RUMOR: Not All The Way. Roman Reigns Not Back To Full Strength From
Leukemia Just Yet, How WWE Is Hiding The Issue.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2019 01:59 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/rumor-not-way-roman-reigns-not-back-full-strength-just-yet-wwe-hiding-issue/

That’s a scary thing to hear. Last October, Roman Reigns was forced to vacate the Universal Title due to his leukemia coming back. Reigns
returned a few months later and has since wrestled in some high profile matches, including at WrestleMania 35. He even won an ESPY Award for his
big return. However, it turns out that things might not be going as well
    as they seem.

According to Tom Colohue of PWInsider on Twitter, Reigns is not back to the
top of his physical form yet and is not back full time with WWE just yet.
Since then, WWE has used him sparingly and had him appear in tag matches or shorter matches, including not having him appear on SmackDown Live for over
a month. There is no word on when Reigns will be back to full strength, as
the recovery could take longer than expected. There is also nothing to
suggest that Reigns will be taking any time off.

    From a #WWE source:

"Roman still isnt back full time completely. He wanted to be back straight
away but WWE are happy to have him protected in tag matches or short
matches spread out and big media appearances."

    - Tom Colohue (@Colohue) July 20, 2019

Reigns can still do things like this. Check out him wrecking havoc at
    Monday Night Raw:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is far from the most surprising thing in the world as a
disease that powerful is going to take some serious recovery time. It’s a serious condition and the fact that Reigns has been able to come back and
do as much as he had is impressive. Hopefully he’s back to full strength soon, for his own sake rather than what works best for WWE. This is bigger than the company, as it should be.

Hes Done It Before. Hulk Hogan Might Be Taking Over WWE At Raw Reunion.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2019 01:42 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/hes-done-hulk-hogan-might-taking-wwe-raw-reunion/

Well that would be different. WWE is not in the best place at the moment
to put it mildly. The audiences have not be as strong as they have been in years past and it seems that things need to be turned around in one way or another. In this case WWE seems to be trying nostalgia with their Raw
Reunion special, but one legend might be taking things in a different direction.

Hulk Hogan recently posted on Twitter about seeing a sunset which made him think of red, yellow and black. The image made him think about coming to
Raw Reunion on Monday and taking over the entire show with the rest of the legends. While there is a chance that something like this could happen,
there is also a chance that this is just Hogan talking to build some hype
    for the show.

For some reason, I saw this last night I thought of the
#RawReunion, brother ,the red/yellow/black color scheme made my mind kick
start with a crazy thought, what if the Reunion Superstars got together and
said enough is enough and just took over the whole WWE and Ruled4 Life. HH pic.twitter.com/LyHjZiy9ac

    - Hulk Hogan (@HulkHogan) July 21, 2019

Hogan knows what a special show can be like. Check out his appearance on a similar show from a few years back:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Hogan and the other legends taking over the show could be
entertaining though I have a feeling that this isn’t going anywhere. I’m sure some of the people on the show are going to be in more prominent roles than others with Hogan near the top, but there is always the chance that
they will get to do something more important. It should be a fun show
though and get people to watch, but what matters most is getting them to
    come back.

What do you want to see Hogan do? Who else can be in a major role on the
show? Let us know in the comments below.

Pick One. Mark Henry Plays Gimmick Roulette For Raw Reunion.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2019 01:38 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/pick-one-mark-henry-plays-gimmick-roulette-raw-reunion/

He has a lot to pick from. This week’s Raw Reunion has a lot of potential
to be a major show for the company, with all kinds of possibilities for surprises and returns that we haven’t seen in a long time. At the same
time though, there are going to be some names who have been around in
recent years, but maybe not in the same personas that you have gotten used
    to seeing over the years.

As announced on his Twitter account, Mark Henry will be at the Raw Reunion special, but he has not made it clear under which persona he will be
appearing. Henry posted a collage of his various characters over the years
and promised that one of them will appear at Raw Reunion. Henry retired in 2017 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018. He last wrestled
on Monday Night Raw on February 13, 2017.

