RUMOR: His Opinion Counts. Vince McMahon Is Not A Fan Of These Titles.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 04:00 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/opinion-counts-vince-mcmahon-not-fan-title/

He kind of needs to be a fan. There are a lot of titles in WWE and that
means there are a lot of champions. It doesn’t help when some of these titles have multiple people holding them each, as it means there are a lot
of belts to go around the company. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out
what to do with all of them, and in one such case, the most important
person in the company doesn’t like a certain title.

According to Sportskeeda.com, Vince McMahon never wanted to have the
Women’s Tag Team Titles introduced to the company. The titles, which were announced last December by McMahon in a backstage segment with first
champions being crowned in February at Elimination Chamber, were created as McMahon was under pressure to produce them. The titles had no plans and
still may not to this day. The second champions, the IIconics, rarely
defended the titles over their four month reign.

It was quite the announcement though. Check out McMahon promising the
    titles:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is far from surprising as the titles have felt like complete afterthoughts since their inception. Bayley and Sasha Banks talked about defending them on every show but the IIconics were lucky to defend them
once every six weeks. There is little need to have them around and WWE doesn’t seem too thrilled with them either. This is quite the problem for the titles, though it’s also kind of hard to get rid of them.

Can the titles be saved? What should WWE do with them? Let us know in the comments below.

The First Of Many. First Celebrity Announced For WrestleMania 36.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 03:00 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/first-many-first-celebrity-announced-wrestlemania-36/

They have a history with celebrities. WrestleMania hit the ground running thirty four years ago with a star studded event, featuring as many
celebrities as you could imagine on the show. From Billy Martin to the Rockettes to Muhammad Ali, there were more celebrities than the company
knew what to do with. Celebrities have been a tradition at the show ever
since and we now know one who will be appearing at the next edtiion.

Wednesday morning on Good Morning America, actor Zack Gottsagen made an appearance to discuss his new film The Peanut Butter Falcon. The movie
focuses on a boy with Down’s Syndrome who works towards his dream of
becoming a wrestler. At the end of the interview, host Michael Strahan
brought out a gift basked from WWE, including an invitation to WrestleMania
36 in Tampa, Florida next year.

It was a pretty cool moment. Check out Gottsagen getting his invitation:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon both commented on the whole thing:

Congrats on the movie @tpbfalcon and can’t wait for you to come to @WrestleMania next year, Zack!

oh and PS I’ll forgive you for not saying I was one of your favorite Superstars! @RealMickFoley https://t.co/6cloBaZA0S

    - Triple H (@TripleH) August 7, 2019

We can’t wait to meet you at @WrestleMania, Zack! Congratulations on #ThePeanutButterFalcon! https://t.co/OpmHLr9zHv

    - Stephanie McMahon (@StephMcMahon) August 7, 2019

Opinion: I know the celebrities aren’t everyone’s thing but they are certainly something that WWE does every year, which isn’t going to change anytime soon. WWE likes making WrestleMania feel like it’s one of the biggest events of the year and for them, that is certainly the case. This might not be the most famous name in the world, but you can imagine that it
is one of the first of several.

Who is your favorite WrestleMania celebrity? Will you be seeing the
movie? Let us know in the comments below.

Worthy Of A Legend. WWE Has A Very Cool Tribute To Gene Okerlund.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 12:11 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/worthy-legend-wwe-cool-tribute-gene-okerlund/

Now this is just cool. Wrestling is a business oftentimes based on
nostalgia, meaning that some legends are far more important than others.
If a personality or wrestler can get inside the fans’ minds and become a
part of their wrestling world, odds are they aren’t going to leave there anytime soon. That was the case with a legend who passed away earlier this year, but he is not being forgotten.

WWE host Scott Stanford has posted a new photo to Twitter, showing that an audio studio at WWE Headquarters has now been renamed in honor of Gene Okerlund. The studio, Audio Studio 2, also features a sign outside showing Okerlund sitting in a chair and holding a drink. Okerlund was the main interviewer for WWE from 1984-1993 and passed away earlier this year at 76 years old.

    - Scott Stanford (@scottstanford1) August 7, 2019

WWE knows how to pay tributes. Check out their video for Okerlund from
    earlier this year:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s the kind of thing I love to see. That sign is going to be
a lot more permanent than the video, which is likely going to be forgotten
or not seen very often in the future. While the sign won’t be seen by the masses, it will be seen by the people in WWE and that is the place where Okerlund’s memory could inspire some people. He did that to the fans for years and now it can do the same thing for a long time to come.

