Drew McIntyre Talks About the Day He Got Fired from WWE & Reinventing His Career
Posted: 10 Aug 2019 10:05 AM PDT
https://www.prowrestling.com/drew-mcintyre-talks-about-the-day-he-got-fired-from-wwe-reinventing-his-career/
Ahead of this Sundays WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, the Scottish Psychopath Drew McIntyre sat down with Cathy Kelley for a retrospective interview tracing his career from the very beginning, training at one of the only two wrestling schools in the UK, to
his original WWE release, all the way to where he is today.
During the interview, which you can check out below, McIntyre discussed
what it was like to receive the call from WWE management when he was
released from the company in 2014, as well as his attitude at the time.
I was shocked initially. Myself, Jinder Mahal and Heath [Slater] as 3MB
were on literally everything. All the live events, all the television
shows. We were heavily featured, so I was surprised. At the end of the call
I said, Thats cool, I appreciate it, and Ill see you down the line. I meant
it.
I got off the call, sat and thought about it awhile, and spoke to a couple
of buddies that have also been released. They told me what everybody does
is you get released, and you start working for these smaller companies
around the world. You play the WWE character you were doing on TV, and you
make X amount of money at first, and then as you come around the second
time it goes down; third time it goes down, and you find a wage you can
live on.
To me as a businessman, that sounded insane. No, Im not going to do that.
Ive gotta reinvent myself. Apply all the lessons that Ive learned over the years, and show everybody what I can truly do. I can truly be a main-event player. Within an hour I had arranged my first appearance in the UK for
ICW, I spoke to the promoter there, Mark Dallas, told him I wanted to show
up, be a surprise at their big show, and give my mission statement to the world. I flew to Scotland with a hoodie on, I hid at my dads house for
three days with the blinds closed, snuck to the gym at the cover of night,
and showed up in the ring to give the promo that really kick-started everything.
Check out the full interview below.

The Charismatic Enigma has been a major part of some big moments throughout SummerSlam history, from the historic TLC match in 2000, to defending his
World Heavyweight Championship in the main event, against CM Punk in 2009.
The problem is, hes literally never won a single match on one of wrestlings biggest stages. Over the course of 18 years he lost on six different
occasions, including two TLC matches and a ladder match.

Impact Wrestling Results
August 9, 2019
Jake Crist (c) def. AIden Prince to retain the X-Division Championship
We saw another segment in the LAX clubhouse where Konnan was telling Daga everything would be fine, and Ortiz would get over his issues and team with him. Ortiz walked in and Daga offered him a beer, and the two toasted to winning the tag team titles.
Its announced that Taya Valkyrie is being forced to defend her Knockouts Championship against Jessicka Havok again.
Ace Austin def. Eddie Edwards via DQ after Eddie shoved down the referee
to end a really good match. Alisha Edwards came out and screamed at her husband, and he walked out.
Tessa Blanchard cut a promo talking about oVe screwing her out of her
match with Sami Callihan yet again, warning him that shes coming for him,
and soon.
Moose trashes Fallah Bahh and tells him to stop losing weight because then Impact management wont need him to play his role of being their clown
anymore. The two brawled around the backstage area and Bahh ended up taking
a face full of cake from catering.
Madison Rayne def. Alexia Nicoel
Madison argued with Kiera Hogan after her match and the two beat down
Alexia, kind of taking turns and trying to one-up each other. Jordynne
Grace ran out and chased them off.
Taya Valkyrie (c) vs. Jessicka Havok went to a No Contest in a match for
the Knockouts Championship. Things sort of just ended when Su Yung and her Bridesmaids came out, attacking Havok and knocking her out with the
Mandible Claw.
Melissa Santos was interviewed but didnt have a medical update on her husband, Brian Cage, outside of them needing to consult with doctors and
find the source of his injury. Theyve realized there is more to life than wrestling, and if hes done they are prepared to face that.
Nate Madsen def. Stone Rockwell via DQ after Rhino hit the ring and gored him, before calling out Michael Elgin. Big Mike obliged and accused the ECW legend of trying to make a name off him, because hes the hottest thing
going in Impact right now. The two ended up going at it, and security
separated them.
