Fill In The Gaps. Full Details On Bobby Lashleys Injury Status, Including
What Was Wrong And When He Will Be Back.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 09:31 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/fill-gaps-full-details-bobby-lashleys-injury-status-including-wrong-will-back/

It could be so much worse. There are several different kinds of injuries
in wrestling. Sometimes a person is hurt in the blink of an eye and goes
on the shelf immediately. Other times, an injury can build up over time
and someone can work through it. Neither is a good option, but at least
some of them are worse than others. We now know the details on a current
    WWE injury.

According to Prowrestlingsheet.com, Lashley is currently recovering from
elbow surgery to remove some bone spurs. The injury is not considered
career threatening in any way as it is a common procedure that requires a
few months to heal. Lashley is currently scheduled to return to WWE on November 2, though this is a Saturday and the date is likely more of an approximation.

I wonder if this was part of it. Check out a big bump involving Lashley
    from last month:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s quite the relief as the injury could have been something a lot worse. Bone spurs aren’t the best news in the world but at least they are something that can be cured and fixed in one move. Lashley is someone
who can offer a lot to the company, even as a role player. Let him take
the time off and heal, because at his age he might not have much time left
    in the ring.

What do you want to see Lashley do when he gets back? Who should he feud
with first? Let us know in the comments below.

There Is Magic Left In Him. Goldbergs Return Draws Major Numbers For WWE.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 09:19 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/magic-left-goldbergs-return-draws-major-numbers-wwe/

The man knows something about running up big numbers. WWE has been on a nostalgia kick as of late in an attempt to get the fans interested in their product again. One such major name has been Goldberg, who has not only returned to WWE for the second time in less than two months but will also
be wrestling on Summerslam. As it turns out, the fans are interested.

According to Ringsidenews.com, the video of Goldberg’s return on WWE’s YouTube page was the #11 trending video in the world on Tuesday. Since the video was posted, it has reached 3.3 million views in about twenty four
hours. For the sake of a comparison, only one other video from Monday
Night Raw broke two million views (Roman Reigns being attacked by a car). Goldberg is currently scheduled to face Dolph Ziggler at Summerslam.

Keep that total going up. Check out Goldberg’s return video:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Goldberg is one of those stars who demands attention. He has been treated as a big deal over the years and there is a reason to pay attention
to him when he shows up. The intensity alone is worth seeing and his match with Ziggler should be exciting if nothing else. It is all but guaranteed
to be better than Goldberg vs. Undertaker, which was an all time disaster.

Did you like Goldberg’s return? How often should he wrestle? Let us know
    in the comments below.

Someone Had To Say Something. A FOX Executive Talks SmackDown Lives
    Ratings Woes.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 09:16 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/someone-say-something-fox-executive-talks-smackdown-lives-ratings-woes/

You knew someone was going to ask about it. As I’m pretty sure you’ve heard, SmackDown Live is less than two months away from moving over to FOX
in the biggest change the show has ever seen. However, things aren’t going so well for the show in the ratings and viewership departments as the
audience just isn’t caring about what the show is doing. Someone at FOX
has to have an opinion on that.

In a new interview with The Big Lead, Fox Sport Senior Vice President of
Sales Mark Evans was asked about SmackDown Live’s ratings and viewership issues. Evans sounded positive about the move, saying that FOX knew how to pump life into WWE, which they view as a home run. WWE is going to be presented as part of FOX’s sports package, including the NFL and college football coverage.

This could be a big part of SmackDown Live. Check out the big surprise
    ending:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: While SmackDown Live’s ratings and audiences aren’t strong at the moment, there is a real chance that they will blow Monday Night Raw out of
the water when Monday Night Football rolls around. Both shows are getting
a bit steadier and WWE has a built in audience, but they need something to
keep people watching. I know WWE will be working on some ideas, though I’m not sure if they’ll be enough.

How will SmackDown Live do on FOX? Will its audience beat Monday Night
Raw? Let us know in the comments below.

