Theres One More To Go. What Happened Before And After This Weeks SmackDown Live?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2019 12:47 AM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/theres-one-go-happened-weeks-smackdown-live/

Turn on the lights after SmackDown. There are a lot of wrestlers on the
WWE roster and a lot of them don’t get on television all that often. This can become a problem for a lot of their careers as you can’t get very far without people being able to see you. However, there is a way to get the
live crowd to see you without putting the wrestlers on television, and that
is what WWE does on Tuesdays.

WWE had a dark match both before and after this week’s SmackDown Live, as tends to be their custom. According to PWInsider by way of 411mania.com,
the match that took place before the show saw Heavy Machinery defeat the B
Team in what was described as a comedy match which included a dance off.
After 205 Live went off the air, Roman Reigns defeated Drew McIntyre. Both Reigns and McIntyre appeared during the show but neither wrestled a match.

The two of them do have a history together. Check out Reigns vs. McIntyre
    at WrestleMania 35:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: It makes sense to put Reigns and McIntyre on the show as the two
of them are some of the bigger stars in the company. If WWE wants the fans
to stick around after 205 Live is over, they need to offer something rather
big and seeing Reigns live is a nice enough treat. There are only so many
ways to make something like this work and WWE seemed to figure that out
    this time around.

What are you expecting next from Reigns? Will Heavy Machinery ever win the
Tag Team Titles? Let us know in the comments below.

Theyre On The Edge Of Their Seats. What Was Daniel Bryans Big Announcement?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 11:55 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/theyre-edge-seats-daniel-bryans-big-announcement/

The negative answer? WWE is in a pretty bad place with its television
shows at the moment as the fans just are not watching what the company is offering. The best solution would seem to be finding some new and exciting ideas to make the fans stick around, but they aren’t exactly going that
way. There was a big segment announced for one of this week’s shows and it could have been big.

This week’s SmackDown Live was advertised as having Daniel Bryan making a career changing announcement of some sort. A promo video showed him saying
he knew what he had to do and giving a maniacal look was posted to WWE’s YouTube page. However, Bryan made no announcement on the show, as he tried three different times but could not manage to say anything. There is no
word on when the announcement will come, or if it will at all.

The tease is better than the execution. Check out Bryan’s near insane statement:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure what this was going to be, but it was pretty clearly
a bait and switch. This gets annoying in a hurry and WWE has been doing it
a lot lately. The idea is to get fans to tune in, but at some point you
have to give them something. You can only get away with something like
this so often and I’m not sure how much longer WWE can make them work so well.

What do you think Bryan’s announcement will be? When will he make it? Let us know in the comments below.

There Goes Another One. Third Title Match Set For Summerslam.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 11:51 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/goes-another-one-third-title-match-set-summerslam/

They aren’t wasting time here. With less than four weeks to go before Summerslam, it’s time to set up the card and they have to hurry. That
means a lot of matches are going to be added to the card in rapid fire
fashion as there isn’t much of another way to set things up. There were
two matches added on Monday and another was added on Tuesday night as well.

This week on SmackDown Live, SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley issued a challenge to Ember Moon to defend her title at Summerslam. Moon accepted, setting up a first time ever meeting between the two. The challenge came
after Bayley appeared as a mystery partner for Moon in a tag team win over Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose when Moon pinned Rose.

It’s a big chance. Check out Moon’s reaction to the match being made: [This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This match came out of nowhere but the most important detail is
the fact that it is a fresh one. Part of the problem with WWE as of late
has been the amount of matches being repeated. Just adding Moon to the
scene opens up a fresh door in the division and something that needs to be done. If nothing else, it’s something other than Charlotte, who felt like the obvious way to go.

Do you like the sound of this match? Who leaves with the title? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Not Quite Yet? Big Update On Eric Bischoff Taking Over SmackDown Live.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 11:48 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/not-quite-yet-big-update-eric-bischoff-taking-smackdown-live/

The pre-control stage. One of the most talked about stories in wrestling
so far this year has been Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff taking the reins of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live respectively. The two of them have
some very different histories in wrestling and fans were interested in
seeing how they took control of their new shows. It turns out that there
might be a bit of a delay.

According to Dave Meltzer on Figure Four Daily, Bischoff had no input in
this week’s episode of SmackDown Live and was not even present for the
show. There is no word why this is the case though there is no reason to believe that Bischoff is in any sort of trouble. Bischoff has been in the process of relocating his family to Connecticut to begin his new position.
At the moment, it is not clear when he will be starting.

You remember Bischoff right? Check out some people talking about him:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: My guess is that Bischoff just isn’t ready to start working yet
but you can’t imagine it is going to be that much longer. Heyman had an advantage on him by not having to change much in order to get to WWE headquarters. It’s a different world for Bischoff so the slightly longer transition time is expected. Hopefully he shows up soon and the shows get
    a little better.

Who do you think will do better in their role? When will Bischoff start
his job? Let us know in the comments below.

Hang On A Second? A Teased Match Might Not Be Taking Place At Summerslam
    After All.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 05:10 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/hang-second-teased-match-might-not-taking-place-summerslam/

Not so fast? There are times where you can’t tell what is going on in
WWE. Sometimes the stories make perfect sense and you can see where the stories are going in the next weeks or months. That can make for some less than inspiring builds to shows, but other times, WWE throws in a curve ball
and you don’t get what you’re expecting. That seems to be the case at the moment.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is currently not planning a match between the Miz and Dolph Ziggler for this year’s Summerslam. This week on Monday Night Raw, Ziggler was a guest on MizTV
and insulted Miz’s wife Maryse, triggering a brawl. At the moment, it isn’t clear what either of the two of them will be doing at Summerslam instead.

