    Ring of Honor

    Date: July 31, 2019

    Location: 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana, Caprice Coleman

We’re still in Philadelphia and in this case we have a big time main event between a pair of brother tag teams with Rush/Dragon Lee vs. the Briscoes. These four are going to beat the heck out of each other and that’s what you want from a match between them. Other than that, we get to see what else is
out there in something like this. Let’s get to it.

We open with a video on the tag match.
    Josh Woods vs. Silas Young

Young bails straight to the floor at the bell and grabs the mic. He has something to say: what has Woods done since he’s been in Ring of Honor?
Woods is a multi time National Champion and should be winning titles around here. Does Woods just want to come out here and get some golf claps while
cute girls hoot at him? It seems to Young that Woods has a lot of learning
to do so put up or shut up. The referee takes the mic and it’s a low blow into a small package to give Silas the pin at 2:37.

Result: Silas Young b. Josh Woods Small package (2:37)

We look back at last week’s street fight. Note that commentary says that we’re doing this because the previous match was shorter than expected.

Jay Lethal talks about how awesome it was to wrestle in Madison Square
Garden. Going there was the coolest train ride in his life but the ride
back was the worst because he lost the World Title without getting pinned
or tapping out. He wants the title back.
Shinobi Shadow Squad vs. Joe Keys/Dante Caballero/Brian Johnson

Ryan Nova kicks Keys in the head to start and it’s quickly off to Isom to slam Caballero. Cheeseburger slaps Johnson to the floor but gets caught in
the corner with Keys uppercutting away. A suplex plants Cheeseburger for
two and Caballero sends him into the corner so the beating can continue.

Caballero hits Keys by mistake though (made better as they’re facing off in the Top Prospect Tournament) and it’s off to Isom to clean house. White
Noise gets two on Caballero but Keys knocks him down again by mistake. With Keys and Johnson taken out, Isom and Nova hold Caballero up for a top rope double stomp from Cheeseburger for the pin at 5:50.

Result: Shinobi Shadow Squad b. Joe Keys/Dante Caballero/Brian Johnson
Assisted top rope double stomp to Caballero (5:50)

Post match Caballero and Keys fight some more.

    Video on Sumie Sakai.
    Sumie Sakai vs. Karissa Rivera

Kelly Klein is on commentary and this is Rivera’s TV debut. Sumie goes for the arm to start but Rivera is right back up with an armbar of her own.
They trade some pinfall attempts and come back from a quick break with
Sumie getting a few more near falls of her own. A Boston crab into a
leglock has Rivera in more trouble until she makes the rope.

Rivera hiptosses her way out of an abdominal stretch and gets two off a
bicycle kick. Smash Mouth gives Sakai two and a missile dropkick is good
for the same. They slug it out until Rivera hits a spinebuster for two of
her own. Smash Mouth is broken up again and Rivera sits down on a sunset
flip attempt for the upset pin at 9:50.

Result: Karissa Rivera b. Sumie Sakai Rollup (9:50)

Post match, Sakai shoves the interviewer out of the way and shakes Rivera’s hand.

Silas Young tells Josh Woods that he is doing Woods a favor.

An edgier Coast to Coast won a match on Honor Club.
    Briscoes vs. Dragon Lee/Rush

It’s a brawl to start with Lee sending Mark to the floor off a
hurricanrana. Jay and Rush trade flips and corner splashes, followed by Jay getting forearmed down. Lee and Mark trade kicks but Lee’s suicide dive is caught in midair for a double suplex.

We take an early break and come back with a notice that this match has been edited for content. Lee is in trouble as Mark hits a swinging suplex before handing it back to Jay for some shots to the face. A double shoulder puts
Lee down again as the fans are WAY into the Briscoes here. Lee sends Mark
into the corner and brings Rush in for the running slap and a nice
reaction. Everything breaks down with the Briscoes being sent into the barricade a few times each.

Back in and Rush makes Jay scream off a chop, setting up a double basement dropkick. A bloody Mark comes back in and gets caught with a basement
dropkick of his own. Rush and Lee hit the Tranquilo pose and we take a
second break. Back again with Mark using a chair for a big springboard flip dive onto everyone. The Froggy Bow (with Mark’s face blurred for the blood) gets two on Rush with Lee making the save to a chorus of booing.