Thats A Big Role To Play. WWE Thinks It Has Its New Bruno Sammartino.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 08:37 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/thats-big-role-play-wwe-thinks-new-bruno-sammartino/

Those are some serious boots to fill. Wrestling is an industry that is
heavily built on its own history. A wrestler winning or losing a match is going to mean a lot more or less depending on what their opponent has done before. Some legends are much bigger deals than others and a lot of modern legends are going to try to recreate previous glories. WWE has that in
mind now but it’s going to be a lot of work.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, new Monday Night Raw Executive
Director Paul Heyman wants Goldberg to be a recreation of Bruno Sammartino
in the 1980s. During the 80s, Sammartino, who was long past his prime,
came in for some matches where he was treated as a major legend but rarely
won anything of significance. Goldberg is currently scheduled to face
    Dolph Ziggler at Summerslam.

The Man is back. Check out Goldberg’s return to set up the Ziggler match: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That might be pushing it a bit as Sammartino is as big of a legend
as there was in the 80s, though Goldberg does have value in this role. He
can come in, run through someone, get a big reaction and leave without
being exposed. That’s how you use someone like Goldberg and Heyman is
smart enough to make someone like that work. You can’t recreate
Sammartino, but doing what Goldberg did before is certainly possible.

Can this idea possibly work? Who could work in the role? Let us know in
    the comments below.

Keep Them Coming. New Title Match Announced For Summerslam.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 08:34 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/keep-coming-new-title-match-announced-summerslam/

There’s room for one more. We’re coming up on Summerslam with less than a week to go before one of the biggest show of the year. If there is one
thing that WWE has shown the ability to do, it is to add as many matches as they can at the last minute. That is the case again, but this time around
they have waited until almost the last possible minute to add a title match.

This week on 205 Live, Oney Lorcan won a Six Pack Challenge to become the
new #1 contender to the Cruiserweight Title. Lorcan defeated Tony Nese,
Ariya Daivari, Akira Tozawa, Kalisto and Jack Gallagher to earn a shot at champion Drew Gulak on Sunday at Summerslam. This is Lorcan’s first shot
at the title and his first singles match against Gulak in WWE.

Lorcan has been on a role of late. Check out one of his more dominant performances:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Lorcan vs. Gulak is the match that makes the most sense here as
Lorcan has been built up over the last several weeks and was the most
logical move, especially given how little time they had to set everything
up. This is as good as it can get given the circumstances and the match
should be quite good given how strong Lorcan has been over the last few
    weeks.

Does this match work for you? Who will leave as the champion? Let us know

(WATCH): Even He Sounds Scared. Bray Wyatt Previews Summerslam In The
    Firefly Fun House.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 08:31 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-even-sounds-scared-bray-wyatt-previews-summerslam-firefly-fun-house/

He’s still around. There are very few more interesting characters in wrestling at the moment since Bray Wyatt. Over the spring and summer,
Wyatt began airing a series of vignettes called the Firefly Fun House,
showing what seemed to be Wyatt’s way of coping with the evil inside of
him. That evil manifested itself as the Fiend, but that doesn’t mean the
    Fun House is gone.

On this week’s SmackDown Live, Wyatt was back with another edition of the Firefly Fun House, which featured him talking about how Finn Balor, his opponent for Summerslam, is not afraid of anything. Wyatt did not seem to
mind that, but seemed to think that Balor has made a mistake by calling out
the Fiend. The match will be Wyatt’s first televised match in a year and
his first match as the Fiend.

There’s a lot inside his head. Check out the latest Firefly Fun House:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m glad that these things are still around as they’re some of the best produced segments that WWE has put out in a long time. Wyatt is one
of the best talkers in the company and these things are very entertaining.
The Fiend isn’t exactly the kind of person who can talk but Wyatt’s more laid back persona is something that can open a lot more doors for the character.

Which version of Wyatt do you like best? Should the Fun house continue?

(VIDEO): Whodunit? Roman Reigns Attacker Revealed On SmackDown Live (And
    It Was A Surprise).

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 08:29 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/whodunit-roman-reigns-attacker-revealed-smackdown-live-surprise/

Come on down man. One of the biggest stories heading into Summerslam has
been Roman Reigns being attacked. Someone has been trying to take Reigns
out with a forklift and then a car but neither has quite succeeded. It was fairly clear that this would lead to a match at Summerslam but first, we
needed to know who was trying to take Reigns out. Now we seem to know.