What is your favorite Okerlund moment? Who was he best at interviewing?

Another Show On The List. New Weekly National Wrestling TV Show Announced.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 12:05 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/another-show-list-new-weekly-national-wrestling-tv-show-announced/

There’s always room for more wrestling. There are a lot of wrestling shows available at the moment. Like a lot a lot of them. Just counting the
original content every week, you have at least eight weekly shows (WWE,
Impact Wrestling, ROH), which is before AEW debuts. With so much content
to watch, it might seem a bit insane to add another. However, that is
what’s going on and from an old, familiar name.

In a new video posted to the NWA’s YouTube page, NWA owner Billy Corgan announced a new weekly television show from the promotion. There are very
few details available, though the show will be taped at a venue in Atlanta, Georgia and the first shows will be taped on September 30 and October 1.
There was no mention of talent appearing, a show name or a television
    network.

That brings up some old memories. Check out Corgan’s announcement:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is something that I was kind of expecting one day but at the
same time it’s almost impossible to believe that it is happening. The NWA was such a joke for so long that it seems almost impossible to have them on television again. At the same time though, they’re at the point where a
show could actually be interesting. Some of the stuff they have done has worked well enough and maybe they can keep growing from here.

Would you watch an NWA show? Can the NWA keep growing? Let us know in the comments below.

(VIDEO): If At First You Dont Succeed. AEW Announces The Return Of A
    Specialty Match For All Out.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 12:01 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/try-aew-announces-return-specialty-match/

That’s how you double down. AEW has already become one of the hottest pro wrestling companies in a long time, with the new organization becoming the second biggest promotion in the United States in only a few months. They
have only run three shows so far with a fourth coming at the end of
August. In addition to various big matches, one special match is coming
    back.

In the latest edition of Road To All Out, Brandi Rhodes announced the
return of the Casino Battle Royal. The match, which involves groups of wrestlers entering the ring at the same time, will feature a women’s lineup this time with the winner receiving a spot in a match to crown the first
AEW Women’s Champion. Three names were also announced for the match: Jazz, Ivelisse and Teal Piper, the daughter of Roddy Piper. The first battle
royal took place at Double Or Nothing and was won by Adam Page.

There is some major news here. Check out the episode with the announcement: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This could be interesting as the match was not the most well
received in the first place. It takes some guts to try it again, though hopefully they have the kinks worked out this time. Having a title shot on
the line is a good idea and maybe they can do something better with the
second attempt. If nothing else, having the match be a lot more serious
    would be a good start.

Are you glad the match is back? Who do you see winning it? Let us know in

REVIEW: NXT - December 12, 2012: Meet Your New Monster

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 10:45 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/review-nxt-december-12-2012-meet-new-monster/

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE
to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using
letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
    NXT

