• [WR] REVIEW: Summerslam 2016: Brock Lesnar Doesnt Like Rules (2/3)

From WrestlingRumors.net@21:1/5 to All on Sat Aug 3 11:13:55 2019
    [continued from previous message]

Balor is someone who is going to get a very positive reaction no matter
what and giving him the title here was entirely the right call.
Balor can barely move his right arm after the match but finally holds the
title up. On his WWE 24 special, he said you could feel and hear the
shoulder crunching and crackling as he lifted the title and it probably did more damage to the arm.
The pre-show channel chats a bit and throws us to a KFC ad with Dolph
Ziggler dressing up as Colonel Sanders to beat up Miz dressed as a chicken. It’s actually dumber than you remember it being.
Here’s Lana to introduce Rusev, albeit while wearing half of a wedding
dress, the bottom of which looks like a diaper. She’s one of the most beautiful women on the roster but she looks ridiculous here.
US Title: Rusev vs. Roman Reigns
Roman is challenging and the booing is strong with this one. Rusev jumps
him before the bell and they fight out to the floor with Roman being sent
into the steps. The fans chant RUSEV MACHKA because they’ve given up on America over their hatred for Reigns. Roman gets in a Superman Punch as the bell hasn’t rung yet. They fight over a chair with Reigns getting the
better of it and destroying Rusev. Reigns finally leaves but comes back
with a spear, all while the fans chant WE WANT SLATER. No match of course, likely due to time issues.
We recap Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar. This match was announced as Orton’s return match from surgery and the build focused on Orton being able to hit
the RKO anytime, including a sweet moment where Orton interrupted a Lesnar promo with an RKO. The hype video even includes some OVW clips as they came
up through developmental together and debuted within a few months of each other. This had a heck of a build and felt like something important but the question was whether Lesnar would have an actual match or just do his usual Lesnar stuff.
    Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar
Heyman handles Lesnar’s introduction, saying he’s conquering out of the University of Suplex City. Brock seems to get into his MMA stance to start before driving Orton into the corner for the shoulders to the ribs. Orton escapes the first German suplex attempt but can’t hit the RKO.
Now the first suplex connects (with Mauro knowing that it’s the 33rd Lesnar has hit at Summerslam because he’s awesome that way) and Brock follows with two more. Orton is almost out on his feet so Lesnar suplexes him again.
It’s nothing but suplexes at this point and it’s already getting dull. They head outside for a much needed change of pace with Orton being thrown over
    the announcers’ table.
Orton gets thrown from the front row through the table as this is
dominance. The other table is loaded up but whatever Lesnar is trying is countered into the RKO onto (not through) the table. The hanging DDT plants Lesnar back inside and another RKO gets two. Orton realizes he has no
choice and tries the Punt, only to have it reversed into the F5 (bad one)
    for two more.
That’s enough for Lesnar so he takes off the gloves and pads and hammers on Orton. An elbow to the head actually busts Orton open VERY badly. Lesnar
just keeps hammering on him while the fans chant GOLDBERG until the referee FINALLY stops it at 11:47. I’ve heard a bunch of answers about what
happened but I believe this was the planned ending and a hard way opening. Rating: D. Yeah this didn’t work when it happened and it didn’t work again this time around. Lesnar suplexing Orton for five minutes then selling a
few big moves doesn’t make me think it’s an awesome main event. This was everything wrong with Lesnar’s current WWE run in one match and that made
for a really dull match, save for the odd finish that seemed designed to protect Orton. You know, after he was basically squashed.
Lesnar keeps hammering on him until the always intimidating Shane McMahon
comes out, earning himself an F5 (which thankfully didn’t lead anywhere). Heyman panics as they leave to end the show.
Overall Rating: B-. If you cut an hour (or more) out of this, it’s
bordering on the classic level. As it is, this is just a good show that
runs WAY too long. At some point you have to cut something out and WWE just refuses to do that. Cut out the Dudleys match or the women’s tag and give
us some breathing room here because sweet goodness this show could use it.
Now that being said, there’s some outstanding stuff on here with the Styles vs. Cena match as an instant classic, the Women’s Title being very good, a great Universal Title match and really only the Tag Team Title match being without much value. The show is certainly good and the positives outweigh
the negatives but unless the show is a masterpiece, fans are going to start losing interest near the end. It’s a solid show but cut out a good forty minutes to really make it great.