Next week itll be Sami Callihan and Dave Crist teaming up to face Tessa Blanchard and Tommy Dreamer. Well also see RVD, Rich Swann and Willie Mack
in a six-man tag against The Rascalz, and The Desi Hit Squad vs. The
Deaners.

Triple H Responds to Reports of NXT Moving to FS1, WWE Allegedly Counter-Programming Against AEW
Posted: 10 Aug 2019 06:30 AM PDT
https://www.prowrestling.com/triple-h-responds-to-reports-of-nxt-moving-to-fs1-wwe-allegedly-counter-programming-against-aew/
During a Friday afternoon teleconference with members of the media, Paul Levesque (aka Triple H) responded to a question from the Wrestling
Observers Dave Melzter regarding recent reports of NXT moving to FS1, with
the latest news being a possible two-hour live show that would compete head-to-head with All Elite Wrestlings newly announced Wednesday night
block on TNT.
The Game neither outright confirmed nor denied whether the move to FS1 was happening of course, remaining intentionally cryptic on the subject and he even stated as much. However, when addressing the idea of WWE trying to counter-program AEW, Levesque did somewhat emphatically insist that NXT was
at home on Wednesday nights far before any potential competition, and that
WWE is focussed solely on worrying about doing our business.
At the risk of being cryptic Theres always planning. Theres always a
changing landscape. The internal discussion of where content goes is a constant. We have this wheel of options of distribution that we have,
whether it be television, or Facebook, USA or Fox. Then theres our digital presence, as you know a billion social media followers, #1 channel on
YouTube for sports, #2 overall in the world for anything on YouTube. And
then VOD with our Network. Where you put content is at all times up for
debate. Theres plans over the short-run, and theres plans in the long-run.
So when it comes to NXT, the reason I talk cryptically is that theres a lot
of thoughts and ideas out there, but were constantly debating where things
go and land. Theres a lot of thought that goes into all of it, because they
all effect each other, and you want to put the right amount of stuff on
each one of those pieces of the wheel, to make sure youre getting the
maximum out oof out all of them.
Contrary to what Ive heard you hear people speculate, and the
conversations surrounding FS1 with NXT. People come in with
counter-programming talk. We have content all over the place, and if people want to bring up counter-programming in the conversation Wednesday has
been the home of NXT forever. Thats where its sat. When other people
announce Wednesday, you dont hear talk about counter-programming, you just
hear the announcement. For us, everything is counter-programming. We plan things long in advance, and worry about doing our business.

NXT Takeover: Toronto Preview - Cole vs Gargano III, Mia Yims Time to
Shine, Are the Street Profits Transitional Champs?
Posted: 10 Aug 2019 06:00 AM PDT
https://www.prowrestling.com/nxt-takeover-toronto-preview-cole-vs-gargano-iii-mia-yims-time-to-shine-are-the-street-profits-transitional-champs/
NXT Takeover: Toronto airs tonight exclusively on the WWE Network, live
from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Weve got five matches on deck, all of which will be trying their hardest to steal the show, live up to the impossible (yet always-delivered-upon)
standards of the Takeover name, and put on the best matches of the entire weekend.
In addition to the five-match main card, there will be two matches taped
prior to Takeover including the finals of the NXT Breakout Tournament, and
the in-ring return of Breezango as a tag team, so make sure you still with
us throughout the entire day as well be bringing you complete live coverage
of everything Takeover, as well as up-to-the-minute news.
Now, lets dig into the show
ADAM COLE (c) vs. JOHNNY GARGANO IN A TWO-OUT-OF-THREE FALLS MATCH FOR THE
NXT CHAMPIONSHIP
The storied rivalry between Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano goes back further
than we have time to really cover here, so we highly recommend checking out
the lengthy Prime Target video package that WWE put together above, that
sort of recaps the whole program and gets comments from tons of WWE stars
who have associated with both Superstars.
The gist of it is this. When Tommaso Ciampa was forced to vacate the NXT Championship due to injury, the entire NXT Takeover: New York card had to
be rewritten, with Cole and Gargano put in a Two-Out-of-Three Falls match
to determine the new champion. While Cole won the first fall, he ultimately lost the match and Johnny Takeover won the title for the very first time.