    Date: December 13, 2012

Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida

    Commentators: Tom Phillips, William Regal
Its finally time for Mahal vs. Rollins II, which is annoying as things have changed a lot since this was filmed. Anyway, the match last time was fine
but I wish there was more of a reason for these two to be fighting instead
of just over the title. All weve really heard is “Im the champion” and “I want the title.” Thats not exactly enough to hook fans with a guy treated
as a jobber in WWE vs. a member of a team whose gimmick doesnt exist in NXT yet. Lets get to it.
We open with a recap of the title situation and Mahal attacking Rollins recently.
    Paige vs. Sasha Banks
Apparently Banks is debuting here and has been in the New England indies
for a few years. I really have an issue with two people in a match being younger than me. It makes me feel old watching this. Banks isnt bad looking
but Paige is WAY over with the fans here. Paige takes Banks to the mat with
a headscissors and rolls her around with it in a move I havent seen before. Sasha nips up to escape and hits a Sin Cara armdrag out of the corner for
two. Paige goes into banshee mode with her screaming and the fans go NUTS.
A fishermans suplex gets two for Paige and its off to a double chickenwing. Sasha escapes with a pair of rollups for two but Paige hits that snap Angle Slam kind of move called the Paige Turner for the pin at 4:03.
Rating: C. Nothing too bad here as Paige continues to impress. Shes clearly very comfortable in the ring and can do whatever is needed of her. Her
looks are just a bonus at this point, but unfortunately she likely would
get messed up on the main roster because of her pale skin color. Anyway,
decent match here and Sasha looked decent enough.
Roman Reigns brags about the size of his watch but gets a phone call and leaves.
We recap the end of last weeks show where Regal saved Kidd from Kruger and Ohno.
Ohno and Kruger are gunning for Steamboat, Kidd and Barretta. Krugers voice
is pretty awesome here. Oh and if Regal gets involved in their business
again, Regal can join them in the ICU.
    Oliver Grey vs. ???
Before the match, we get another awesome Bray Wyatt promo about love and
power. Wyatt brings out his son, who is a big bald guy with an awesome
beard whose name I couldnt understand. The guy is big and muscular and he
kicks Grey in the face to start. He looks like hes in green prison garb for lack of a better description. Wyatt is sitting in a rocking chair on the
stage. The guy slams Grey down and puts on a bearhug where he whips Grey
from side to side. A big side slam ends Grey at 2:00.
Post match Wyatt says the mans name is Rowan and says to follow the
    buzzards.
    This guy could go somewhere:
[This post contains video, click to play]
Heres Commissioner Dusty Rhodes to hype up the main event. However, he also wants to talk about Vickie Guerrero. Vickie is welcome here any time, but
there are no bounties allowed in NXT unless its run by Dusty. The bounty is officially revoked and heres Camacho to protest. He calls Dusty jefe (boss)
and Dusty says its either General Commissioner or..Camacho: “El Capitan?” Dusty: “I LOVE THAT!” Camacho says the bounty has to be on because he has to get Hunico out of Mexico. If Dusty doesnt reinstate the bounty then
Camacho is going to reinstate it on Dusty.
This brings out Big E. Langston, and Dusty makes a handicap match with
Camacho and whoever he picks against Langston. Big E. is cool with that.
Again: Dusty isnt out here long and he makes something happen while
advancing a storyline. Dusty was there about four minutes, which is the
longest time hes been on camera yet on this show.
Big Show is answering Bo Dallas challenge. He says that hes going to knock
out Dallas so that Dallas never makes it to the main shows. Thats next week
    as well.
NXT Title: Seth Rollins vs. Jinder Mahal
Mahal is now in 3MB, which is annoying as all the promos and videos tonight have had Mahal in his old attire. After some big match intros were ready to
go. Mahal immediately heads to the floor for a few seconds to mess with
Rollins head. Back in and the champion (Rollins) goes for Mahals arm,
sending him to the ropes for more stalling. Rollins hooks a headlock which
goes nowhere so Seth peppers him with forearms.
They head to the floor and Rollins hits a HARD chop. Back in and Seth hits
some kicks as Mahal is in trouble. Jinder sends him to the apron and shoves Seth off the ropes to finally take over. We take a break and come back with Mahal choking in the corner. A suplex on the floor gets two for Mahal and
its off to a double arm hold. That doesnt last long so a backbreaker gets another two count, as does a knee to the face.
We hit a quick chinlock but Rollins fights out with some shots to the ribs
and a backdrop. Seth tries to go up top but is almost immediately crotched.
A clothesline gets two for Jinder and its back to the chinlock as we take another break. Back with Rollins in a reverse chinlock which is
transitioned into a regular version. Rollins fights up and hits a big
enziguri to put both guys down.
Back up and Seth dropkicks Mahal down and fires off right hands on the mat. They slug it out until Mahal gets clotheslined to the floor. Rollins hits a suicide dive and Mahal is in trouble. Back in and Seth hits a springboard
knee to the side of the head for two. Seth puts him on the top and kicks
Mahal in the head, but his super rana is countered into a sunset flip for
    two.
Jinder comes back again with a sitout slam for two but jumps into a dropkick/knee to the ribs from Seth. This is a very back and forth match. Rollins misses a splash in the corner and Jinder pounds away. Seth counters
out of it and hits the running buckle bomb on the opposite corner. The full nelson slam is escaped so Mahal hits a knee to the back of the head and
hooks the camel clutch. Seth immediately gets to the rope and comes back
with the low superkick (Avada Kedavra) and the standing Sliced Bread (Skywalker) for the pin to retain at 15:20 shown of 22:20.
Rating: B. No complaints here as these two have some solid chemistry
together. Thankfully this wasnt a comedy match for Mahal and he was just in different attire instead of being completely goofy. Rollins winning these
come from behind matches is the perfect way to build up a guy like him and
the match worked very well overall. Good stuff, especially for a TV match. Corey Graves gets in Rollins face to end the show with a sarcastic clap. Overall Rating: A. Good match, decent Divas match, good character stuff
with Wyatt and Rowan, setting up the next title feud, promo addressing the
end of last weeks show and two big matches announced for next week. What
else could you possibly want in a one hour wrestling show?