This week on SmackDown Live, Rowan was revealed as the attacker as Buddy
Murphy said that he saw Rowan at the sight of the forklift. Murphy specifically said that he had not seen Rowan’s partner Daniel Bryan
involved. The show ended with Rowan and Bryan staring at Reigns on the
video screen but not saying anything. At the moment, no match has been announced for Summerslam.

And heres how the reveal went. Check out Murphy naming a name:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s quite the surprise twist, though it wouldn’t surprise me to see it wind up being Bryan. He and Rowan are a team, but Bryan would make
more sense as the mastermind behind the whole thing. The problem seems to
be that they had to rush the story, which could use another week to really hammer home the buildup. Rowan is far from a bad choice, though I was
    pulling for Murphy.

Do you like this choice? How do you see the match going? Let us know in

Is Brock Lesnars Dominant Booking Damaging his SummerSlam Feud with Seth Rollins in WWE?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 07:11 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tomclark/brock-lesnars-dominant-booking-damaging-suumerslam-feud-seth-rollins-wwe/

Seth Rollins came face-to-face with WWE Universal champion Brock Lesnar on
the August 5 edition of Monday Night Raw and promptly went down in a heap
on the mat. Once again, The Beast Incarnate was just too much for The Beastslayer and unfortunately for WWE, Seth’s efforts to win the audience over were unsuccessful.

Rollins gave a good effort on the mic as he struggled to get back to his
feet. But the Pittsburgh crowd did nothing but chant, laugh and otherwise ignore, the former Universal champion. While this was just one Raw on one night, the fact is that it’s indicative of the failing storyline between Lesnar and Rollins. So why is this not working?

To understand why this feud has gone south, fans must first understand the problems that exist with Brock’s overall booking. Simply blaming Lesnar is not the answer however, as his character has been directed by WWE Creative. Brock may have more freedom than other top performers to a certain extent,
but that freedom likely does not mean he calls his own shots every time
    he’s on TV.

Zero creative control means that Lesnar, like everyone else on the roster, follows the plan and does what is asked of him. He’s the biggest star in
the company and he’s been booked as such, but at the end of the day, he’s just a man playing his part. So does that mean WWE is to blame for the way things are going in the Lesnar/Rollins angle right now?

    Relive Rollins feud with Lesnar!

WWE backed itself into a corner with Brock a long time ago. From the moment
he returned to the company in 2012, Lesnar’s booking as an all-powerful monster was stronger than it ever had been. His eight year absence from WWE
did nothing to slow him down and if anything, he was more dominant than
ever before. He was the former UFC champion whose skill set had risen above professional wrestling and that meant he was unstoppable.

WWE set Lesnar on a path to the top and who can fault them for that? Brock
was available and he was willing to do business. Despite who was the face
of the company or who was wearing the championship, WWE would have been
foolish to pass on Brock Lesnar. But somewhere along the way, the Beast overshadowed the industry.

Many veteran pro wrestlers, Triple H included, have said in the past that
no one is bigger than the business. But that is not the case with Brock
Lesnar, as his star burns brighter than WWE. He’s made it clear that he doesn’t need the company, while the company has made it clear that it doesn’t want to operate without him.

It could be said that WWE is merely feeding Lesnar’s ego. But the fact remains that Brock continues to be used seven years after his return, even though WWE has a locker room full of budding main event stars.

Watch Lesnar destroy Rollins on Raw!

Of course if the spotlight isn’t shining on those stars, then how can they get over? Silly storylines and 50-50 booking have not helped matters at
all. No matter how talented today’s talents are, it’s virtually impossible to overcome bad planning. Without the WWE machine behind them, the current
crop of Superstars don’t have a prayer of succeeding in 2019. But that’s been the case from the start. So why does WWE continue to lean on Brock
    Lesnar?

It’s as if the company is making a statement every time Lesnar comes back
to the fold. That statement concerns Lesnar’s star-power and how it exists above everyone else. Does WWE indeed view Lesnar as the biggest star in the locker room?