One or all of versions of ?@TheMarkHenry? will be at RAW tomorrow night. #bustedopenradio #WWE #WWENXT #RAWReunion pic.twitter.com/IPPAEJt1yZ

That is a very strong man. Check out some of Henry’s greatest feats of strength:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Henry might not be the biggest star, but he is the kind of person
who can appear on the show and provide some nice nostalgia. He is a member
of the Hall of Fame and hopefully he can show off some of his charisma and charm, which were very underrated during his career. Henry is a hilarious
guy when he is given the chance and that will likely be the case on the
    show.

favorite? Let us know in the comments below.

There Has To Be A Reason. Just Why Is WWE Running Smackville (Its A Pretty Interesting One)?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2019 01:35 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/reason-just-wwe-running-smackville-pretty-interesting-one/

There has to be a reason. WWE certainly likes to produce a lot of content, both for television and the WWE Network. Last week saw the Extreme Rules
pay per view and on August 11, the company will present Summerslam. In
between those shows are all of the weekly television shows, plus a surprise bonus called Smackville. But why is the special taking place?

According to Fightful.com, the Smackville special is taking place for the
sake of a glorified dress rehearsal. The idea is that the company wants to
be able to counter program events from other companies, such as what they
did with the Evolve Tenth Anniversary Special against AEW’s Fight For The Fallen. Similar specials are expected in the coming months as AEW and
    other promotions produce more content.

Kofi Kingston has been getting ready for the show. Check out his
    preparations:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I can’t say I blame WWE for trying something like this, but at the same time, it might not be the most promising idea in the world to produce
even more content for WWE. The company seems to be on all the time anymore
and there comes a point where the fans are just not going to respond to so
many shows. Hopefully the show is good, which would be better than nothing.

Do you want to see the show? Will any titles change hands? Let us know in
    the comments below.

The New Family? Bray Wyatt Seems Impressed By A New NXT Star.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2019 01:31 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/new-family-bray-wyatt-seems-impressed-new-nxt-star/

Starting a new family? Bray Wyatt is one of the more interesting
characters in wrestling at the moment and has been for the last several
years. A lot of this comes from his various stablemates with Wyatt taking
over the minds of various people, normally rather large ones. While Wyatt
is now back with the Fiend character, he might already be looking for a new branch on the Family tree.

Over the weekend, a fan tweeted to Wyatt about working with new NXT talent Dexter Lumis, an idea which Wyatt seemed to like. The fan asked if Lumis
could start claiming victims for Wyatt, who posted a Tweet agreeing. Lumis
is formerly known as Samuel Shaw and portrays a character who seems to be
based on the title character from the series Dexter, which focuses on a
    serial killer.

I think you know the Fiend. Check out Lumis’ pretty fun debut instead:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: While I don’t think this is going to lead anywhere, at least for
the time being, there is certainly something here that could be
interesting. Lumis is a character that has a lot of potential, though
Wyatt has had a ton of it for years now. I’m not exactly thrilled by what WWE is going to do with Wyatt but maybe they can make a mistake and have it actually work.

What do you think of Lumis so far? How successful will Wyatt be this
time? Let us know in the comments below.

RUMOR: Theres Always Room For One More. All Time Great Possibly Heading To
    Raw Reunion.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2019 01:27 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/rumor-theres-always-room-one-time-great-possibly-heading-raw-reunion/

It wouldn’t be right without him. This coming Monday’s edition of Monday Night Raw will feature Raw Reunion. That means one of the biggest episodes
of the show in recent memory and probably the biggest of the year. There
will be all kinds of legends from the show’s history, including both long
ago and not that far. One of the biggest names of all time may be there as well.

According to Postwrestling.com, John Cena is confirmed for Raw Reunion,
albeit in a yet to be determined role. Cena is currently filming Suicide
Squad 2 but he could manage to get away in time to make an appearance on
the show. His last appearance took place at WrestleMania 35 when he showed
up to attack Elias, albeit in his Dr. Thuganomics persona rather than his
    more traditional character.

Cena has been on Monday Night Raw earlier this year. Check out an
    appearance from January:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I mean, he kind of has to be there right? Cena is one of the most important names in the show’s history and it would be strange to not have
him around. I know he’s barely a part of the company any longer, but he
most than deserves a spot on a show like this. Hopefully he can make a few more appearances and one day have an official retirement match, though that might not take place for a long time.