He had very little time to celebrate, however, as Cole took the title back
from him at NXT Takeover XXV in an even more incredible main event match
this time in a simple one-fall wrestling match, where Cole simply used
better psychology, and played the superior mind games to outwit his
opponent and win the title.
Now the two will finally settle the score in another Two-Out-of-Three Falls match, but to make sure things are fully settled, each fall will have a completely different stipulation. As decided by Gargano, the first fall
will be a Street Fight, and Cole opted for a straight-up wrestling match in
the second fall. If a third fall is necessary, a stipulation will be
announced on the spot by NXT General Manager William Regal.
VELVETEEN DREAM (c) vs. PETE DUNNE vs. RODERICK STRONG FOR THE NXT NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
This is going to be an absolute war. All three of these men have been
integral to building up the NXT brand at one time or another over the past
two years. Dream is innately familiar with both of his upcoming
challengers, while Dunne and Strong traded fists numerous titles, including some instant classic Match of the Year candidate brawls between the former
WWE UK Champions British Strong Style group and the Undisputed Era. Thats really all there is to this one Dream is ready to take on all comers, and
hes got two of the best in the world to mix it up with. Itll be shocking if this isnt one of the best matches of the entire weekend.
SHAYNA BASZLER (c) vs. MIA YIM FOR THE NXT WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP
At this point, the Queen of Spades Shayna Baszler has carved out a name for herself as the undisputed greatest NXT Womens Champion ever. Nobody has
come close to the amount of consistently great, not to mention dominant
title defenses that she has had over the course of two distinct title
reigns. No, not even Asuka, who largely reigned over a down period for the brand, and outside of Ember Moon rarely had the stand-out Takeover matches
that the division has become known for.
Im a big fan of Mia Yim. She has been a force of nature over the past few months, genuinely working her way into a shot at the title, and
methodically taking out Baszlers friends in some nasty backstage and Performance Center segments. I genuinely want her to be THE ONE to finally
beat Shayna for the title (again), but literally every time I think its
going to happen, here we are at the end of another Takeover special as she
yet again taps out another challenger and retains. Io Shirai. Kairi Sane. Bianca Belair. Toni Storm. Nikki Cross. Ember Moon. Name after name after
name.
CANDICE LERAE vs. IO SHIRAI
When Io first debuted in NXT she was brought in as the best friend of the Pirate Princess Kairi Sane, an already developed and super popular star who
had won the womens championship, the Mae Young Classic, and had established herself as a force to be reckoned with. But Io largely took a back seat.
Ever since Sane jumped to the main roster earlier this year, her former BFF
has shown a whole new side of aggression, which came to a head after losing
a steel cage match to Shayna Baszler on NXT television, coming up short yet again with the womens title on the line. She took out her frustrations on
the closest possible individual, which just so happened to be a friendly Candice LeRae.
Heres the thing anyone who followed Io in Japan knows shes one of the best villains in womens wrestling, if not THE best. But you also just dont mess
with Candice LeRae. Period. I know shes been largely relegated to the role
of Johnnys wife while in NXT so far, which is a damn crime in wrestling if
were being honest, but shes been in some absolutely bloody and brutal wars
in her time. This match should be outstanding.
THE STREET PROFITS (c) vs. THE UNDISPUTED ERA (KYLE OREILLY & BOBBY FISH)
FOR THE NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
While this may seem like the most straight-forward match on the card,
things between the Street Profits and the Undisputed Era go back a long
time by NXT standards. Both teams have a long tenure on the black-and-gold brand, longer than most in fact, but for the reigning champions this is
really the first time theyve been on the mountaintop, in the spotlight of
the NXT tag team division, while the Undisputed Era has done nothing but
rack up wins and win titles since arriving.
This is also an interesting match to keep an eye on. While Ive long since
given up on trying to predict when Adam Cole and his small private army are going to debut on the main roster, the Street Profits have been appearing
in backstage segments on Raw for over a month now. On one hand they have a
lot to prove, as they want to be seen as more than transitional champions.
Not to mention, those belts have already taken a beating lately with the
War Raiders getting the same treatment winning the titles, then
immediately having to vacate them because of moving to the main roster.
