• [WR] REVIEW: Vengeance 2004: The One Before Summerslam (2/3)

From WrestlingRumors.net@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jul 27 11:49:28 2019
    [continued from previous message]

The Peoples Champion hasnt been featured on WWE programming for quite some
time now. The WWE Universe knows that Hollywood is his priority, but The
Rock hasnt been at the last three WrestleMania events and he missed the
    1000th episode of SmackDown.

A lot of people also noticed that The Rock was absent from Mondays Raw
Reunion. The WWE Universe wasnt surprised by this at all, but the reason
why he missed the show is the same reason The Rock cant attend any WWE
events these days. Hes just too busy.
Related: The Rock Names His 3 GOATS In WWE History

According to a report from talkSport, The Peoples Champion was too busy promoting Hobbs & Shaw for Universal and couldnt take the time away to get
to Tampa for Raw, but its unlikely he had a choice in the matter. WWE
reached out to him for the event, but that doesnt mean anything because his commitments to Hollywood take priority.

Unless he makes some time out of his schedule, the next big opportunity for
The Rocks return would be SmackDowns debut on FOX in October. Obviously,
WWE officials have reach out to him and his status is up in the air.
However, FOX is a very big platform and its not out of the question for him
to make an appearance there to help the company.

Theres a bizarre expectation from the WWE Universe that The Peoples
Champion will make an appearance at every big event. The fans have every
right to hope, but he has a family on top of everything hes doing in
Hollywood. Most people would choose family over more travel and time away
just to cut a fun promo and give the WWE fans a laugh.

Do you think The Rock owes the fans an occasional appearance or do we
    expect too much?

Real Reason Why Daniel Bryan Hasnt Been on WWE TV Revealed

Daniel Bryan has been working in the tag team division since losing the WWE Title to Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35. The tag team scene has gotten
Erick Rowan more involved in the ring and on television while Bryan doesnt
    have to work full matches.

The Planets Champion has been teasing a big announcement on WWE programming
and he was absent from SmackDown Live this week. A lot of fans believe
thats WWEs way of stalling to think of a proper angle, but theres a reason
    why Bryan missed TV.
Related: Here’s What Daniel Bryan’s Mystery Announcement Might Be

According to report from RingSideNews, John Pollock of Post Wrestling is reporting that Daniel Bryan missed SmackDown because hes previously
allotted this week for a short vacation. Therefore, Bryan was never
actually meant to be on this weeks SmackDown.

Its being said that WWE officials do have plans for him, but theyre just waiting until he returns from vacation. Its been rumored that Bryan could
be moving to 205 Live in an attempt to boost viewership for the brand
before WWE gives up on it for good. Its also worth noting that Daniel Bryan didnt receive his rematch for the WWE Championship.

WWE officials arent working to the rematch clause angle as frequently
anymore. Hes unlikely to receive that rematch against Kofi five months
after WrestleMania. However, he promised a few years back to earn back the
WWE Title and Intercontinental Title. He won and defended the WWE
Championship, but he hasnt taken back the IC Title yet.

With Daniel Bryan on vacation this week, WWE officials have had a chance to fine tune the announcement hes been teasing or think of something better.
The expectation is that Bryan will be back on WWE programming and SmackDown Live next week.
Should WWE officials send Daniel Bryan to 205 Live?

Its Bigger Than Expected. New Details On Paul Heyman And Eric Bischoffs
Power In WWE (Theres A Lot Of It).

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 04:53 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/bigger-expected-new-details-paul-heyman-eric-bischoffs-power-wwe-theres-lot/

It really is different? Over the last few weeks and months, it has become clear that something needs to change in WWE. Things have not been going
well for the company as Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live are not exactly going well in the slightest. That change came with the hiring of Paul
Heyman and Eric Bischoff, but what exactly do their jobs entail?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Heyman and Bischoff’s new positions are higher than any previous head of either show, including Brian James or Ed Koskey. While Heyman and Bischoff will have nothing to do with creative, they will be in charge of everything from merchandising to brand management while only answering to Vince McMahon himself. While not
official, both are considered close to being executive vice presidents.

