(VIDEO): That Would Be Different. Former WWE World Champion Might Be
    Changing Wrestling Careers.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 12:20 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-different-former-wwe-world-champion-might-changing-wrestling-careers/

Well that would be different. There are some wrestlers who stick around
the company for life, despite their in-ring careers being over. Some
people are just wired that way and there is nothing wrong with that. Maybe they have nowhere else to go or maybe they are just that suited for the wrestling business. While not confirmed, one current WWE name may be
trying something new in the wrestling business.

In a new video posted to his Twitter account, Sheamus shows off both a new, shorter haircut but also while wearing a WWE referee shirt. Sheamus is currently out of action due to a spinal injury with no timetable for a potential return to the ring. There is no indication that Sheamus is going
to become a referee as the video could be a joke or have nothing to do with
    the shirt.

Sheamus has been around for a long time. Check out where it all started:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I mean, why not? It would be a little more intimidating than the usual referee but it’s cool to see Sheamus stick around, especially if he could get healthy enough to wrestle again one day. That being said,
Sheamus is 40 years old and someone who is not going to likely be in the
ring much longer. If this is what he wants to do though, good for him and
it would certainly offer something different.

Do you think Sheamus will be a referee? Will he get back into the ring?

Could It Be? A Moment On SmackDown Live May Be Setting Up A Major Feud.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 12:14 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/moment-smackdown-live-may-setting-major-feud/

One more time one more time? One of the most important things to remember
in wrestling is to never say never. While something may seem impossible,
you never can tell if it might actually happen. Daniel Bryan was cleared
to wrestle again, AJ Styles defeated John Cena to become WWE Champion, and Shawn Michaels wrestled one more match. Well what if it was one more one
    more match?

On this week’s SmackDown Live, Dolph Ziggler superkicked Shawn Michaels to leave him laying. Since then, Ziggler has been tweeting about facing
Michaels, though he says that it is not likely to happen. The first of Ziggler’s tweets said that it was not going to happen, prompting Zack Ryder to ask if Ziggler meant Miz. Ziggler clarified that he meant Michaels, who came out of an eight and a half year retirement last year for a tag match
    at Crown Jewel.

    you know it should happen.
    you know it never will.
    you know why. pic.twitter.com/OzAbvgLFTn

Miz is technically also in the pic
But I’m hinting at the guy on the ground.

Could this be leading somewhere? Check out the superkick from SmackDown
    Live:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure if this is ever going to happen, but my goodness the idea of Michaels getting to have one more match on the bigger and less controversial stage. At the same time though, I would be fine with him
never lacing up the boots again. If Michaels never wrestles again, his
legacy is certainly set forever so never doing it again would be perfectly
    fine as well.

Do you want to see Michaels get back in the ring? Do you think he will?

Start The Countdown. Update On Former Champions Status After Surgery, Estimated Return Time.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2019 12:10 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/start-countdown-update-former-champions-status-surgery-estimated-return-time/

That’s a long time. Injuries are the kind of thing that no one wants to
see happen in wrestling as they can change someone’s career, if not their life, in the blink of an eye. They can take place at any given time or in
any given move and that makes them one of the scariest things possible in wrestling. What might be worse than the injury is the recovery time though
and that is where we are today.

According to Fightful Select by way of Sportskeeda.com, Mickie James’
likely return date to the ring after ACL surgery is April 2020. James
injured her knee on June 1 of this year in a match against Carmella and had surgery earlier this week. She has been part of WWE since 2005 and is a
six time Women’s Champion. Before her injury, her most recent televised match had been the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35.

James can still do a lot when she’s healthy. Check out her getting violent with Alexa Bliss:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: James may not be the star that she once was but she is the kind of person who can offer a lot to the younger wrestlers in the division. She
has a lot of experience and will likely be offered a trainer’s role when
she hangs up her boots. Hopefully she can come back healthy and get in a
few more feuds and perhaps even one more title reign to tie Trish Stratus.

Will James ever be Women’s Champion again? What should she do when she is healthy again? Let us know in the comments below.

Charlotte Flair vs. Trish Stratus at Summerslam Has Been a Long Time Coming

It was revealed that Trish Stratus was in discussions with WWE regarding an in-ring return at Summerslam. With only a couple of weeks left to promote a match, WWE officials needed to find a dream opponent for the WWE Hall of
    Famer rather quickly.