What do you want to see Cena do? Who else do you want to see around? Let

The Attitude Era Revival in WWE: An Interesting Idea Lost in Translation

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 08:42 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tomclark/attitude-era-revival-wwe-interesting-idea-lost-translation/

WWE’s Raw Reunion will take place on Monday, July 22 and will feature the return of the company’s all-time legends. Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Hulk Hogan and more, are expected to appear on the red brand’s big night.

WWE is currently hyping the program on social media and presenting mockup matches of past Superstars versus current Superstars. The Rock versus Roman Reigns, Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Kevin Owens and Alundra Blayze
versus Becky Lynch are just three of the dream matches listed by WWE. But
while it’s fun to imagine the collision of yesterday and today, this bit of advertising does highlight a major issue.

This goes to the heart of WWE’s problems in 2019. Longtime fans remember
how important The Attitude Era was and what it meant to the business. More importantly, they remember what it meant to WWE.

The Attitude Era revitalized the company and built an entirely new fanbase. Many fans who had left for WCW, came back in droves. Loyal WWE fans, who remained with Vince McMahon’s company throughout The Monday Night Wars, had their faith in WWE reaffirmed. But the most important segment, fans who
perhaps had never watched pro wrestling full-time before, came onboard as
    well.

    Relive Stone Colds greatest moments!

WWE had never been hotter and it hasn’t been as hot since then. Everyone knows this. It’s common knowledge at this point and for better or worse,
the conversation concerning The Attitude Era will never die. The company
knows this as well, hence why legends continue to be invited back.

It’s as if the company celebrates the most important era of all time and seems content to do so, while the current product continues to underwhelm.
This is no secret either and reinforces the belief that WWE, for whatever reason, is unwilling to revisit what made the company succeed during The Attitude Era.

Some would say it’s the coarse language and lewd storylines that made that era the best. It was certainly not TV for kids, as mature themes dominated
the WWE product during that time. The company has actually flirted with
some of those themes recently, with Corey Graves cursing on Monday Night
Raw and Kofi Kingston giving Samoa Joe the middle finger on SmackDown Live.

Both seem tame when compared to the stunts pulled during The Attitude Era.
But when held up to the scrutiny of today’s PG Era? Not so much. But are
such incidents the key to rebuilding an updated version of The Attitude
Era? Or are they completely unnecessary? Is it enough to merely rehash what happened before, or is that perhaps too transparent to work now?

Watch KO rant on Shane McMahon!

Therein lays the real issue here. The Attitude Era obviously cannot be repeated. It was a different time during the late 1990’s, much different
than 2019. Reviving what worked before does not guarantee it will work now
and everyone involved is surely aware of that. But as the weeks pass by,
it’s becoming clear that someone in WWE disagrees without that fact.

Kevin Owens is in the Stone Cold Steve Austin spot. KO is the
anti-authority babyface of the moment and it’s the same archetype that’s been recycled from the moment that Austin retired from WWE. Owens is
getting hot and the fans are loving what he brings. He’s even using the Stunner and he’s feuding with Shane McMahon. Is all of this a happy coincidence, or is it being done by design?

Kevin Owens is his own man, that much is certain. Just because he’s
treading on Austin’s territory does not necessarily mean that he’s mimicking The Texas Rattlesnake. KO is merely doing what is asked of him.
But the inference is obvious and there are too many comparisons to ignore.
    So why do this now?

The PG Era has been a problem for much of the WWE fanbase and it’s been a problem for quite some time. WWE knew the fans were upset at the silly storylines and even sillier characters. So why wait this long before
finally doing something about it? Why even push forward with The PG Era to begin with, when a modified version probably would have worked from day
one? Not surprisingly, the answer has to do with The Attitude Era.

Watch KO crash Shanes tow hall on SmackDown!

SmackDown Live will debut on the FOX Network in October of 2019. FOX wants
a more sports-based presentation with hard-hitting action and WWE wants to
give it to them. But Vince’c company will put its own spin on it, which
means FOX will apparently get a generous dose of adult angles as well. The
fact is that WWE perhaps doesn’t have a choice but to do so is to admit
that the company is going for the fans who came onboard during the late
    90’s, but then left later.

What’s the best way to do that, other than by reviving the era that brought those fans to the table to begin with? Going back to the well of The
Attitude Era seems like an outdated concept at this point, especially when considering the fact that over 20 years have passed since then. But from WWE’s viewpoint, there’s just no better way to move forward.

