Fans Are Loving New Hobbs & Shaw Spinoff After Solid Friday Opener

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Stathams new Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw, is off to a good start at the box office domestically. The film opened late Thursday night to $5.8 million in previews, and brought home an estimated
    $23.7 million on Friday.

Its expected to do around $60 million in total for the weekend, which is
right in the middle of the pack for the Fast franchise. If the movie
manages to pass $71 million, itll drive right by the 2009 Fast and Furious relaunch and break into the top five.

Hobbs & Shaw was #1 at the box office for Friday night, followed by Disneys
The Lion King remake, which added another $11.1 million bringing it to
$403.7 million domestically, and a staggering $1.04 billion worldwide.

Critically the film is sitting at a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 219 reviews, which would be tied with 2017s The Fate of the Furious for fourth overall, just under 2013s Fast & Furious 6.

That being said, the film is doing much better among regular viewers, it seems. Hobbs & Shaw is currently sitting at a 90% audience score, based on more than 2,800 reviews at press time, which would make it the most liked
film in the franchises history solely based on audience scores.

Dwayne Johnson Has "Quietly Retired" from Professional Wrestling

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:00 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/dwayne-johnson-has-quietly-retired-from-professional-wrestling/

Dwayne The Rock Johnson appeared on Live with Kelly & Ryan earlier this
week to promote the release of his new movie, Hobbs & Shaw, a spinoff of
the globally popular Fast & Furious series.

Coincidentally enough, lifelong wrestling fan and former WrestleMania
performer Maria Menounos happened to be filling in for Kelly Rippa on the episode, so the two ended up discussing professional wrestling.

When asked if he missed the wrestling business, in which he obviously grew
up and was surrounded by for most of his life, Johnson admitted that he
does miss wrestling, and still loves the industry, but also stated that he
had quietly retired after accomplishing all that he wanted to accomplish in
    the ring.

I miss wrestling. I love wrestling. I quietly retired from wrestling
because I was lucky enough to have a really wonderful career, and
accomplish what I wanted to accomplish. Theres nothing like a live crowd, a live audience, a live microphone

The Rock last stepped between the ropes at WrestleMania 32 when he
announced that WWE had (allegedly) broken its all-time attendance record,
and was interrupted by the Wyatt Family. He then competed in a 6-second
match against Erick Rowan, before John Cena made his surprise return from injury to assist Rock in fighting off the attacking Family.

NJPW G1 Climax Day 13 Results: Kazuchika Okada vs SANADA, Tanahashi vs
    Ibushi

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:00 AM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/njpw-g1-climax-day-13-results-kazuchika-okada-vs-sanada-hiroshi-tanahashi-vs-kota-ibushi/

NJPW G1 Climax Day 13 Results

    Edion Arena, Osaka, Japan

    August 3, 2019

    A Block Tournament Matches

    Bad Luck Fale def. KENTA

Zack Sabre Jr. def. Lance Archer

    EVIL def. Will Ospreay

    Kota Ibushi def. Hiroshi Tanahashi

    SANADA def. Kazuchika Okada

    Updated A Block Standings

    Kazuchika Okada 12
    Kota Ibushi 10
    Hiroshi Tanahashi 8
    EVIL 8
    KENTA 8
    SANADA 6
    Zack Sabre Jr. 6
    Will Ospreay 4
    Lance Archer 4
    Bad Luck Fale 4

With only two more nights of competition remaining in the A Block, the
field is starting to thin in a major way. The biggest name eliminated so
far is KENTA, who started out as a strong frontrunner, but lost key matches
to Okada, SANADA and Bad Luck Fale that pushed him just out of contention.

At long last, SANADA finally defeated Kazuchika Okada something hes been trying to do for years now, unsuccessfully. Thatll put him in line for a
future title shot, but one more win from the champion will put both
Tanahashi and EVIL out of reach of winning the tournament as well. While anything can happen, it appears the A Block is hurdling towards an
    Okada/Ibushi finale on Day 17.

Impact Wrestling Results (8/2): The North Defend Tag Team Titles, Tessa Blanchard vs Madman Fulton

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 07:00 PM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/impact-wrestling-results-8-2-the-north-defend-tag-team-titles-tessa-blanchard-vs-madman-fulton/

    Impact Wrestling Results

    August 2, 2019

    (1) Aiden Prince def. Zachary Wentz, Rohit Raju, Chuck Mambo, Cody Deaner
and Petey Williams in a six-man X-Division scramble

In the oVe clubhouse theyre preparing for Madman Fulton to face Tessa Blanchard a lesson later on tonight. Jake Crist is also celebrating winning
the X-Division Championship last week, and theres some awkwardness between
him and Sami Callihan when he wants to see the title, and he doesnt want to
    let him.

Rich Swann tries to talk sense into Tessa Blanchard, saying Fulton is a psychopath and a 7-foot monster, and he should know. He offers to back her
up in the match, but Tessa is going it alone.

    (2) Havok def. John E. Bravo

Ethan Page and Josh Alexander yell about all the tag title defenses they
have over the next couple of weeks, including tonight. Technically with
them also streaming Unbreakable at the same time, theyre actually defending
    the titles twice simultaniously.