Why hasn’t WWE elevated another Superstar to Brock’s level? Lesnar is in phenomenal shape and he can still get it done in the ring, but he’s 42 and he’s not getting any younger. So when does the company move on?

The problem with all of these questions is that WWE doesn’t seem to be in
any rush to provide any answers. Brock Lesnar is still the Universal
champion and chances are, he will remain the champion after his match with
Seth at SummerSlam on August 11. Rollins guaranteed a win and WWE obviously wants fans to believe in him.

But when the bell rings and Brock Lesnar does Brock Lesnar stuff in the
ring, all bets are off. The only guarantee is destruction and the most
likely outcome is a Lesnar victory.

Watch Seth stand up to Brock on Raw!

Perhaps the reason behind the overall fan disinterest in this storyline is
the fact that many believe they know how it will all end. Rollins got the
win over Brock at WrestleMania 35, but that may be the last time. WWE threw
a bone to the crowd with Seth’s victory and then it was back to business as usual with Lesnar just three months later.

If fans are right with that assessment, then there’s simply no reason to
get excited about Lesnar versus Rollins at SummerSlam. Even if Seth does go over, how long will it be until Brock once again takes him down? Rollins is still delivering in the ring and he’s still a top babyface in the company.

But if the crowd’s faith in him is outweighed by their dread of Brock’s monster booking, then what can WWE do to right the ship?

The fact is that Lesnar shows no signs of slowing down and WWE shows no
signs of moving on. He always does business and he goes along with whatever plan the company has for him. But that plan usually calls for Brock to
smash and destroy. So even though many fans love Seth, it may not be enough
for them to fully invest in him against the man that WWE continues to
    invest in at every turn.

It Came Early. Summerslam Match Takes Place On SmackDown Live, Seems To Be
    Off Sundays Card.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 06:31 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/came-early-summerslam-match-takes-place-smackdown-live-seems-off-sundays-card/

Why wait? We are less than five days away from Summerslam and that means things are starting to pick up. Summerslam is the second biggest show of
the year and the show is going to be a big deal just by definition. With
so much going on, it isn’t clear how things are going to go or how
everything is going to fit into the card, but it seems that one match might
    not be taking place.

This week on SmackDown Live, Sami Zayn was in the ring talking about
Aleister Black when Black appeared on the stage. Black said that their Summerslam match was taking place tonight instead of on Sunday and the
match did indeed take place. Black won a short match clean with Black
Mass. At the moment, there is no word on if the match will be taking place
on Sunday or if it will be replaced by something else.

Black got what he wanted. Check out his request for a fight:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure what was up with this as there is little reason to
have the match early instead of just waiting for Sunday. Maybe they’ll do
a rematch there, but the match had a pretty definitive ending with Black kicking Zayn’s head off for the pin. It worked well enough, but it came
out of nowhere and doesn’t seem to have much of a purpose other than to
clear time off of the show.

Should the match happen at Summerslam too? What should the two of them do otherwise? Let us know in the comments below.

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results - August 6, 2019

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 05:06 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/smackdown-live-coverage-results-august-6-2019/

    Smackdown

    Date: August 6, 2019

Location: Little Caesar’s Arena, Detroit, Michigan

Commentators: Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton

It’s the final show before Summerslam though it feels like we could have another month’s worth before the show. A lot of the feuds have felt like they’ve been rushed on the way there so hopefully they can take care of something tonight. The big story is Shane McMahon on the Kevin Owens Show because of course it’s Shane. Let’s get to it.

Here’s Charlotte to open things up. She talks about how great she is,
making her the real greatest of all time. Charlotte is here every week
because she wants to be great but Trish is just here for one more match. Someone truly great would not have ran away as the Women’s Revolution came. The athletes of today are far superior to those of Trish’s era and on
    Sunday, Charlotte can prove it.

For tonight though, here’s a video of Charlotte’s greatest moments. Hang on though as the video is about Trish, who comes out with a smile. Trish talks about how she wants to come back to prove it to herself and her family. We
get a quote from Harley Race, who says there is no better place in the
world than underneath those bright lights.