(WATCH): Thats A Rare One. There Is Going To Be A Musical Based On A
    Former WWE Champion.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 08:18 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-thats-rare-one-going-musical-based-former-wwe-champion/

That’s a different way to honor someone. There are a lot of legends in wrestling history with various names being praised over the years in a
variety of ways. Several big names in WWE history have received DVD
releases, biographies, books and various other tributes. At the same time though, there are other historic names who have not received such a
tribute. Now though, one is getting a rather unique method of praise.

According to Broadwayworld.com, a dramatic parody play called Rockquiem For
A Wrestler is in development, having already been written and having
undergone a first reading. The play is inspired by the life of former WWE Champion Ivan Koloff, who broke Bruno Sammartino’s seven plus year reign as champion in 1971, holding the title for three weeks. There is no word on
when the play would open for performances.

The writer has released a short video on the play, including some clips of Koloff in action:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure what to think about this but it’s certainly something very different. It’s something that very few (if any) wrestler is going to have done for them and Koloff, while not the most famous name in wrestling history, certainly does deserve a tribute in one way or another. Somehow
he isn’t even in the WWE Hall of Fame, but this is certainly a more unique way of going about honoring him.

Is this a good idea? Would you watch a play inspired by Koloff? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Its Not Something Everyone Can Do. Wrestling Personalities To Appear On Celebrity Family Feud.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 08:14 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/not-something-everyone-can-wrestling-personalities-appear-celebrity-family-feud/

I guess they can touch the buzzers? Wrestling is in an interesting place
in the world of pop culture. Fans love it, but the mainstream world
doesn’t seem to know if wrestling should be considered entertainment or a sport. This is of course completely different from reality television,
which is considered completely entertainment and somehow often treated
better. Now, a reality show about wrestlers is getting some mainstream attention.

As announced on WWE.com, the Bella Twins and their family from the cast of Total Bellas will be appearing on ABC’s Celebrity Family Feud on August
    18. The Twins will be joined by their brother JJ Garcia, their mother
Kathy Laurinaitis and cousin Lauren Jennifer Garcia as they play against a
team of mixed martial artists with the winning team receiving money for a charity of their choice.

Wrestlers have been on Family Feud before. Check out some full episodes
    from back in the day:

Opinion: That’s certainly not the kind of thing that you see every day but it’s cool to see some wrestlers getting some attention. I know the Bellas might not be the most popular names in wrestling but they have the kind of mainstream appeal that can get them on a show like this. If nothing else,
it could be funny to hear some of their answers, with the Bellas not being known for the most logical responses at times.

Will you be watching the show? Do you want to see the Bellas in WWE
again? Let us know in the comments below.

Hey Down There. WWE Star Officially Moved To NXT Roster.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 07:48 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/hey-wwe-star-officially-moved-nxt-roster/

Does that count as a demotion? There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE
roster, ranging from the main Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live lineups
and all the way down to the NXT house show circuit. That leaves a lot of places for wrestlers to go and a lot of them move up and down the lineups
with a good deal of freedom. As it turns out, one name is moving down to
NXT and that might not be a bad thing.

Fandango’s official WWE.com profile has now been moved to the NXT section, meaning that he will be on the NXT roster permanently. Fandango recently
made his WWE return on NXT to save his Breezango partner Tyler Breeze from
the Forgotten Sons. While Fandango did win the fourth season of the competition version of NXT, he has only wrestled one match in the better
known version. Fandango has been out of action for over a year with a
    shoulder injury.