The company is certainly happy to have the two of them around. Check out WWE’s announcement of their new positions:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise in the world, but it is certainly interesting to see how many things the two of them are being allowed to
do. It’s a different level of responsibility for anyone other than McMahon and hopefully the two of them are able to get something fresh out of the
show. What WWE has been doing has not been working, so maybe this is the
    big solution.

Which show will be more successful? Which of the two will leave their
position first? Let us know in the comments below.

Its A Possibility. WWE May Be Hinting That Ronda Rousey Is Coming Back.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 04:51 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/possibility-wwe-may-hinting-ronda-rousey-coming-back/

The star power could be real. Back at WrestleMania 35, Ronda Rousey,
Charlotte and Becky Lynch made history by participating in the first ever women’s match to headline a WrestleMania. Lynch won the match and both Women’s Titles by pinning Rousey, who has not been seen since. She is a
big enough star to have WWE begging her to come back and now, that might be closer than expected.

WWEshop.com has released a pair of calendars for 2020, both of which
feature Ronda Rousey. She is prominently featured on the women’s calendar
as well as being the only woman appearing on the regular calendar. While
not confirmed, this would suggest that Rousey is going to be coming back to
the WWE and may be back sooner rather than later. There is also the chance that these calendars were made before Rousey decided that she would be
taking a hiatus from the company.

Rousey has made it clear that she still thinks about wrestling. Check out
her rather funny video that combines wrestling and her real life:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This might be a stretch but it does suggest that WWE still has
Rousey on their minds. They can always use star power like hers and that
is the kind of thing that you don’t just forget about, especially only a
few months after the biggest women’s match of all time. Hopefully she gets to come back when she’s ready, though if she does have a baby it could be a very long time.

When will Rousey be back? What do you want her to do when she gets back?

Finn Balor Wont Be Featured on WWE TV After SummerSlam

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 04:00 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/williammccormick/summerslam-finn-balor/

    .display-none {display: none;} @media screen and (max-width: 480px)
    { .inpost-ad { float:none!important; margin: 10px auto; display:block;

Finn Balor will face Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam in two weeks. Hes had a
recent run of bad luck after losing the Intercontinental Championship to Shinsuke Nakamura on the Extreme Rules preshow. However, the reason for the title loss and surprising feud with The Fiend is that Balor will be taking
some time off from WWE after SummerSlam.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter via Cultaholic, Balor
requested two months off after SummerSlam and WWE officials have granted
his wish. There are no plans for him after the event and his hiatus from
the company will begin immediately after the biggest party of the summer.
Based on his booking, thats not the worst idea.
Related: Finn Balor Confirms Relationship With Non-Wrestling Sportscaster

Theres been some speculation about Finn Balor feuding with AJ Styles and
The OC, or even joining the group to turn heel. That could freshen up his character since hes been a babyface his entire run with the company. Hes
been a top babyface, but most people would argue that Balor is capable of
more than he has accomplished thus far in WWE.

With Finn Balor taking a break after SummerSlam, the odds of him putting
over Wyatt are extremely high. Its possible Balor could suffer his first
lost as The Demon, but the powers that be have intentionally spared him
from losing as the character to save face.

A break will be good for Finn Balor. It gives him a chance to heal and
return with a new perspective and opportunity to make an impact on WWE television. His shoulder injury after winning the WWE Universal
Championship really hurt his top star status because he was forced to take
a year off. Two months could be just enough to heal and regroup.
Would you turn Finn Balor heel when he returns to WWE?