KBs Review: They Could Have Done It

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 10:32 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/kbs-review-done/

There’s something very cool about a whodunit story. It opens up so many
doors and while the reveal may be a surprise, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make sense. A lot of the time you can make up whatever conclusion
you want and fill in the story later. That can make for some interesting
twists and turns, as you can see someone come from out of nowhere and get a nice push without having to be there the whole time.

As we continue towards Summerslam, one of the biggest stories has been
Roman Reigns dodging some attacks by a mystery person. The reveal of Rowan
as the attacker on SmackDown Live was quite the surprise, though it feels
like it’s setting up something bigger down the line. That may or may not be the case, but it got me thinking about a few other options.

That’s what we’re going to look at this week: who could have been the attacker? There are a lot of people with nothing to do and they could have
fit this role very well. Note that I am not saying that these would have
been better or that Rowan wasn’t a good choice. These also may or may not
be logical or plausible, but today is about a bit of fantasy booking
instead of what is actually happening.

    In no particular order:
    Shinsuke Nakamura

Yeah imagine that: having the Intercontinental Champion do something other
than revolving around the title (by which I mean he gets a challenger,
faces them at the pay per view and then again on TV before moving on). I don’t know what the point is in having Nakamura sit around waiting on a new challenger when you could present him as someone who is actively looking
    for competition.

Imagine Reigns having to deal with this:

[This post contains video, click to play]
The title doesn’t even have to be involved and Nakamura could go after
Reigns even if he wasn’t champion. It’s a match we’ve never seen before and
it could offer something fresh on a few different grounds. Nakamura had
nothing going on until he won the Intercontinental Title and you have to
wonder what is going to happen to him after he loses it. That’s a talent
who should have something to do all the time, so why not have him try to
    kill a co-worker?
    EC3

This is another case where you have the talent sitting on the sidelines
with nothing to do and for some reason WWE isn’t interested in giving him anything to do. ECW has one of the weirdest career paths in recent memory
in WWE as he came in, didn’t say anything, beat Dean Ambrose, and then was banished to Main Event. The guy was a World Champion elsewhere and now he’s stuck on Main Event with nothing to do.

    Its a Shield thing:

[This post contains video, click to play]
How easy is it to write this one? “I’m tired of being left on the sidelines so I made an Impact.” Or maybe “I am in the top 1% and I’m fed up with seeing a commoner like Reigns get this much attention.” You could do it a doze or more ways and EC3 has all of the tools to back it up (talking,
look, ability to take a spear). Or we could have him fight Titus O’Neil in
a glorified dark match every week instead, making others wonder why they
    would bother signing with WWE.
    Rusev

This is kind of a mixture of the previous two picks. Rusev has been sitting
on the sidelines for a good chunk of the year (last televised match: June 7
in the Super ShowDown battle royal) and there’s already a history there between he and Reigns. I know I harp on Rusev not being around a lot but
there is a good reason for that: it makes next to no sense to have him
sitting on the sidelines for so long.

Maybe Rusev wants to do it again:

[This post contains video, click to play]
This is similar to the EC3 story: Rusev wants to make an impact and is
tired of sitting around. That’s going to be a recurring theme for this
list. So many people are stuck sitting on the sidelines with nothing to do
so why not put them into this spot instead? Even if it isn’t your endgame
for the whole thing, it’s better than letting them collect a paycheck while sitting at home.
    Andrade

I know that he’s busy with Rey Mysterio but my goodness this guy is a breakout star waiting to break out. He has all the tools you could imagine
and even has a mastermind behind the whole thing in Zelina Vega. Let him
get out there and do something big, which he’s seemed to be on the cusp of for months now. Andrade was a big star in Mexico and he can be here too, if
WWE would let him do something other than fight Mysterio.