The boys are back. Check out Breezango’s return announcement:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is probably what is best for everyone involved. It is clear
that WWE isn’t interested in giving Breeze any kind of a push on the main roster and Breeze has had success with Fandango. Let them go down to NXT
where they will be treated as bigger stars and might even have some more success. The talent is there, so it’s better to let them do anything
instead of wasting away on the main roster.

What do you expect from Breezango in NXT? Will they win the Tag Team
Titles? Let us know in the comments below.

They Did It Again. AEW Has Some Positive News About Their TNT Debut.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 07:46 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/aew-positive-news-tnt-debut/

The hot start continues. AEW has burst onto the wrestling scene this year
with very few things being able to slow them down. Their first event took place in May and they are now two months away from their weekly television series debuting on TNT. That’s quite the accomplishment and as it turns
out, they already have another thing to brag about on their resume.

According to All Elite Wrestling’s Twitter, the debut episode of AEW on TNT has sold out the day tickets went on sale. There is no word on how many tickets were sold, but the Capital One Arena holds about 20,000 fans for a basketball game. While the current crop of tickets is sold out, more
tickets will be released when the production situation has been figured out
and the total number of seats is set.

Tickets to #AEWs TNT network debut on Wed, Oct 2, 2019 at Washington D.C.s @CapitalOneArena are currently #SOLDOUT, THANK YOU!

AEW Fans: Please continue to check in via https://t.co/lZXODJGKNs & https://t.co/xD1UKLjrvj on a recurring basis as tickets may be released for sale. pic.twitter.com/PEbY75eLkz

    SOLD OUT??

Thank you all so very much.

(Do not give up hope on being there live though, we should be lifting
potential camera/production holds as we get closer to the event. Keep
    checking at https://t.co/tzvxkxvV0O ) pic.twitter.com/lScHFwc4cd

    Sold out.

The company is ready for their debut. Check out the trailer for the first show:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: They’re on a roll right now and it is very cool to see them doing this well with so little history to them so far. The show is going to have
a nice crowd for the first show, but what matters for their future is
keeping that many fans around going forward. It isn’t about the debut episode but the 37th or so show going well. They need to keep it up and so far, their results would suggest they can do just that.

Are you excited for the show? What do you expect to happen? Let us know

(FUNNY VIDEO): Its On Her Mind. Ronda Rousey Releases Trailer For
Wrestling Horror Movie, Paige And D-Von Co-Star.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 06:57 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/funny-video-mind-ronda-rousey-releases-trailer-wrestling-horror-movie-paige-d-von-co-star/

She has a sense of humor. Last year, Ronda Rousey debuted on the WWE stage
and took the wrestling world by storm. She had her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 and then headlined WrestleMania 35 in an historic match. That’s the kind of thing that no one other than Brock Lesnar does and
Rousey pulled it off. Though she is currently on hiatus from WWE, she
still has wrestling on her mind.

Rousey has released a new video to her YouTube page, featuring a trailer
for a mock survival horror film called TABLES, also featuring D-Von Dudley
and Paige. This is the second comedic wrestling themed video from Rousey,
who posted a video about wrestling still being on her mind earlier in the summer. Rousey also released another video of deleted scenes and bloopers
from the trailer. There is no word on when Rousey will be back in WWE.

She does have a sense of humor. Check out the trailer and gag reel:

[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’ve been a Rousey fan for a long time now and this is a good
reason why. She has a sense of humor to her and is keeping herself in the minds of wrestling fans instead of letting herself fade away. This was
good for a chuckle and that is exactly what she was going for. I’m hoping she’s back sooner rather than later, but the amount of time she is away is going to determine how big of an impact she can make, which makes things
    that much better.

Was the video funny? When do you expect Rousey to be back in WWE? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Thats Just Bad. Injury Update On NXT Talent, Out For A Long Time.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 06:52 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/thats-just-bad-injury-update-nxt-talent-long-time/

Ouch indeed. There are a lot of injuries in professional wrestling and
some of them are a lot more serious than others. Some of them will keep
you out of action for days while others can put it at closer to a year.
You can often tell how bad something is going to be just by looking at the injury itself and unfortunately, that was the case with a recent knee
    injury to an NXT talent.