Go North Wrestling Company. WWE May Be Opening A Third NXT Brand.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 03:50 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/go-north-wrestling-company-wwe-may-opening-third-nxt-brand/

The expansion continues. There is a lot of time to fill on the WWE Network
and the company certainly likes to spread around the world. The spread has already included the debut of NXT UK but that doesn’t mean that WWE is done with just one new territory. There is always the chance of expanding even further and WWE may already be starting that move.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is considering starting
an NXT Canada, with Anthony Carelli (Santino Marella) being a part of it in some way, which could be as a coach or a trainer. At the moment, there is
no word on when the promotion would start, or if it would whatsoever. WWE
has previously discussed starting other NXT territories, including in
    Germany.

Marella was around at Raw Reunion. Check out his backstage segment from
    the show:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Would this really surprise you? Having NXT territories all over
the world seems to be WWE’s answer to the territory system and really, that’s not the worst idea in the world. It gives more wrestlers places to work and they can be moved around from territory to territory and see learn
a few things in front of different audiences. That’s one of the better
ideas they can have while also owning so much of the wrestling world.

Do you like the idea of another NXT territory? Where else should get one?

(LISTEN): Another Career? Lio Rush Releases A Song.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 03:47 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/listen-another-career-lio-rush-releases-song/

It’s a fall back option. You remember Lio Rush right? He hasn’t been on WWE TV in a very long time and seems to want out of his contract rather
badly. His attitude has always been an issue and WWE seems to think that
it is better to let him sit at home than to bother bringing him to any
shows. Rush hasn’t been sitting around though and seems to have something else going on.

Rush has released a new song called Scenic Lullaby, which can be heard at
the link and downloaded at Spotify and on iTunes. This is Rush’s first
song and may be the beginning of his music career, though there is no
reference to an album. Rush’s last appearance in WWE came at WrestleMania 35, where Rush accompanied Bobby Lashley to the ring against Finn Balor.
There is no word on when Rush’s WWE contract expires.

Rush was quite the talent. Check out one of his better matches against
    Cedric Alexander:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Rush is far from the first person to not be happy with WWE, though
I have no idea if this is going to be the next big thing for him. He seems interesting in making music though and if he has any kind of talent, maybe
he can go somewhere with that until he can wrestle again. I’d rather he be in the ring, but that does not seem to be an option at the moment,
    especially in WWE.

What do you think of Rush? When will he wrestle again? Let us know in the comments below.

Heres Why Stone Cold Steve Austin Didnt Give Anyone a "Stone Cold Stunner" During Raw Reunion

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 03:00 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/williammccormick/stone-cold-steve-austin-raw-reunion/

Stone Cold Steve Austin made his return to WWE programming during the last segment of Mondays Raw Reunion show. The ring was featured with legends and greats of the past, but the WWE Universe was left disappointed by the
    segment for one big reason.

Since Kevin Owens began using the Stone Cold Stunner as a finisher, a lot
of fans were under the impression that Austin and Owens would deliver
dueling Stunners in the ring together. Obviously, thats not the vibe that
WWE officials were trying to create for the final segment of show. However, there could be a reason why Austin didnt get physical.
Related: Stone Cold Steve Austin Could Return to WWE For Announcing Role

According to Wrestling Observer, many of the returning legends and stars in
the ring at the end of Raw werent medically cleared to do anything
physical. The idea is that with WWE officials trying to make the segment
fun and lack of stars that could take a bump, the decision was made for
Stone Cold to make a speech rather than deliver Stunners.

Unfortunately, that made the ending of Raw Reunion feel off to a lot of
fans because the passionate speech isnt very Stone Cold. It would have been easy to have a heel come out to interrupt the legends and lay him out with
a Stunner to give the fans a moment.

Generally, the segment was likely aiming to make the show about all of WWEs legends in attendance rather than create another Stone Cold moment. Thats understandable and something that the WWE Universe should appreciate, especially when you consider that Kevin Owens has been and will continue to
use the Stunner on WWE television.
Do you think Stone Cold Steve Austin needs a frequent role on WWE TV?