After Charlotte Flairs promo on SmackDown Live, its clear the WWE Universe
will be seeing Charlotte vs. Trish at Summerslam. Howeever, the most interesting part of the match coming to fruition is how long WWE officials
    have been planning the matchup.

According to a report from Brad Shepard via RingSideNews on Wednesday, the powers that be have been planning Flair vs. Stratus since last October
around WWEs Evolution PPV. WWE officials needed to be patient to get throw WrestleMania given the situation Charlotte was a part of with Becky Lynch
and Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35.

With this years SummerSlam being taken out of New York for the first time
in years, a hometown showing in Toronto for Trish Stratus is a perfect situation to pull the trigger between two of the most talented and
    accomplished wrestlers in wrestling history.

Its highly unlikely that Trish Stratus walks out of Toronto with a victory
over Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam. However, its quite the stamp of
approval for Trish to work with Charlotte on a major stage almost 13 years after her official retirement from the ring.

Theres only two more weeks of WWE programming left to promote the match.
The two women arent expected to exchange blows before the PPV. A promo
segment and a good match will be more than enough to cement the moment in
    the minds of wrestling fans.
What other dream matches are left for Trish Stratus that you would want to
    see?

Thats What WWE Is Gonna Do? Hulk Hogan Gives His Picks For The Future
    Stars Of WWE.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 08:23 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/thats-wwe-gonna-hulk-hogan-gives-picks-future-stars-wwe/

Now that’s an endorsement. Raw Reunion brought a lot of former stars back
to WWE programming for the first time in a long time. There were nearly
forty names who showed up on Monday and that allowed for some people to get some attention, meaning some interviews were given. One of the biggest
names ever was asked about the future and that gave us some interesting answers.

In an interview with ESPN on Monday, Hulk Hogan was asked who he felt were
the future stars of WWE. Hogan listed off several names in the company, including Drew McIntyre, AJ Styles, Ricochet and Kevin Owens, while saying
that John Cena was his favorite wrestler. Regarding Cena, Hogan mentioned
that he wanted to see Cena back in the World Title picture. Hogan did not mention any names from NXT.

Hogan vs. Cena would be quite the dream match. Check out WWE’s preview of what could be:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Hogan isn’t someone who talks about the future very often so this
is quite the moment to see. There are very few names even close to being
as successful as Hogan and an endorsement from him could mean something.
He has a good eye for talent as well, with McIntyre having all the
potential in the world and Owens seemingly ready to get a big push against Shane McMahon.

What do you think of Hogan’s picks? Which of them has the brightest
future? Let us know in the comments below.

The Rats Leaving The Ship? Several Top WWE Names Selling Stock And We
    Might Know Why.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 08:20 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/rats-leaving-ship-several-top-wwe-names-selling-stock-might-know/

That might not be a good sign. WWE is not doing very well at the moment as their television audiences and viewerships are both shrinking in a hurry.
While the company is having some strong success in their long term
television deals, those deals might be in some trouble if things don’t get better. The stock price might get worse as well and some big names might
    know something.

According to SEC Filings by way of WWE.com, various WWE executives,
including Vince McMahon himself, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, WWE
Co-Presidents George Barrios and Michelle Wilson and Kevin Dunn all sold
large quantities of WWE stock on Tuesday. While such sales take place all
the time, this is noteworthy as the company’s second quarter financial reports are set to be released on Thursday. This could suggest that the
stock report is not going to be positive.

This isn’t the easiest thing to find a video about. Check out Kane selling hot dogs (it’s the best I’ve got):
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: It isn’t a secret that the WWE’s financial reports are not likely to be good so this is hardly the biggest surprise in the world. At some
point WWE is going to have to come up with a viable answer to what is wrong with the company and I don’t think they are going to know what that is on Thursday. It is no surprise that the company executives are trying to make
as much money as they can, but it doesn’t look great.

Are you surprised by these sales? How worried should WWE be? Let us know

    KBs Review: When Legends Rise

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 07:46 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/kbs-review-legends-rise/

Raw Reunion has come and gone and, as usual when WWE has a big special
episode like this, the reaction has been mixed. I certainly loved the show,
but at the same time I can understand the complaints this time around.
While the show focused on the legends almost entirely, it ignored almost
any build towards Summerslam, which is less than three weeks away. Given
the changing landscape of WWE creative, that might not have been the best
idea (keep in mind that USA came up with the plan and probably had no idea about Summerslam).

