Its A Unique Privilege. Which Other WWE Superstar Has Creative Freedom On Promos?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 08:58 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/unique-privilege-wwe-superstar-creative-freedom-promos/

That’s a special kind of freedom. One of the biggest criticisms of WWE is that their wrestlers are not allowed to cut their own promos. More often
than not, a wrestler will have a promo either written for them word for
word or will be heavily scripted. Every now and then though you will have
a wrestler who is allowed a lot more freedom with what they say. Another
star has been granted that privilege.

Ali was recently interviewed by Barnburner.ca and talked about his unique promos, which are often shot on location and seem to be filmed either with
a phone or with a handheld camera. Due to some unspecified clashes with
the WWE creative team, Ali films his vignettes on his own and brings them
in, meaning that he has more creative control and freedom over what he says than most wrestlers. Ali has been feuding with Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in recent weeks, even pinning him in a non-title match.

These are very unique. Check out one of Ali’s promos:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’ve been a fan of Ali for a long time now so it’s nice to see him getting this kind of special treatment. The creative process in WWE has
been a problem for a long time now and having something like this is a
great way to freshen things up a bit. Having the same people writing all
of the promos for everyone means you have the same voices about everything
and that isn’t a good thing.

Do you like Ali’s promos? Who else should be allowed to write their own material? Let us know in the comments below.

The Wrestling World. WWE Announces NXT Stars For Progress Wrestling Event.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 08:53 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/wrestling-world-wwe-announces-nxt-stars-progress-wrestling-event/

Share the wealth. Earlier this summer, WWE surprised some fans by having
their stars appear at the Evolve Tenth Anniversary show, which also aired
live on the WWE Network. The move allowed a lot of people to see Evolve
for the first time and also helped boost up WWE a bit. The move showed
that WWE was willing to work with smaller promotions and now they are doing
    so again.

As announced on WWE.com, NXT stars Matt Riddle and Keith Lee will be
appearing at the upcoming Progress Wrestling event on September 15. The
duo will be facing NXT UK and Progress regulars Moustache Mountain (Tyler
Bate and Trent Seven) in a tag match at Progress Chapter 95: Still
Chasing. Both Riddle and Lee have wrestled for Progress over the years,
with Riddle being a two time Atlas Champion.

WWE has worked with Progress before. Check out a Cruiserweight Classic qualifying match from Progress:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is one of those cool things that you get with modern
wrestling and another case where both sides benefit. WWE isn’t going to
hut themselves by helping out a smaller promotion and Progress gets a big
boost out of having some big names from NXT on their show. It’s a case
that benefits everyone and I could certainly go for something like this in
    the future.

Do you like the idea of WWE working with Progress? Who else should they
work with? Let us know in the comments below.

One More Time? Edge Says That He Could Wrestle One More Match.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 08:50 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/one-time-edge-says-wrestle-one-match/

The hope continues. Last year, Daniel Bryan shocked the wrestling world by receiving full clearance to return to the ring. Not only did Bryan come
back to the ring, but he even won the WWE Championship and defended it at WrestleMania 35. The surprise gave fans hope that it could happen with
others, and after something that happened at Summerslam, a certain name is
    on the fans’ minds.

In a recent episode of EC’s Pod Of Awesomeness, Edge talked about spearing Elias at Summerslam and says that he feels like he could have a match “tomorrow”. Edge also said that a doctor told him that his neck could be relatively healthy after five years of rest, though it is not clear if that means five years from today or five years after he initially retired. He
is also looking into stem cell therapy to heal his neck and believes he
could wrestle once, though not on a full time basis. At the moment, there
is no word on WWE allowing Edge to wrestle again after he retired due to
his neck injury eight years ago.

It was a long time ago. Check out Edge’s retirement speech from 2011:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Before last year, I would have said this is never going to happen
but since then I have learned to never say never in wrestling. There is a chance that Edge could get back in the ring, though I really don’t think it is going to happen. Edge having one more match would be a huge deal and at
45 years old it isn’t out of the question. It could happen under the right circumstances, but time will tell.

Do you think Edge will wrestle again? Who would you want to see him face?