But how does WWE apply the attitude of The Attitude Era, to the modern generation of Superstars? Better yet, how does WWE do so and actually
expect it to succeed? The answer is that WWE can’t do it and it will ultimately fail. It’s not due to the overall content itself; it’s due to the men and women who will be expected to deliver that content.

The Attitude Era was indeed a different time in WWE but today’s generation
is also different from that generation. To believe that the WWE of 2019
should repeat the antics of 1998’s WWE, is to believe that only the stories made the difference. But in reality, it was a combination of the
storytelling and the talent as well. If the Superstars are not intriguing, competing and most importantly believable, then no amount of brilliant storytelling will work.

Fans have to connect to the Superstars in order for it to succeed. If the
crowd doesn’t feel it, then it’s a lost cause. WWE’s system of handing scripted lines to Superstars and overproducing those Superstars to the
point of no return, is not what the company needs right now. WWE needs real people feeling real emotion and displaying that emotion for the whole world
to see. The talent needs to be able to succeed, or fail, based upon their
own merit. Until this happens, nothing will change.

The fact is that WWE Creative needs to get out of the way and allow
Superstars the opportunity to flesh out their own characters. Fans fell in
love with Stone Cold and The Rock because they got a taste of the real men behind the characters and that just doesn’t happen too often anymore. The past will never be forgotten. But for WWE to have a future that will be remembered 20 years later, something must change now. Whether or not that
will happen, remains to be seen.

    Main Event Results - July 18, 2019

    Posted: 21 Jul 2019 06:19 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/main-event-results-july-18-2019/

    Main Event

    Date: July 18, 2019

Location: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, New York

Commentators: Renee Young, Byron Saxton, Sam Roberts

It’s another week where things should be getting more interesting but since Eric Bischoff hasn’t taken over Smackdown and Paul Heyman has less than
four weeks to set up Summerslam, there isn’t much time to set up anything
all that interesting. In other worlds, expect more of the normal Main Event stuff. Let’s get to it.

    Opening sequence.
    Dana Brooke vs. Sarah Logan

They lock up against the ropes to start with neither being able to get anywhere. Logan misses a forearm and gets knocked into the corner, setting
up a bulldog from Brooke. The running backflip splash gives Brooke two and it’s time for a slugout. Logan’s pop up headbutt puts Brooke down and we hit the howling. The chinlock goes on, followed by a running knee to
Brooke’s ribs for two. That means the standing Texas Cloverleaf but Brooke
is in the rope in a hurry. Logan misses some running knees in the corner
and it’s the Swanton to give Brooke the pin at 5:50.

Result: Dana Brooke b. Sarah Logan Swanton (5:50)

We look at Undertaker/Roman Reigns beating Shane McMahon/Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules.

We look at Kevin Owens coming after Shane McMahon.

    From Smackdown.

It’s already time for the town hall with the roster on the stage. Shane
says anyone can say anything they want as long as they’re respectful. Roman Reigns goes first and says that no one respects Shane. That doesn’t work
for Shane, so Reigns is going to be fined and dealt with later. Charlotte
goes next and thanks Shane for treating her and her family so great. Liv Morgan, who Owens mentioned last week, calls her out for having everything handed to her. Charlotte: “Do you work here?”

They argue for a bit until Shane calls them off and Buddy Murphy goes next. Murphy says he doesn’t like Owens being rude to Shane and wants to slap the taste out of Owens’ mouth. Shane approves of this and declares Murphy no longer the best kept secret in Smackdown history.

Apollo Crews says no one likes Shane and gets called out by Zelina Vega,
likely setting up a match with Andrade. Elias says that he is not Kevin
Owens but New Day cuts him off. Kofi Kingston rants about how no one gets
an opportunity under Shane. That’s enough for Shane, who says the town hall is over. Everyone leaves but Cesaro wants Aleister Black to pick a fight
with him tonight. Shane makes the match in a hurry and Cesaro leaves. Cue
Owens behind him and there’s the Stunner, after Owens misses Shane’s head on the first attempt. Owens runs off into the crowd to a rather positive reaction.