The other issue that comes up is how much better the legends are presented
than the regular wrestlers. That’s very true, and in this case it isn’t hard to see why. Normally the argument would be that WWE should have spent
more of the show focusing on developing their current talent, but after the weeks and months of pure failures that we’ve been sitting through as they fail in such an endeavor, would one more week have mattered all that much?

I don’t think you can give a definitive answer about whether Monday’s show was good or bad and I’m not going to try. That’s going to depend on your taste and how you look at it and in this case, both sides can make perfect sense. Instead, we’re going to take a look at why the legends come off so much better than the regular stars of today and try go through some of the things that would help so much. And no this isn’t going to be “let them be unscripted” because the legends were mostly scripted on Monday and they did just fine for themselves.

Keep in mind that these are general issues and they do not apply to
everyone on the current or older roster.

Let’s get the biggest one out of the way first: the legends know how to
stand out. Look at someone like Ted DiBiase, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, the Boogeyman, Godfather, Sgt. Slaughter, Hurricane and others.
These people have something that makes them stand out, be it their color scheme, costume, manner of speaking, signature something (ala DiBiase’s laugh) or any one thing that makes them stand out.

Do these people get your attention:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Compare that to today. How many wrestlers either don’t stand out or don’t have anything besides their look and maybe their gear to set them apart?
What is Baron Corbin? What makes Seth Rollins different than everyone else? What does Dolph Ziggler do so much differently than the rest of the roster? There are certainly exceptions to the rule, but there are so many people on
the roster who are just there and have nothing to set them apart.

Focusing on the looks for a second, the color schemes that the wrestlers
put together can mean so much. Look at some of the names on the show. Hogan
has the red and yellow, Slaughter is all camouflage, Ric Flair is famous
for his robes, Hurricane wears bright green. These people instantly stand
out and get your attention. It works today too with New Day being a prime example. Ignoring the charisma, the dancing and the pancakes, you have
three guys in bright blue shirts coming down the ramp. That gets your
attention because it looks different than anything else.

Compare it to shopping. When you’re buying cereal or candy or something
where there are a lot of varieties, how important is the packaging? How
many candy bars or boxes of cereal are in some brightly colored box or
wrapper? It’s very rarely some dark color or generic box. They’re designed to catch your eye and get your attention. The exact same thing hols true
for wrestling. If you’re flipping through the channels and see people
dressed all in black or three guys (or just one) in a bright blue shirt
that stands out from the rest of the scene, which is going to make you stop?

On the other side, you have the simple time factor. One of the biggest
draws of Raw Reunion was having wrestlers who haven’t been around in a long time making some appearances. It’s the really easy concept of absence
making the heart grow fonder and that applies to everything. In short, how
can we miss a wrestler if they won’t go away? People like Hogan and Austin aren’t around very often so having them show up feels like a treat. Now
what would happen if they were around every single week? How long would it
be before fans got sick of them like anyone else?

    Hey, I Remember You:

[This post contains video, click to play]
If you need proof, just look at Shane McMahon or Corbin. How many times are they on every single show? In McMahon’s case he was a featured player on
both shows every week and people got fed up with seeing him. Nothing he did felt special there was little point in seeing him, especially when he was always going to be there next week with nothing changing. At some point you have to let the fans get a breather from someone, just for the sake of
letting the fans start to miss them a bit.

On the other side of the modern spectrum, you have Bray Wyatt. His last televised match was all the way back in August 2018 and once he wrestles at Summerslam, it’s going to be nearly a full year since he wrestled on television. At one point fans were sick of seeing him but then the Firefly
Fun House videos started to pop up and the fans were right back into him
all over again. It’s a really simple idea: don’t have the same people doing the same stuff every week and fans will keep responding to them.

Finally, Monday night felt like it was fun. The legends all seemed to be
having a good time and they were out there doing something entertaining. It wasn’t the ultra serious stuff that we get so often in WWE with wrestlers talking about wanting to hit each other in the face. That’s the way you should present most of your stories, but sometimes you need to be able to
    have some less serious fun.