On Friday, Rachel Evers tweeted that she has torn her ACL after an injury during an NXT match last Saturday in Florida. The injury took place during
a match against Lacey Lane when Evers planted her leg wrong and went down, causing the match to be stopped. Evers is scheduled for surgery on both Tuesday and Wednesday and there is no timetable for her return to the ring.

    pic.twitter.com/qG5dPh5Twq

    - Rachael Evers (@RachaelEversWWE) August 2, 2019

Evers is a little better when she’s healthy. Check out one of her matches from the Mae Young Classic:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s the kind of thing that you can never plan for and it shows just how fast a career can change in wrestling. This injury took place
because someone’s foot landed wrong in a spot that she has probably done a thousand times. You can’t prepare for that and it was a fluke accident. Hopefully Evers can get better sooner rather than later because no one
deserves that kind of career altering injury.

What have you thought of Evers so far? Can she be a star in NXT? Let us
    know in the comments below.

    205 Live Results - July 30, 2019

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 06:07 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/205-live-results-july-30-2019/

    205 Live

    Date: July 30, 2019

    Location: FedExForum, Memphis, Tennessee

Commentators: Aiden English, Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness

It’s an interesting change of pace this week with General Manager Drake Maverick fighting Mike Kanellis for the sake of his wife’s honor. The fact that Mike’s wife is the only champion in the whole thing is just confusing. Other than that, we’re still in need of a #1 contender and I’m not sure if they have time to set up anything worthwhile. Let’s get to it.

We open with a long recap of Maverick vs. Kanellis, which has been going on since the spring. Mike’s wife Maria is demanding that he be a man and tonight, Mike is fighting to appease her as well. Mike finally pushed him
too far and Drake is standing up for himself and his wife.
Brian Kendrick/Akira Tozawa vs. Singh Brothers

This is over a stolen Bollywood trophy, which is now awarded to the
commentary team. Sunil starts fast and stomps Tozawa down in the corner but
he strikes away and smiles, with the mouthpiece offering a nice bonus
visual. Kendrick comes in for two off of Tozawa’s backsplash and it’s off to the armbar. A running enziguri/Downward Spiral combination gets two on
Sunil but Samir breaks up a suicide headbutt attempt.

The dancing begins and now let’s talk about Charlotte vs. Trish Stratus because the match is that uninteresting. Tozawa fights out of a chinlock
but gets hit in the ribs to put him right back down. The chinlock goes on again, only to have Tozawa fight up again. This time it’s an enziguri to Samir and the hot tag brings in Kendrick. A dropkick gives Kendrick two so it’s time to grab the award. Sunil hits Samir by mistake though and it’s Sliced Bread #2 into the top rope backsplash to give Tozawa the pin at 5:49.

Result: Brian Kendrick/Akira Tozawa b. Singh Brothers Top rope backsplash
    to Samir (5:49)

It isnt the most surprising result:

[This post contains video, click to play]
We get the last part of the Humberto Carrillo interview, this time talking about wanting to win the Cruiserweight Title and how awesome the 205 Live roster really is.

Lucha House Party is split on Carrillo, with Lince Dorado thinking a real luchador should wear a mask.
    Lince Dorado vs. Ariya Daivari

They trade wristlocks to start with Daivari mocking the LUCHA chants early
on. Some early near fall attempts go nowhere but Daivari bails to the floor
to avoid the Golden Rewind. That means a delayed dive from Dorado, followed
by a springboard splash for two back inside. A running hurricanrana into a dropkick gives Dorado two but Daivari sends him outside in a big crash. The chinlock doesn’t last long back inside and Dorado makes it worse by
    blocking the Iconoclasm.