The More You Know. More Details On NXTs Move To USA, Including Possible
    Launch Date.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 08:44 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/know-details-nxts-move-usa-including-possible-launce-date/

Mark your calendars. Over the last week, the biggest story of something
not taking place in the ring has been the fate of NXT. The promotion,
which has become one of the most well regarded in the world, is pretty
clearly on the move and in recent days, it seems that USA will be its new
home. We now have a few more details though and something big could be announced soon.

According to PW Insider Elite by way of 411mania.com, the first “live” show could take place on September 11, though NXT has already taped material for that date. There is a chance that some of the two hour NXT could consist
of both live and taped material. NXT is still scheduled to tape television
on September 12, meaning that the full live shows will not be taking place immediately.

This could make for a big moment. Check out one of the best matches in the history of NXT:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m rather nervous about this whole thing and I don’t see it ending well for NXT fans. Having the show be on USA would likely mean that Vince McMahon will have his hands in it even more and that we’ll basically
be getting a minor league Monday Night Raw or SmackDown Live. The regular versions of those shows aren’t doing well in the first place so now we’re taking away the good stuff from NXT to make them more like the weak shows.
    How lucky we are.

Are you happy with the move? What do you see as the biggest change? Let
us know in the comments below.

(WATCH): Hes Still A Fighter. CM Punk Gets In Altercation With Fan While
    Doing MMA Commentary.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 08:38 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-hes-still-fighter-cm-punk-gets-altercation-fan-mma-commentary/

It’s always something. Despite not wrestling for over five years, CM Punk’s name is always being brought up by wrestling fans. That tends to be the case when they don’t like what they are seeing in the ring because Punk was considered the fans’ savior. He has since moved on to mixed martial arts, but he even has controversy surrounding him in that world as well,
    even when he isn’t fighting.

On Friday night, Punk was guest commentator on Cage Fury Fighting
Championships 77. As a decision of a fight was being announced, Punk can
be heard telling someone that the need to “back the f*** up.” Punk’s headphones can be heard hitting the desk and, after a few moments, Punk can
be seen yelling at someone while being held back by a security guard.

Punk’s broadcast partner mentions that the fan had been yelling all night. Punk would get back on commentary and say that the fan yelled in his face, leading to the incident. After the fan had been taken away, Punk went on
to commentate on the rest of the show. It is not clear if the fan put his hands on Punk.

And of course it’s on YouTube. Check out a clip of the incident (you can hear the whole thing and see part of it):
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This doesn’t seem to be Punk’s fault and at least in the video, he isn’t shown hitting anyone. The commentary would suggest that the person involved had been doing something like this all night long and if he
screamed in Punk’s face, it’s hard to blame Punk for losing it. That’s going too far with things and it’s understandable that Punk reacted the way he did.

Will Punk ever be back in wrestling? Do you want him to be? Let us know
    in the comments below.

    Main Event Results - August 15, 2019

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 06:06 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/main-event-results-august-15-2019/

    Main Event

    Date: August 15, 2019

Location: Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Commentators: Sam Roberts, Byron Saxton, Renee Young

We’re FINALLY done with Toronto in any way shape or form and that means….well very little really as there isn’t much to get excited about on this show. The more I watch Main Event the more I wonder why WWE doesn’t
put the slightest bit of effort into it when you have a free hour to do
stuff every week. Even if it stays as a recap show, you can at least add in something with the matches. Let’s get to it.

    Opening sequence.
    Lacey Evans vs. Dana Brooke

Lacey can’t trip her down to start so Dana gets in a headlock, only to have Lacey land in some pushups. Not to be outdone, Dana does her own pushups
and gets a bigger reaction than she does most of the time. Back up and
Lacey pulls her down by the hair….which she then ties around the top rope. The slingshot Bronco Buster sets up an armbar and Lacey slams the arm into
the mat. Dana fights up and uses the good arm for some clotheslines but cartwheels into a choke in the corner. The Woman’s Right finishes Brooke at 5:10.

Result: Lacey Evans b. Dana Brooke Womans Right (5:10)

Video on Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar at Summerslam.

    From Raw.

Here’s Rollins to get things going. He can’t believe he’s here because Lesnar is everything that he is touted to be. Lesnar is a freaking beast so
we get a BEAST SLAYER chant, which sounded a lot like a HEATH SLATER chant
at first. Last week he went somewhere he hasn’t gone before….and here’s the
OC to interrupt. AJ says they wanted to be the first to congratulate
Rollins, but he also wants to challenge Seth. That’s a yes, because Rollins doesn’t respect Styles anymore. They’re on for tonight. They shake hands and the Good Brothers tease a beatdown but smile instead.