The slugout is on with Mark getting the better of it but getting caught
with a reverse hurricanrana. Jay gives Lee a Death Valley Driver but Rush
is back up with a snap German suplex to put everyone down. It’s Mark up
with a Rock Bottom suplex and Jay loads up the Jay Driller on Rush. That’s broken up without much effort and Lee hits a running hurricanrana over the ropes to send Mark from the apron to the floor (sticking the landing). The Bull’s Horns hits Jay for the pin 13:11.

Result: Rush/Dragon Lee b. Briscoes Bulls Horns to Jay (13:11)

(VIDEO): Count With Them. What Are WWEs Top Five Summerslam Main Events?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 08:35 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-count-wwes-top-five-summerslam-main-events/

There are a lot to pick from. WWE has a long history with big pay per view events, to the point where there are a Big Four pay per views. Several of
them have been around for over thirty years and that means there is a lot
of history to pick from with them. We are coming up on the thirty second edition of Summerslam and WWE thinks it’s time to look back at some of its history.

WWE has posted a new video to its Twitter account, counting down the Top
Five Summerslam main events in the show’s history. The matches are all singles matches and run throughout the various decades of the show.
Several of them involve title changes and all but one are for a World
Title. One of them even includes a major gimmick match which rarely takes place in WWE.

There are a lot of memories here. Check out the countdown:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that I could watch all day as WWE knows
how to brag about its past. There are all kind of matches that have main evented the pay per view over the years and it covers a lot of ground.
Some of the matches might be a bit out of order, but that is always going
to be the case with something like this. The top choice is far from bad, though I would have swapped in #2 instead.

Which of these matches is the best? What did WWE leave off? Let us know
    in the comments below.

(WATCH): You Dont Get To Do This Very Often. Matt Riddle Pins A Humanoid
    Fish, Fish Wants Boxing Rematch.

Riddle him this. As big of a wrestling company as WWE is, NXT might be
more popular, at least among some fans. The stars of the show are likely
to be stars in the WWE one day, which brings some mainstream publicity with
it. That includes some appearances with some more mainstream sports, which
was the case with one of NXT’s rising stars on Sunday.

NXT star Matt Riddle threw out the first pitch at the Tampa Bay Rays vs.
Miami Marlins game on Sunday afternoon. The ceremonial first pitch did not seem to go well and the Rays’ mascot made fun of Riddle for it. In
response, Riddle gave the mascot a running crossbody and counted a pin on
him. Later, the mascot, Raymond, came out wearing boxing gloves to
    challenge Riddle to a rematch.

A tale of two fights. Check out the pitch, the crossbody, and the
    challenge:

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that is goofy fun and there’s nothing wrong with that. Riddle gets to go out there and show some of his natural charisma, which is one of his strong points. The mascot is out there to
let the fans have a good time and that’s exactly what happened here.
Everyone wins, except maybe the mascot who got beaten up and then pinned.

What will Riddle do next in NXT? Will he ever be NXT Champion? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Hes Not All Bad. Heres An Awesome Story About Vince McMahon Doing A Good
    Deed For Harley Race.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 08:26 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/hes-not-bad-heres-awesome-story-vince-mcmahon-good-deed-harley-race/

That deserves credit. Love him or hate him, Vince McMahon is the most
powerful person in wrestling, possibly in its entire history. His
influence is felt up and down the industry and the things he has done have changed wrestling forever. A lot of people don’t like some of the moves
that he has made and that is understandable, though sometimes he does
things that are worthy of some recognition.

Former WWE star Trevor Murdoch recently posted a story on Facebook, talking about McMahon helping Harley Race before he passed away earlier this week.
Race was in Atlanta and needed a medical flight to St. Louis but could not afford one. A phone call was made to WWE and McMahon himself paid the
entire bill. Murdoch also thanked McMahon for giving him two more days
with Race, who had trained Murdoch and was close to him.