    (3)  Ace Austin def. Stone Rockwell

Eddie Edwards ran out and attacked Ace.

Madison Rayne is the next person in line to offer her help when Tessa Blanchard faces Madman Fulton later in the night, but again shes turned
    down.

    (4) Fallah Bahh def. Moose

Madman Fulton def. Tessa Blanchard via DQ // Near the end of the match
Sami Callihan gave Fulton a steel chair and Tommy Dreamer ran out with a
kendo stick and attacked him, forcing the ref to throw out the match. Tessa and Dreamer both get kendo sticks and work together to beat the hell out of oVe.

Michael Elgin talks about being attacked by Rhino last week. He promises
to put the ECW legend in the hospital, and calls everyone who hes faced so
far in Impact a total coward.

Melissa Santos will prove an update on Brian Cages status next week.

Rhino is interviewed and drops some f-bombs. He doesnt care about legal actions, and he doesnt care that promotions are throwing more money at him
than hes ever made before. All he cares about is violence, and everyones
going to get a fking Gore, Gore, Gore!

The North (c) def. The Rascalz to retain the Impact World Tag Team Championships

Ortiz comes out and attacks The North with a trash can, but is quickly outnumbered. Daga makes the save, and Konnan does not look happy with Ortiz
for his foolish choice of actions.

14 Matches Reported for This Years WWE SummerSlam PPV in Toronto

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 06:00 PM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/3-more-unannounced-matches-reportedly-scheduled-for-wwe-summerslam/

There are 11 matches currently confirmed for this years WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view, taking place at the Scotiabank Arena on Sunday, July 11th.

As noted, one of those announced matches Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz is actually a red herring for a much different bout on the schedule, as a WWE legend is reportedly slated to appear and take on the Showoff.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the internal schedule for
the show is also listing a Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Womens Tag Team Championships. The IIconics are slated to defend their titles against the
teams of Asuka and Kairi Sane, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, as well as
    Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have defended their titles on three occasions,
all on television, in matches totaling about 8 minutes collectively. The
belts have not been defended on WWE pay-per-view since The IIconics won
them at WrestleMania 35, despite a total of six live WWE Network specials having taken place since April.

Other matches currently on the schedule for SummerSlam that have yet to be announced include Drew Gulak defending the WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Oney Lorcan, and Cedric Alexander vs. Drew McIntyre.

With the big news about Roman Reigns expected opponent for the show, that
makes 14 matches in total including those reported about in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The 2018 incarnation of SummerSlam had 13 matches, with 3 matches on the pre-show, and 6 of the matches, including the main event, were under 7
minutes in total. Somehow we still dont have confirmation on an Intercontinental Championship bout, or defenses of either of the mens tag
    team titles.

    Heres the reported match card:

    UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins

    WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Randy Orton

    RAW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

    Becky Lynch (c) vs. Natalya

    SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

    Bayley (c) vs. Ember Moon

    WWE U.S. CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

    AJ Styles (c) vs. Ricochet

IF OWENS LOSES, HE WILL QUIT WWE

    Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon

WWE WOMENS TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

The IIconics (c) vs. Kabuki Warriors vs. Mandy Rose/Sonya Deville vs. Alexa Bliss/Nikki Cross

    WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Drew Gulak (c) vs. Oney Lorcan

    Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor

Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz Goldberg

We Ranked the Top 35 WWE Superstars in SummerSlam History (UPDATED)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 05:30 PM PDT https://www.prowrestling.com/we-ranked-the-top-35-greatest-wwe-superstars-in-summerslam-history/

UPDATE: We have published part two of our list adding five more names. You
can jump straight to #25 at this link, or scroll down to continue through
the article. Check back soon for part three!

    #35 JEFF HARDY

The Charismatic Enigma has been a major part of some big moments throughout SummerSlam history, from the historic TLC match in 2000, to defending his
World Heavyweight Championship in the main event, against CM Punk in 2009.
The problem is, hes literally never won a single match on one of wrestlings biggest stages. Over the course of 18 years he lost on six different
occasions, including two TLC matches and a ladder match.

    #34 DEMOLITION

Ax and Smash have a very short SummerSlam history, but they were
nonetheless an important act during the early years of the pay-per-view.
They successfully defended the WWF World Tag Team Championships against the Hart Foundation at the very first SummerSlam in 88, then teamed with King Duggan in 89 to defeat Andre the Giant and the Twin Towers. They were a
white hot tag team and solid champions, but perhaps the best thing
Demolition ever did at SummerSlam was return the favor in dropping the tag titles and passing the tortch to the Hart Foundation in 1990.

    #33 MR. PERFECT

Curt Hennig was basically the WWFs greatest enhancement talent in the early years of SummerSlam pay-per-views. He was incredible at drawing heat and
they used it to put everyone over. Perfect dropped the Intercontinental Championship to Kerry Von Erich in 90,  won it back and dropped it again to Bret Hart one year later. After interfering in the main event of SummerSlam 1992, Mr. Perfect returned to action in 93 and once again lost an Intercontinental title match this time to a rising Shawn Michaels.