Theres a lot of gold in this one:

[This post contains video, click to play]
    From Raw again.
    Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles

Non-title, the OC is here with Styles and Rollins has taped up ribs.
Rollins starts fast by tying AJ in the Tree of Woe for a running dropkick.
An OC distraction lets AJ take it outside though and a belly to back
faceplant drops Rollins’ ribs on the floor. Back from a break with AJ
getting two off a suplex to send Rollins out to the apron.

The Styles Clash on the apron is broken up and Rollins sweeps the leg to
send AJ into the apron. Back in and the Falcon Arrow gives Rollins two but
AJ fights out of a reverse superplex. AJ charges into a superkick but
Gallows breaks up the frog splash. While they aren’t caught, the OC gets ejected, only to come back in for the DQ at 9:21.

Result: Seth Rollins b. AJ Styles via DQ when the OC interfered (9:21)

Post match the beatdown is on with Ricochet’s save attempt not working. The super Styles Clash is loaded up but Braun Strowman comes in for the real
save. A pair of powerslams to Styles as Rollins isn’t sure what to think. Strowman picks up the title and hands it to Rollins before a handshake can
    end the show.

    The future is here:

[This post contains video, click to play]
    From Raw.

Here’s Natalya with her arm in a sling for a chat. She was in a fight last night but she wouldn’t change a thing she did or said to Becky and they’ll meet again. Last night after the show, she had a dream where her dad said
he was proud of her. Her dad passed away one year ago….and here’s Sasha Banks for the first time since Wrestlemania.

She hugs Natalya and turns on her in nearly record time. The bad arm is
sent into the corner and then the steps so here’s Becky for the save. Banks knocks her down with a right hand and gets in some chair shots to leave
Becky laying. Graves rips Sasha apart for being selfish as the beating continues.

    Hello there again:
[This post contains video, click to play]
    EC3/Cesaro vs. Curt Hawkins/Zack Ryder

Cesaro headlocks Ryder to start and gets flapjacked for his efforts. It’s
off to Hawkins who gets in an elbow drop, followed by a heck of a dive off
the top to take both of them out. We take a break and come back with
Hawkins suplexing his way out of trouble, allowing the hot tag to Ryder to clean house. The neckbreaker counters EC3’s suplex but Cesaro uppercuts
Ryder into the Neutralizer for the pin at 6:53.

Result: EC3/Cesaro b. Curt Hawkins/Zack Ryder Neutralizer to Ryder (6:53)

Video on Roman Reigns being attacked.

    From Smackdown.

Here are Rowan and Daniel Bryan for a chat. It’s clear that someone is out
to get Reigns but neither of them had anything to do with the attacks. All
that matters is Murphy is a liar but Bryan doesn’t blame him for what he said. Any one of you would cave if Reigns held you against a wall and
Murphy had to give a name. The problem is Murphy gave the wrong name. The
fans say Bryan did it and Bryan says that’s what’s wrong with society. A lie is spread all over social media and then it becomes the truth. They had nothing to do with it and tonight they’ll prove it.

    Theyre not buying it:

[This post contains video, click to play]
    From Smackdown again.
    Buddy Murphy vs. Roman Reigns

Roman doesn’t like being shoved in the face to start so he hits an
uppercut. Murphy is right back with a jumping knee to the face for an early
two and the stomping is on in the corner. They head outside with Reigns
being sent into the barricade a few times so he throws Murphy hard over the announcers’ table. Murphy sends him into the steps though and comes back
with knees off the apron as we take a break.

Back with Reigns fighting out of a chinlock and hitting a powerbomb out of
the corner. Reigns hits the clotheslines in the corner and a big boot puts Murphy down. The spear goes into the post though and Murphy gets two off a rollup. Reigns is sent outside for the big running flip dive (which looked great) and the top rope Meteora gets two back inside. A Superman Punch out
of nowhere gives Reigns two but Murphy hits a series of knees to the face.
The brainbuster gives Murphy two and he goes up top, with a Superman Punch knocking him back down. Reigns hits a spear for the pin at 13:40.