This might be a little more entertaining than another dry promo:

[This post contains video, click to play]
That brings us to the 24/7 Title, because everything has to be about that
thing in one way or another. The title is the biggest joke that WWE has had
in years and yet it is getting over for a few reasons. In addition to the simple reason of people wanting to win it (yeah imagine that: a title being treated like it’s valuable), the whole thing has felt fun.

That creates such a breather on the show because it isn’t the same as everything else. Hence the term comic relief: it’s a relief from the
serious nature that everything else has and that can be very valuable.
Couple that with the regular stuff not being great in the first place and it’s easy to see why the title, just like the legends got over so easily:
it makes things feel fun and the fans, who are there for entertainment,
want to have a good time.

Overall, I liked Raw Reunion a lot better than the regular show, but it
isn’t something that could work more than a week or two a year at most. The legends have a lot of advantages coming into the show that it’s easy to see why they are so well received. While that might not be the fairest
comparison, the legends do offer a few good ideas about how to fix the
current situation with the current roster. It might not be as simple as a costume change or letting people have time off, but something needs to be
fixed so there can be legends of the future.

    Impact Wrestling Results - July 19, 2019

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 05:53 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/impact-wrestling-results-july-19-2019/

    Impact Wrestling

    Date: July 19, 2019

Location: Don Kolov Arena, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

    Commentators: Don Callis, Josh Matthews

For some reason we’re still not back to the regular shows nearly two weeks removed from Slammiversary as it’s another special edition. This time
around it’s a Mash Up Tournament, which is basically the old Lethal
Lottery. Now the fun thing to do is guess how many of these teams will be having issues or some kind of connection as the tournament starts. I’ll set the over/under at one per match, minimum. Let’s get to it.

Callis and Matthews are in the ring to start and explain the concept. The winning team will get to face off on August 2 for a World Title shot.

Sami Callihan is ready to team with Tessa Blanchard but reminds her that he
is the leader. She doesn’t seem to agree.

    Opening sequence.
Mash-Up Tournament First Round: Moose/Eddie Edwards vs. Rohit Raju/Cody
    Deaner

Raju starts with Moose and is over for the tag in less than thirty seconds after no contact. Moose isn’t impressed with the fans so Cody hammers him
in the jaw for his efforts. Eddie comes in and gets punched as well,
followed by Raju hammering away in the corner. Moose has to save Eddie from
a double suplex and starts cleaning house on Cody. A double backsplash
crushes Raju but Cody is back up with a powerslam on Eddie. Raju and Cody
get in an argument so Moose kicks Cody in the face. The Boston Knee Party finishes Raju at 5:20.

Result: Moose/Eddie Edwards b. Rohit Raju/Cody Deaner Boston Knee Party to Raju (5:20)

Post match the Deaners and the Hit Squad get in another fight with the
Squad getting the better of it.

Aiden Prince and Ace Austin aren’t worried about Willie Mack and Michael Elgin but Austin tells him to stay out of his way and let the veteran
handle things. Prince walks off, suggesting that Austin needs another
    partner.

Eddie and Moose are happy about their win but Moose wants to win the whole thing.
Mash-Up Tournament First Round: Rich Swann/Mad Man Fulton vs. Zachary Wentz/Jake Crist

Fulton chokes Wentz to start but a hurricanrana sends Fulton over for the
tag. It’s quickly off to Crist vs. Swann for an exchange of kicks as we
take an early break. Back with Swann in trouble in the corner and Wentz
coming in for a front facelock. Swann kicks away to get a breather but
Crist breaks up the tag attempt. A Lethal Injection is enough for the tag
to Fulton, who won’t hit Crist. Instead Fulton chokeslams Swann and Crist hits a fisherman’s buster for the pin at 9:19.

Result: Zachary Wentz/Jake Crist b. Rich Swann/Mad Man Fulton Fishermans buster to Swann (9:19)

Austin hits on Madison Rayne but she says a queen doesn’t align herself
with a court jester. Stone Rockwell (the adventurer guy who is basically a mascot) comes up and winds up being Austin’s partner.
Mash-Up Tournament First Round: Stone Rockwell/Ace Austin vs. Michael Elgin/Willie Mack

Elgin breaks up the posing before the bell and sends Austin into the corner
for the tag off to Mack. Austin manages a kick to Mack’s head but won’t tag in Rockwell, allowing Mack to hit a spinebuster. The fans are WAY into Mack here and almost equally into Elgin as he comes in to take over. A powerbomb
is escaped and Austin bails over to Rockwell, who manages a suplex. Elgin
pops right back up and it’s the buckle bomb into the Elgin Bomb for the pin at 3:51.