    Dig that run in:

[This post contains video, click to play]
    From later in the night.
    Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens

The threat of a Stunner sends Ziggler outside for a flip dive but the
Swanton hits raised knees back inside. Ziggler gets two off a Fameasser and
the chinlock goes on. Owens fights up and hits a superkick, setting up the Swanton for a rather close two. Cue Shane with a small army behind him to surround the ring. Ziggler hits the Zig Zag off the distraction for two (I bought that as the finish) and Owens slaps him in the face.

Ziggler pounds away in the corner and sends Owens hard into the post
(Shane: “That looks like that hurt.”). A superkick misses and Owens hits the Stunner, only to have Shane pull him out of the ring. Owens hits
another Stunner on Shane on the floor before running away in a smart move
    at around 6:15.

Result: Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens went to a no contest when Owens ran
    away (6:15)

You might have seen this before:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Shane promises to make Owens pay to end the show.

    From Raw.
    Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe

Joe takes him down by the wrist to start but Balor is back with a headlock takeover out of the corner. That’s reversed into a crucifix though and
    Balor is pinned at 1:24.

Result: Samoa Joe b. Finn Balor Crucifix (1:24)

Post match Joe tries to choke Balor out but gets stomped in the chest. The Sling Blade sets up the Coup de Grace to get Balor’s heat back. The match
was so short he probably didn’t even take his coat and shoes off. Balor
poses but his music stops and the lights go off. We hear a beatdown taking place in the ring and the lights come back on to reveal….Bray Wyatt, in the Fiend mask, with Sister Abigail to Balor. Fans: “HOLY S***!”

    It took long enough:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Titus O’Neil/No Way Jose vs. Eric Young/EC3

EC3 sends Jose into the corner so it can be off to Young in a hurry. That’s fine with Jose, who brings Titus in to take over on Young in a hurry. Titus slams Jose onto Young and we take an early break.  Back with Jose hitting
an airplane spin for two on Young but an EC3 distraction lets Young knock
Jose off the top. EC3’s running neckbreaker and Young comes back in for the stomping. A suplex gets Jose out of trouble and it’s back to Titus for the house cleaning. Jose comes back in as everything breaks down, with EC3
grabbing a rollup for the pin at 8:48.

Result: Eric Young/EC3 b. Titus ONeil/No Way Jose Rollup to Jose (8:48)

We recap Brock Lesnar cashing in Money in the Bank to win the Universal
    Title at Extreme Rules.

    From Raw.
    Battle Royal

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Big E., Sami Zayn, Cesaro, Braun Strowman, Rey Mysterio, Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton

The winner gets Lesnar at Summerslam, Lashley has taped ribs and Lesnar and Heyman are watching from the stage. It’s a brawl to start with Corbin going after Rollins and Strowman punching Lashley in the bad ribs. Cesaro starts running at everyone in the corner to take over, including the Swing to Rey. Another one to Big E. is broken up and Lashley dumps Cesaro for the first elimination. Strowman does the same to Lashley and it’s time for a Strowman vs. Big E. showdown.

Big E.’s running splash staggers Strowman and Big E. manages the Big Ending but walks into the RKO. Sami gets rid of Big E. but walks into the RKO. The
619 connects and Orton gets rid of Zayn. There’s an RKO to Reigns followed
by another 619 but Reigns shrugs off both finishers and Superman Punches
Orton through the ropes. Rey hits a springboard seated senton on Roman but
gets tossed by Orton. We’re down to Corbin, Rollins, Reigns, Strowman and Orton with the latter on the floor.

Strowman puts Corbin in the ropes so Reigns can hit the apron dropkick. A superkick from Rollins is enough to get rid of Corbin and get us down to
four. Reigns spears Rollins by mistake and Strowman puts Roman on the
apron. It’s the Chris Benoit/Big Show elimination but Rollins knocks Reigns out as well. Rollins thinks he’s won and has to hang on when Orton comes
back in to throw him to the apron as well. The hanging DDT brings Rollins
back in and Orton stops to stare at Lesnar. The RKO is broken up with a superkick to the ribs and the Stomp is enough for Rollins to get the title
    shot at 7:47.

Result: Seth Rollins won a battle royal last eliminating Randy Orton (7:47)

Post match, Heyman promises that Rollins is going to be conquered. Rollins tells Heyman to shut up and promises a repeat of Wrestlemania. Lesnar
teases coming down for a fight to end the show.