Andrade can do the big match:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Andrade vs. Reigns might not sound like the best match on paper, but
Andrade has had a string of rather good matches so far. Reigns, while not
the most popular character, has shown that he can have a rather well done
match with a lot of people of different styles. Andrade is right there and
if a mask vs. hair match isn’t going to happen, maybe let him try being violent instead.
    Daniel Bryan

Ok I know this is likely the end result of the whole thing and there’s nothing wrong with that. Bryan vs. Reigns is a match we haven’t seen in a long time and they could get the best out of each other. Bryan has been
looking for something significant to do on his own since losing the title
so this is the kind of thing that could be his ticket out of the midcard
    loop he’s been in.

Theyve come a long way since this:

[This post contains video, click to play]
This certainly seems to be where they’re going and for some reason they
went with a different direction instead of what seemed to make sense. I get
why they went with Rowan for now as there is no requirement to have the
match at Summerslam, but it would have been nice to see it on the big
stage. Bryan will probably get the nod and can benefit from it quite a bit, though I’ll believe WWE can pull it off when I see them do it.
    Keith Lee

This is pure fantasy booking, as Lee has gotten my attention from the
second that he debuted down in NXT. If nothing else, I want to hear that
theme song on the main roster. So many of the people that Reigns faces are
on the leaner side and it would be nice to see him in there against a big monster for a change. That would be the case with Lee, who offers a rather unique opponent.

The music alone is worth it:

[This post contains video, click to play]
As for a story? Who cares? It’s Lee, who can go out there and do a bunch of cool looking stuff. You can fill in the details later on but what matters
here is having someone else for Reigns to fight. I know this one doesn’t
make sense and isn’t going to happen, but part of being a fan is having fun and throwing out ideas that are pure fun for you.
    Buddy Murphy

This was the one that got my attention up the most as it seemed they were teasing Murphy last week. That was the case again on this week’s SmackDown Live as Reigns accused Murphy of being behind the attack. Of course that’s not the way they went as instead Murphy just gave up Rowan as the attacker, because WWE doesn’t seem to see much in Murphy.

Hes such a secret that you might need to get to know him:

Why that is the case I’m not sure, as Murphy seems to have the tools to go somewhere. I mean, WWE certainly thought so when they promoted him to the
main roster from 205 Live, who could use someone like him. It’s better than having him sit around doing nothing week after week (amazing how that keeps coming up) and Murphy would have been something different. Maybe he’s still involved in the story, or just has a match at some point, please?
    Tommaso Ciampa

There’s one reason this makes sense (assuming Ciampa is healthy enough to
do something like this): what the heck is he supposed to do in NXT? He
already had an all time classic feud with Johnny Gargano, so how is he
supposed to just be a regular guy down there again? Ciampa is someone who probably doesn’t have a lot of time left in the ring due to all of his injuries so putting him on the main roster while they can would be nice.

Ciampa can go with the violent fight:

Ciampa has proven that he can create heat like few others, which is
something that could do a lot of good for WWE at the moment. WWE was
already willing to call him up earlier this year (Yeah remember that
completely necessary call up that broke continuity with NXT and served next
to no purpose?) so they know he’s good. It would certainly work for a shocking moment.

    And finally:
    Rowan

Of course he’s someone who could do it because, you know, he did it. I
still don’t think Rowan is going to be the mastermind (though they have
done a great job of making it seem that it is something he could do) but
for a one off opponent for Reigns until he gets on to Bryan, this could
work very well. I’m not sure how well Rowan could hang with him in the ring but that’s what you have Bryan for.

You might not remember this one:

At the end of the day, Rowan looks like a monster, acts like a monster and wrestles like a monster. Therefore, why not let him go and be a monster?
This is one of those ideas that writes itself and WWE going with him now is better than rushing straight to Bryan on such short notice. It’s kind of
nice to see them going with the better story instead of sticking with the schedule and it might work out just fine.

Overall, the center point of this all seems to come down to WWE having a
lot of options to choose from. Rowan is certainly an acceptable choice as
it leads….oh you get the idea already. Reigns can have a good match with
just about anyone but it can be fun to think of some different
combinations. Or of some wrestlers with so much talent actually getting to
do something other than remind us that they still have a job.