Result: Roman Reigns b. Buddy Murphy Spear (13:40)

Thats how you make a star:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Bryan and Rowan go into the locker room and tell everyone but Murphy to get out. Bryan gets right in his face and demands that Murphy admit that he
lied. Rowan hits Murphy in the face and pins him against the wall, with
Bryan wanting Murphy to admit that he lied. Murphy admits it and Rowan lets
him go, but Bryan says he hates liars. That earns Murphy a trip into the garbage.

Roman comes in to see Bryan and Rowan, who have been conducting their own investigation. Next week, they’ll bring the one who did it to Reigns.

    Impact Wrestling Results - August 16, 2019

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 03:34 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/impact-wrestling-results-august-16-2019/

    Impact Wrestling

    Date: August 16, 2019

Location: St. Clair College, Windsor, Ontario, Canada

    Commentators: Josh Matthews, Don Callis

Impact has been going up and down as of late with some of the stories being better than others and some good enough shows. It’s not the best show in
the world but at least they have enough stuff going on that I can remember
it for a change. That’s more than they’ve had going for them in the past so at least there are some positives around here. Let’s get to it.

    Opening recap.

    Opening sequence.
    Moose vs. Fallah Bahh

Rematch from two weeks ago when Bahh beat him in about a minute. Moose gets smart by stomping on the bare foot and sending Bahh outside, setting up a
pump kick against the barricade. You don’t do that to someone like Bahh,
who crushes Moose with a running crossbody. A splash on the ramp makes it
even worse but Moose goes for the eyes to take over.

Some slow kicks to the face let Moose call Bahh a fat piece of garbage so
Bahh shouts his name a lot. The Samoan drop takes Moose down and a rolling belly to belly gets two. Moose crushes him in the corner though and manages
a top rope superplex but the spear hits buckle. The Banzai Drop misses
though and it’s No Jackhammer Needed to give Moose the pin at 8:52.

Result: Moose b. Fallah Bahh No Jackhammer Needed (8:52)

Tommy Dreamer comes in to see Tessa Blanchard and gives her a history
lesson on….her family. It took others to make her family a success and now Tessa needs help to get through OVE. Dreamer wants to stand with her to
improve this business so she’s with him.

    Video on Su Yung.
Kiera Hogan/Madison Rayne vs. Jordynne Grace/Alexia Nicole

Fallout from Kiera and Madison beating up Nicole last week. Kiera jumps
Nicole before the bell and it’s already time for some villainous double teaming. A sliding basement clothesline gives Madison two but she stops to
GRR at the referee, allowing Alexia to hit a running Meteora. We take a
break and come back with Madison chinlocking Alexia.

Some yelling at the referee lets Madison poke Alexia in the eye and it’s Hogan coming in for a basement dropkick. Alexia pops up and gets over for
the tag to Grace as everything breaks down. Alexia hits a high crossbody on Hogan but Madison is legal. Said legal Madison hits CrossRayne to finish
    Nicole at 9:41.

Result: Madison Rayne/Kiera Hogan b. Jordynne Grace/Alexia Nicole
    CrossRayne to Nicole (9:41)

Post match the brawl continues but the lights go out and it’s Rosemary to chase off Rayne and Hogan.

Flashback Moment of the Week: Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong from Bound For
    Glory 2015.

Alisha Edwards comes up to Ace Austin in the back. Ace is fearing for his safety from Eddie Edwards but Alisha insists they’re just friends. She’ll worry about Eddie.

Post break, Ace lays down when he sees Alisha coming but here’s Eddie to
beat him up when he sees the two of them together.

Taya Valkyrie is in California and has John E. Bravo do various things for
her, mainly including taking care of her dog.

Rhyno and Michael Elgin are fighting outside.
Rascalz vs. Willie Mack/Rich Swann/Rob Van Dam

The Rascalz, and the fans, want Van Dam to start and they get their wish,
with Rob kicking Wentz into the corner for the tag off to Xavier. Mack
kicks him as well and a running elbow gets two. Swann comes in for a
dropkick of his own as it’s one sided so far. A shot to the face sends
Swann into the corner and it’s Miguel coming in to chop away. The slingshot hilo gets two on Swann and the fans want RVD. Instead they get an enziguri
to Swann for two more but Swann slips out of a double backbreaker.

