. Daniel Bryan – Murphy’s Law

Revival b. Heavy Machinery – Oklahoma roll to Tucker

Elias b. Kevin Owens – Rollup with a fast count

One More For The Road. Heres What Happened After Monday Night Raw.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 08:45 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/one-road-heres-happened-monday-night-raw/

They’re not done yet. Monday Night Raw is already a long wrestling show
with three hours of television every single week. That can cause a lot of issues for WWE as they have a lot of time to fill in. There are only so
many things that can be done to cover the entire show but since WWE has so
many wrestlers to spare, they have some options to pick from. Sometimes though, some of those wrestlers are used after the show is over.

According to Wrestlinginc.com, the post Monday Night Raw dark match saw Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch successfully defending her title against Lacey Evans. Lynch had appeared earlier in the show in a backstage segment while Evans did not appear on the show. Evans has not had a match outside of
Main Event since she main evented Extreme Rules over a month ago.

The two have done this before. Check out one of their rather intense
    brawls:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I don’t remember the last time I’ve seen someone fall as fast as Evans. I know she hadn’t been in the ring that long to start but after Extreme Rules, everything has fallen through the floor and is lucky to make Main Event these days. It’s clear that Sasha Banks is going to be the next challenger for the title but you would think that they could come up with something better for Evans than just completely dropping her.

What is next for Evans? Who will take the title from Lynch? Let us know
    in the comments below.

Breaking: WWE Officially Announces NXT Moving To USA, Full Details Included

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 08:23 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/breaking-wwe-officially-announces-nxt-moving-usa-full-details-included/

And there it is. Over the last week, it has become clear that NXT will be moving over to the USA Network at some point. Thanks to AEW debuting on
TNT for two hours every week on October 2, WWE was going to have to do something to fight back. The move sounds interesting for the company but
not so much for NXT fans. There was no announcement on this week’s Monday Night Raw but things were updated the next morning.

On Tuesday morning, WWE sent out an email announcing that NXT will be
moving to the USA Network, starting on September 18. The show will be expanding to two hours and airing live. The shows will then air again on
the WWE Network on Thursday nights at 8pm. Takeovers will continue to air
live on WWE Network as usual. As announced on WWE.com, the show will still take place at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.

You can see some great stuff on there. Check out an instant classic from earlier this year on NXT:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: You knew this was coming and that doesn’t make things much
better. I’m scared of what this is going to mean for NXT as you can tell that things are going to change. The best part about NXT was how things didn’t feel like the main roster shows, but now it’s going to be more along the lines of those shows. At least it’s still in Full Sail, which could
help things a bit. Still though, I’m not exactly thrilled with the possibilities.

Do you like the move? How well will NXT perform against AEW? Let us know