Practice Doesnt Always Make Perfect. Interesting (And Not Great) Note On Awkward Promo From SmackDown Live.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 02:50 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/practice-doesnt-always-make-perfect-interesting-not-great-note-awkward-promo-smackdown-live/

And that’s with practice people. One of the most common complaints about
WWE is the lack of more natural promos. Some of these comes from the
issues involving airing things live that cannot be edited later. There are wrestlers who are just fine with this but even good talkers can mess up
every now and then. It’s a lot harder when it happens live though, which took place this week.

This week on SmackDown Live, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville had a backstage segment where Rose said they would have a match against the Women’s Tag
Team Champions next week. Deville said that they could win the Women’s Tag Team Titles, with Rose saying that if they did, they deserved a shot at the titles. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the segment was
filmed live after the two practiced the exchange all day. At the moment,
it is not clear what the match’s stipulations will be.

Everyone has a botch. Check out the segment as it aired:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This doesn’t look good, but everyone can have a gaffe every now
and then. If Rose and Deville can talk well enough, they can get the
chance down the line. If they can’t do it, maybe their stuff should be taped. Either way, it’s one of the things that isn’t going to matter in the long run and is just a quick error that can be explained away by commentary. At the end of the day, the live promos can help a bit and one mistake should not derail the idea.

How will the match go? Do you prefer live promos? Let us know in the
    comments below.

Split Squad. A Possible Solution To A Saudi Arabia Show And SmackDown Live Airing On The Same Day.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 02:45 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/split-squad-possible-solution-saudi-arabia-show-smackdown-live-airing-day/

A creative solution? WWE has a lot of programming to offer in a variety of ways. Of course their major programs are Monday Night Raw and SmackDown
Live, but they also have their big shows in Saudi Arabia. While these
shows are not the most popular in wrestling, they make the company so much money that WWE almost has to accommodate them. We might have an idea of
how they’re going to do that.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE may be consider an all women’s episode of SmackDown Live on November 1, which is the scheduled
date for the next Saudi Arabia show. Since the Saudi Arabia and SmackDown
Live will be airing live, both shows will not be able to have the full
roster available. This is not confirmed and is more of an idea than
something that is planned to take place.

They’ve held a women’s show before. Check out the behind the scenes look at Evolution:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This would be an interesting decision as it tells you where WWE’s priorities are. They have both shows going on at once and while the women
are not allowed to wrestle in Saudi Arabia, this is as good as they can
get. It might not be what FOX wants for SmackDown Live, but the Saudi
Arabian shows seem to make more money and that is where WWE is going to go.

Would you like this idea? What else could WWE do? Let us know in the
    comments below.

So Thats Whats Going On. Heres The Rather Unique Reason Why Bret Hart
    Wasnt At Raw Reunion.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 02:07 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/thats-whats-going-heres-rather-unique-reason-bret-hart-wasnt-raw-reunion/

Sometimes it really is the simplest reason. Raw Reunion took place earlier this week and saw a host of wrestlers making appearances, many of them for
the first time in a very long time. One of the most interesting parts of
the show was figuring out who was and was not there, which makes for some surprising results. One major name was missing and now we know why.

Bret Hart did not appear on this week’s Raw Reunion despite being invited
to the show. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Hart did not appear on the show because he is enjoying the summer in Calgary instead.
He has no issue with WWE but just did not want to miss any time in
Calgary. Hart is at the point where he can do whatever he wants and simply
did not want to come to the show.

Hart has a history on Monday Night Raw. Check out one of the final matches
    of his career:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Hart is one of the biggest names in the history of WWE and it
makes a lot of sense to have him at a major reunion. At the same time
though, if he just does not want to show up, there’s nothing wrong with
that. Hart has always been a little bit different than most people in wrestling and if he doesn’t want to show up, good for him for enjoying his time in Calgary.

How did you like Raw Reunion? What would Hart have done on the show? Let
us know in the comments below.