We look back at last night’s Ziggler/Miz/Shawn/Goldberg segment.
    Dolph Ziggler vs. Rey Mysterio

Ziggler does a full Goldberg entrance (minus pyro of course) and jumps Rey before the bell. A superkick leaves Rey laying and there’s no match.

Ziggler rants about how he just took out another legend and promises to
make Sunday Goldberg’s last match. Cue Ali and we have a replacement.
    Ali vs. Dolph Ziggler

Ali nails a spinwheel kick and a suicide dive and we take a break before
the bell. Back with Ali making a comeback and striking away, including a
high kick to the head. The rolling X Factor gets two but Ziggler flips him
over with a clothesline. Sweet Chin Music misses and Ali gets two off a
rollup. The superkick finishes Ali at 1:46 shown.

Result: Dolph Ziggler b. Ali Superkick (1:46)

We look back at the attacks on Roman Reigns.

We look back at Brock Lesnar attacking Seth Rollins last night and Rollins promising to beat Lesnar.

We get a sitdown interview with Reigns, who isn’t sure how to handle
someone he can’t see attacking him. WWE has been offering him personal security but he’s a man who isn’t doing that. The big question is who is behind this. Reigns doesn’t know, but he apologizes to Samoa Joe for
accusing him. The attacker is still out there and he’s getting answers tonight.

Here’s the Harley Race tribute video.
    Ember Moon vs. Natalya

Moon kicks her in the face to start and hits the running Downward Spiral. Natalya bails to the apron to avoid the Eclipse but pulls Moon down into
the Sharpshooter on the floor. That’s a double countout at 1:23.

Result: Ember Moon vs. Natalya went to a double countout (1:23)

Bayley runs out for the save.

It’s time for the Kevin Owens Show with Owens wasting no time in calling
out Shane McMahon. Shane comes out and has Greg Hamilton do the intro,
which Owens cancels in a hurry. Owens has been asked a lot of things over
the last few weeks, as the fans are wondering why Shane’s career isn’t on the line as well. The answer is simple: he’s a McMahon and can do whatever
he wants. Owens has an appeal to Shane though: put up his career against
Owens and give the fans what they want.

That’s not happening as Shane has Owens where he wants him. Shane talks
about how he could beat Owens in a variety of ways but Owens calls him out
for a lack of testicular fortitude. They’re ready to fight right now but here’s Elias for a distraction. They head outside with another Elias distraction earning him a Stunner on the announcers’ table. That’s enough for Shane to get in some shots from behind and turn the announcers’ table
on him. Shane dropkicks a chair into his face to leave Owens laying.

Here’s Sami Zayn to talk about Aleister Black. Sami offered Black a gift by picking a fight to him but Black has locked himself in a dark room where he
can be safe. Mr. PICK A FIGHT WITH ME doesn’t want to fight Sami at Summerslam because he’s terrified of what is coming. Cue Black, who talks from his rising platform, saying the match is happening now instead of at Summerslam.
    Sami Zayn vs. Aleister Black

Black kicks him down to the floor and we take an early break. Back with
Sami hammering away and getting some near falls off a clothesline. Black’s strikes are cut off with a backbreaker and a chinlock, which lasts all of a
few seconds. Black is right back up with the running strikes to the head
and a standing Lionsault drops Sami again. Black Mass finishes Sami at 5:49.

Result: Aleister Black b. Sami Zayn Black Mass (5:49)

Shelton Benjamin is asked about competing for the 24/7 Title. Shelton: “Well.”

It’s time for the Firefly Fun House. As Huskus the Pig eats a bunch of chocolate, Bray pops in to say Finn Balor isn’t scared of anything. That sounds like ignorance in disguise because Finn invited the Fiend to his doorstep willingly. Bray gets serious and seems to be having trouble controlling himself. The Fiend is coming so let him in.

Elias makes fun of Chad Gable for being short and even quotes Randy
    Newman’s Short People song.

Kofi Kingston talks about getting here in spite of Randy Orton. He was
starting to stand out in his feud with Orton but then Orton might have used
his influence to hold him back. Now Kofi has succeeded no matter what and