A cutter drops Miguel and there’s the hot tag to Van Dam. The split legged moonsault gets two on Wentz and Mack’s standing moonsault into Van Dam’s Rolling Thunder is good for two more. Everything breaks down but the push moonsault is broken up. Wentz and Swann chop it out and the pace picks up
with Swann getting the better of it. Van Dam hits the Five Star and Swann
drops the Phoenix splash for the pin on Wentz at 13:01.

Result: Willie Mack/Rich Swann/Rob Van Dam b. Rascalz Phoenix splash to
    Wentz (13:01)

The North says they’re going to California to defend the Tag Team Titles at Cali Combat next week.

Jake Crist comes in to laugh at the Rascalz, Swann and Mack. Some glares
    send him running.
    Deaners vs. Desi Hit Squad

The losers are the winners servants, meaning this feud is going to continue beyond tonight. It’s a brawl to start with everyone going out to the floor and the Deaners getting the better of things. Raj gets dropped ribs first
onto the top rope and a knee knocks him back off. The Squad is right back
up for a double suplex on Jake do Cody comes in for a clothesline.

Back from a break with Raju raking Cody’s eyes, leaving Gama to low bridge Cody to the floor. Cody gets caught in the Squad’s corner with Gama getting in a cheap shot from the outside. Raj rips at Cody’s face but Cody kicks
Raju away. That’s not enough for the tag though as Raj pulls Jake off the apron. A sidestep sends Raj outside and now the hot tag can bring in Jake.

Everything breaks down and Cody hits a suicide dive, followed by Jake’s running dive. Back in and Jake hits a Michinoku Driver for two on Raj and things settle back down. Gama’s distraction lets Raju get a rollup for two more as everything breaks down again. An assisted top rope double stomp
gets two on Cody but Raju’s Cannonball is caught in the corner. Raju is
sent outside and it’s the assisted suplex into the Side Effect (CTD) for
the pin on Raj at 14:49.

Result: Deaners b. Desi Hit Squad CTD to Singh (14:49)

Sami Callihan wants to know where Jake Crist is but switches over to threatening Tommy and Tessa. She will NEVER beat him and tonight will be exactly like any other night.

The Deaners are ready to make the Squad work on their farm.
Sami Callihan/Dave Crist vs. Tessa Blanchard/Tommy Dreamer

At least Tommy doesn’t get the last entrance. They start fast with Tommy
and Tessa trying stereo Bionic Elbows but have to settle for kicks to the
face instead. Everything breaks down early on and Tommy hits a double clothesline off the apron. Tessa hits a top rope dive of her own (landing
on her feet) and we take a break.

Back with Dreamer handing Tessa a beer from the crowd so she can spit it in Sami’s face. Dreamer does it to Dave and we settle down to Sami begging off from Tessa inside. Everything breaks down again in record time with all
    four heading back outside.

Dave catapults Dreamer throat first into the barricade and takes it back
inside to crank on both of Dreamer’s arms. Dreamer is right back up, only
to have Sami take him into the corner. Dreamer fights back but Tessa gets pulled off the apron. Double Bionic elbows and the diving tag bring in
Tessa (with a scary look on her face as she cleans house).

It Would Make Sense. Big Sign That Ronda Rousey Could Be Returning For SmackDown Live FOX Debut.

She’s the kind of name they need. WWE is coming up on a major show on October 4 with the first episode of SmackDown Live on FOX. The show is a
huge milestone for WWE, both in the way of having the debut on FOX but also
the 20th Anniversary of SmackDown Live. That means that WWE is wanting
every big name they can find and one of them is certainly on their minds.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there is a reasonable chance that
Ronda Rousey appears on the October 4 SmackDown Live. Rousey was recently announced as appearing on the FOX show 9-1-1, which means that her hiatus
to start a family may already be over. In addition to that, FOX would be interested both in the star power and in the crossover appeal of having
Rousey appear on two FOX shows. There has been no word from WWE on an appearance from Rousey.

She’s been on the show before and it was a big deal. Check out Rousey on SmackDown Live earlier this year:

Opinion: It isn’t exactly surprising that WWE and FOX would both want
Rousey, a star with a lot of mainstream appeal left, to be on the show.
Her appearance would make the show feel that much bigger and it would make
a lot of sense to have her around. If she is already willing to accept at least a part time acting role, seeing her back in WWE full time isn’t the furthest next step.

Do you think Rousey will be on the show? When will she be back in WWE full time? Let us know in the comments below.