You might not remember Murdoch. Check him out in a big six man tag:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s just cool to hear and there’s nothing bad to say about McMahon in this situation. He may be older now and somewhat crazy but at
the same time, he seems to have a love of wrestling and is willing to pay
the money to make something happen. Anyone can put up a nice post on
Twitter but doing something like this shows McMahon going a step further,
which means a lot given his stature and resources.

What is your favorite Race moment? How cool was this of McMahon? Let us
    know in the comments below.

(VIDEO): He Can Do It All. Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Makes Pro
Wrestling Debut And Looks Pretty Good.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 08:22 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-can-former-ufc-heavyweight-champion-makes-pro-wrestling-debut-looks-pretty-good/

It has worked before. There is a strong crossover appeal between
professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. Both involve the in-ring competition, but they also involve a lot of showmanship. That would be
more in the case of professional wrestling, but the skills are certainly similar. It turns out that a lot mixed martial artists make for good wrestlers, and that might be the case again now.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez made his professional
wrestling debut at TripleMania 27 on Saturday night. Velasquez, wearing a luchador mask, competed in a trios match, teaming with Psycho Clown and
Cody to defeat Texano Jr., Taurus and Killer Kross. Velasquez has
suggested that he is willing to wrestle more. He last fought in the UFC on February 17, 2019 in a loss to Frances Ngannou and is still under contract
    to the promotion.

Velasquez looked like a natural out there. Check out some of his
    highlights:
[This post contains video, click to play]
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I don’t know how long of a future Velasquez will have in the sport as he is 37 years old and has a history of injury issues, but he looked
rather good in a match like this. He has star power outside of the ring so
he comes in at a bit of an advantage, which is something that companies
will always like. Maybe he doesn’t go very far, but he had one good performance and that’s more than some people can say.

Will Velasquez keep going as a wrestler? Who is the best mainstream
athlete turned wrestler? Let us know in the comments below.

Seth Rollins Says Intergender Matches Wont Work In WWE

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 07:32 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/derekstoughton/seth-rollins-says-intergender-matches-wont-work-wwe/

Seth Rollins was recently interviewed by the Daily Star to promote his Universal Championship match with Brock Lesnar upcoming at SummerSlam. He discussed a number of topics, including the concept of intergender matches
in WWE, how Twitter is effecting professional wrestling, and more.

Below are some highlights from the interview:

    On intergender matches in WWE:
“There are places for it. But this full on independent style women vs men match where the women are chokeslamming the men? Our business is based in realism a little bit, so lets do that as best we can.”
He added: “I think lets live in a reality a little bit here, I am not
saying women aren’t as good as men because that is not the case. But there is a reason when you go to the Olympics there are mens and womens [sports], there is a reason you have mens and womens soccer, mens and womens basketball. It is not they aren’t as talented, or they are not as good as athletes, but you just need to break it up. There are women out there who
    are incredible.”
“Whether we are going to have full on intergender matches, we may get
there but it is going to take some doing.”
[This post contains video, click to play]

    On Twitter and WWE:
“Twitter seems to be this cesspool of negativity where its so easy to focus on what you don’t like rather than what you do like. People seem to band around negativity, I don’t know if its one of those misery loves company
type things. Before it used to be you would hang out with three or four of your friends and talk about how you don’t like things, now you hang out
with three or four hundred of your friends and talk about how you dont like things. I don’t know, maybe you get more responses on negative tweets or whatever. It is frustrating.”

He discusses these concepts further in the interview.

RUMOR: Who Will Be On The Cover Of The WWE 2K20 Video Game?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 07:21 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/derekstoughton/rumor-will-cover-wwe-2k20-video-game/

This is a rumor, so take it for what its worth. One of the big questions
each year is who will be on the cover of the latest edition of the WWE 2K
video game. In the past, it has brought certain superstars out of the
    shadows, including Goldberg and Sting.

But who will have the honor this year?

According a trailer that was released earlier today, Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch will be co-featured on the cover of the WWE 2K20 video game. You can
see the trailer in its entirety below:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Last year, AJ Styles was the featured superstar on the WWE 2K19 video game.

    Editors Opinion:

Not only is this great news for both The Big Dog and The Man, but they are
both appropriate choices to represent the company in this way. Not only
that, but the trailer for the game itself was pretty cool as well. I
probably wont be playing it, but I know a lot of people that will!