Daivari settles for a rather nice snap DDT for two but since he’s a bit of
a cocky heel, he spends too much time mocking the Jerry Lawler middle rope punch. Dorado gets a boot up and Daivari heads outside, meaning it’s a slingshot dive. Back in and Dorado tries a very far dive, which is
superkicked out of the air for two. The Billion Real Dream is countered
into a victory roll for two so Daivari hits a Rock Bottom for two of his
own. Dorado is right back up and kicks Daivari in the head, setting up a spinning rollup into a jackknife pin at 9:47.

Result: Lince Dorado b. Ariya Daivari Jackknife pin (9:47)

    One of the three:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Drew Gulak wants a challenger at Summerslam and if Mike Kanellis wins
tonight, maybe he gets the title shot. Otherwise, Drew is back where he
started and that doesn’t work. Whoever faces him at Summerslam is in for
    pain and punishment.
    Drake Maverick vs. Mike Kanellis

Unsanctioned. Drake comes out to the 205 Live theme instead of his own
song. Mike jumps him from behind during the entrances and Drake gets sent
into the set. More whips send Drake into the barricade and Mike puts a sign
in his face for a bonus. Since the bell hasn’t rung yet, Mike thinks that’s enough for a forfeit. Drake gets in and says ring the bell so Mike kicks
    him into the corner.

Mike shouts about following Drake’s rules for too long before sending him outside again. Another whip into the barricade takes Maverick down again
and Mike does it a few more times for good measure. Drake gets sent face
first onto the announcers’ table as Mike shouts about 205 being his brand. For a bonus, Drake gets put into a chair and superkicked out of it so Mike
can be alone in the ring. A single right hand drops Maverick back inside
and a huge clothesline….gets no cover as Kanellis takes Maverick’s belt off.

The whipping is on, followed by a sleeper to bring Maverick back to life
(that hold has the worst success rate) and he sends a charging Kanellis to
the floor. Another charge lets Kanellis catch Maverick though and it’s a swing into the barricade. Mike still won’t finish it though as he would rather go over and grab the Maria wanted posters off the announcers’ table. One of those goes into Maverick’s mouth but that fires Maverick up again. Maverick slugs and stomps away, setting up a running basement dropkick in
    the corner.

Now it’s Maverick whipping him with the belt and the suicide dive connects.
A DDT onto the announcers’ table drops Kanellis again but the elbow drop
from the barricade only hits table. Back in and Mike loads up his swinging neckbreaker but puts Drake on top instead. The super Razor’s Edge is countered into a super hurricanrana, setting up a Dudley Dog for the pin at 12:49.

Result: Drake Maverick b. Mike Kanellis Dudley Dog (12:49)

Not the best treatment of your boss:

That’s something that matters. There are all kinds of talents in WWE with various rosters of talent up and down the company. Some of the most
talented people in the company don’t even make it to television week in and week out, meaning the roster’s depth is one of its greatest strengths. As
it turns out, one name who is rarely on television has been turning some
    heads.

According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, Riddick Moss has been making
a very positive impression as of late at the Performance Center. Moss, who
has appeared on NXT before as part of a tag team with Tino Sabbatelli, has
been praised for his work ethic and mindset. In recent months, Moss has
been teaming with Dorian Mak on the NXT house show circuit as part of the Outliers.

Heard from a good source that Riddick Moss has stood out at the Performance Center as of late. His work ethic & mindset is that of a true professional. Those in power, within NXT see something in him. TBD if this translates to anything on TV but he is a crucial part of NXT / PC.

Moss has been around before. Check out one of his matches from NXT TV:

Opinion: Good for him. I have no idea if Moss is going to be getting back
on NXT TV anytime soon but the fact that he is getting noticed is a good
sign. NXT has shown the willingness to give someone a chance and maybe
Moss has earned another shot. His time with Sabbatelli was never the best
in the world so maybe he just needed to get to do something else to see
    what he can do.

Did Moss impress you before? Can you see him getting back on television?