Result: Michael Elgin/Willie Mack b. Stone Rockwell/Ace Austin Elgin Bomb
    to Rockwell (3:51)

Sami Callihan and OVE are ready to win the tournament so Sami can be World Champion. Since Sami and Dave Crist are in the next match, it’s Fingerpoke
    of Doom time.

Taya Valkyrie is NOT defending the Knockouts Title tonight because she
defended it two weeks ago. John E. Bravo seems interested in her and she
    might be a bit sick.
Mash-Up Tournament First Round: Trey Miguel/Dave Crist vs. Tessa
    Blanchard/Sami Callihan

Trey is in OVE gear. Sami wants the Fingerpoke but the fans want Tessa.
Trey makes the quick save and everyone comes in for yelling and shoving.
Tessa sends Dave outside and Miguel hits a pair of dives. Sami’s spit chop
is cut off by a superkick and Trey hits one of his own, continuing to use
the Sami mannerisms. Back in and Sami takes over but won’t tag Tessa in.

The fans still want Tessa but have to settle for Trey rolling Sami up for
two. Tessa tags herself in and dropkicks Trey into 619 position. That means
a running elbow to the back before slamming Callihan onto Trey. It’s back
to Sami but Trey fights up and hits a 619 in the corner, allowing the
double tag to Tessa and Dave. The Codebreaker out of the corner gives Tessa
    two but Magnum misses.

A fireman’s carry facebuster drops Tessa but Trey tags himself in and yells at Dave. The Downward Spiral DDT plants Tessa but she is back up with a
tornado DDT to Trey. Everything breaks down and Sami backdrops Trey to
escape the Cactus Special. Magnum connects but Tessa tweaks her knee,
allowing Sami to tag himself in. The Cactus Special finishes Trey at 11:18.

Result: Sami Callihan/Tessa Blanchard b. Trey Miguel/Dave Crist Cactus
    Special to Miguel (11:18)

Post break, Sami and Tessa keep arguing.

Flashback Moment of the Week: OVE vs. Moose/Tommy Dreamer/Eddie Edwards
    from House of Hardcore.
Havok vs. Taya Valkyrie vs. Madison Rayne

Non-title. Taya and Madison go after Havok to start with Madison being
thrown into the corner for her efforts. Taya knocks them into both corners
but spends too much time gyrating, allowing Rayne to come back with an enziguri. A clothesline gives Taya two as Havok is back up. John E. Bravo offers a distraction so Taya can rake Havok’s eyes (not the most necessary move in a No DQ match), allowing Madison to grab a guillotine choke.

That’s broken up in a hurry so it’s a three way slugout. Havok is big enough for a fall away slam/Samoan drop at the same time but Bravo pulls
Taya away from a running kick in the corner. Madison slugs at Havok as Taya leaves, allowing Havok to come back with a Tombstone for the pin at 5:37.

Result: Havok b. Taya Valkyrie and Madison Rayne Tombstone (5:37)

Elgin is going to win the #1 contendership because he has Brian Cage in a street fight next week. What better way to guarantee himself the title?
Mash-Up Tournament Finals: Eddie Edwards/Moose vs. Zachary Wentz/Jake Crist
vs. Willie Mack/Michael Elgin vs. Tessa Blanchard/Sami Callihan

The winning team faces off in two weeks for a World Title shot and it’s elimination rules. Tessa and Sami argue over who gets to start with Eddie, allowing Eddie to knock Sami down early on. Sami fights back but Moose tags himself in and slugs away, only to have Sami grab his crotch. It’s already back to Eddie as the other teams are being shut out so far.

The slugout into a chase is on but Elgin tags himself in, allowing Eddie to dive onto Sami. Everything breaks down into a brawl on the floor until
Elgin and Eddie wind up back inside. Moose comes back in to powerbomb Eddie onto the pile and we take a break. Back with Elgin suplexing Moose to leave Eddie all alone. Mack remembers that he’s in the match and Pounces Eddie, followed by the big flip dive to everyone else. That leaves Eddie to take