    205 Live Results - July 23, 2019

    Posted: 26 Jul 2019 11:56 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/205-live-results-july-23-2019/

    205 Live

    Date: July 23, 2019

Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida

    Commentators: Aiden English, Vic Joseph

We’re coming up on Summerslam and that means we need a new #1 contender.
They haven’t named a new #1 contender yet but that tends to be a better
idea around here. Things are better when we have a bunch of matches taking place instead of focusing on one, which is the case tonight. This time
around Isaiah Scott (Shane Strickland) is coming up, presumably for one
night only, to face Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak. Let’s get to it.

We open with a recap of Mike Kanellis driving Drake Maverick to violence
last week with an insult of Maverick’s wife. Maverick is willing to give Kanellis a title shot, but he has to win a match first. As you might have guessed, that match is against Maverick.

Maverick says his actions as General Manager last week were uncalled for
but as a man, they were very appropriate. Next week, they won’t be
competing because they are going to fight. Just to make sure it’s as
violent as possible, the match is unsanctioned.

    Opening sequence.
Lucha House Party vs. Humberto Carrillo/Raul Mendoza

Lince Dorado is the odd Lucha out here. During his entrance, we get a video
on Mendoza. Raul and Kalisto start things off with Kalisto spinning out of
an early wristlock attempt. Both guys spin out of a tilt-a-whirl attempt
before they both block armdrags. Kalisto’s rope walk into an anklescissors doesn’t work and it’s an early stalemate.

Kalisto goes with a multiple springboard wristdrag and of course Mendoza is right on his feet again. Metalik and Carrillo come in with the former
grabbing a headlock so Carrillo flips him away for a breather. The House
Party starts in on the arm with a kick to the shoulder, followed by a
quickly broken chinlock. That’s fine with Kalisto, who grabs a second one because the first one didn’t take.

Carrillo fights up again and gets kicked in the face, freaking English out
all over again. That doesn’t last long though as it’s back to Mendoza for the Lucha Bros’ wheelbarrow splash and a near fall on Kalisto. Mendoza
grabs an armbar on Kalisto but hands it back to Carrillo before getting too
far with it. Come on man you have to put in more effort than that. Kalisto
is fine enough to hit a kick to the head and it’s back to Metalik for the kicks to the head.

The running clothesline into the rope walk dropkick gets two but Carrillo’s awesome springboard spinning crossbody gives him a breather. Mendoza and Kalisto come in with Mendoza hitting a heck of a dropkick, followed by a
better rope walk dropkick. Everything breaks down and Kalisto hits his handspring kick to the head, only to get dropkicked by Mendoza again.
Metalik and Carrillo start trading the kicks to the head until they head to
the corner with Metalik snapping off a super hurricanrana for two more.
Mendoza dives onto Kalisto but Metalik’s moonsault hits raised boots. Carrillo is right back up with the Aztec Press to finish Metalik at 12:16.

Result: Raul Mendoza/Humberto Carrillo b. Lucha House Party Aztec Press to Metalik (12:16)

We look back at last week’s great Chad Gable vs. Jack Gallagher match with Gable winning and showing respect after the match.
    Oney Lorcan vs. Tony Isner

Lorcan wastes no time in hammering away in the corner, including some
running elbows. The half and half suplex finishes Isner at 1:08.

Drew Gulak isn’t surprised that no one from 205 Live wanted to face him, which is why Scott is here from NXT. Gulak trained Scott and knows
everything about him. Tonight, Scott taps out.
    Drew Gulak vs. Isaiah Scott

Non-title. Gulak dropkicks him at the bell and grabs a very early headlock. Scott breaks away without any trouble and it’s already into a standoff. A shove puts Scott on the floor and Gulak tells him to bring it. Back in and Scott grabs a wristlock before rolling away to put in some frustration. The dropkick sends Gulak outside and the confidence is flowing from Scott.

A cartwheel moonsault catches Gulak on the way back in and it’s back to the mat for the grappling. Scott punches him in the face for two and drops a
knee to the chest for the same. They head outside with Gulak whipping him
into the barricade as the anger begins again. A running Razor’s Edge into