This isn’t setting up a match. Check out the MizTV brawl:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s quite the relief as I never need to see Ziggler vs. Miz again. The two of them have fought so many times over the years that the
feud has little appeal to me anymore. Having Miz as the good guy could be
a chance of pace but that doesn’t mean it’s enough to make the story interesting. I’m not sure what we’re going to be seeing from the two of them instead, but what we’re getting is likely going to be better than the alternative.

What do you want to see from Miz and Ziggler? Do you want to see them
wrestle again? Let us know in the comments below.

Some Official Numbers. How Did WWE Extreme Rules vs. AEW Fight For The
    Fallen Go Over The Weekend?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 05:02 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/official-numbers-extreme-rules-vs-fight-fallen-go-weekend/

The numbers are in. This past weekend, the modern wrestling war saw its
first head to head battle with AEW and WWE airing events at the same time.
Well kind of at least as WWE aired an Evolve event on the WWE Network, but
the bigger event was the next night, when WWE presented Extreme Rules. So
that brings up the obvious question: which show made more of an impact?

According to Forbes, Extreme Rules handily defeated AEW’s Fight For The Fallen in the metric of trending searches on Google. AEW did not crack the
top twenty searches on Saturday while “WWE Extreme Rules” and “WWE Network”
were two of the top twenty searches on Sunday. This evens the score, as
AEW won the Google search battle on the night of Double Or Nothing.

This was the show that won the weekend. Check out the full results of
    Extreme Rules:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it does make it clear that WWE is still the dominant force in wrestling. That may
not be the biggest surprise to everyone, but it shows how much more AEW has
to do to come into WWE’s league. That isn’t the biggest surprise in the world, as WWE has been the king for so long. While that could change, it
is certainly the case for now.

Which show did you like more? Which company is in a better place at the moment? Let us know in the comments below.

The Bad Side. More Details Emerge On Jeff Hardys Arrest Over The Weekend.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 04:58 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/bad-side-details-emerge-jeff-hardys-arrest-weekend/

There’s no good way to spin this. Jeff Hardy has had some issues over the years to put it mildly. While he is an incredibly talented performer and
one of the most successful wrestlers in the history of WWE, he certainly
has some problems that keep flaring up. One of them is a problem with
alcohol, which came back up over the weekend when he was arrested for
public intoxication. We now know a bit more about it.

According to TMZ.com, police reports show that Hardy was found passed out
in a public stairwell in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday and
smelling of alcohol. This caused the police to arrest him, with Hardy
paying his fine of $153. The cased is now considered closed, assuming
Hardy does not attempt to fight the ticket in court. There is no
indication that WWE will punish him for his actions. Hardy is currently rehabbing a knee injury.

Hardy has done some questionable things in the ring as well. Check out
some of his more out there ideas:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This doesn’t make Hardy look good whatsoever, but it does appear
to be something that is already over and done with. It was a poor decision
on Hardy’s part, but what does this lead to when he’s out of wrestling for good? These problems seem to flare up when he’s injured or out of the
ring, so what happens when he’s not going to have wrestling to occupy his time anymore?

What is next for Hardy? Will he be a singles or tag wrestler when he comes back? Let us know in the comments below.

(WATCH): What Happens Next. WWE Released Video From After Monday Night Raw.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 04:56 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-happens-next-wwe-released-video-monday-night-raw/

That’s the next logical step. Extreme Rules had quite the surprise ending
as Brock Lesnar cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Seth Rollins
to become the Universal Champion for the third time. That left WWE to get ready for the build to Summerslam, where Rollins will get his rematch after winning a battle royal on Monday Night Raw. There’s a little more to it
    than that though.

WWE has released a video from after this week’s Monday Night Raw, showing Rollins venting a bit of frustration and showing some emotion before
leaving the ring to end the night. Rollins had just finished winning the battle royal and had wanted to face Lesnar immediately after. Lesnar
teased coming to the ring for the fight but backed away instead, leaving Rollins alone to end the show.

He’s got some fire. Check out Rollins after the show was over:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s about you could have expected and it’s better than seeing Rollins vs. Baron Corbin instead. The Summerslam rematch might not be the
most interesting in the world but it’s what makes the most sense. There isn’t much time to set up a fresh challenger for Lesnar and Rollins
deserves a rematch. That being said, you can only get through the same
match so many times before it stops being interesting.

Are you interested in the rematch? Who leaves with the title? Let us know
    in the comments below.

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results - July 16, 2019

    Posted: 16 Jul 2019 04:53 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/smackdown-live-coverage-results-july-16-2019/

    Smackdown

    Date: July 16, 2019

    Location: DCU Center, Worcester, Massachusetts

Commentators: Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton

It looks to be an eventful night this week and believe it or not, a big
focus is going to be on Shane McMahon. We’re going to have a town hall meeting where wrestlers and people on the show can air their grievances
with Shane, which could go a lot of ways. Other than that, Daniel Bryan is going to make a career changing announcement. Let’s get to it.

We open with a recap of Kevin Owens calling out Shane McMahon for taking
    over the show.

Earlier today, Owens arrived when Shane met him at the door. Tonight, Owens
has the night off because Shane is not having him interrupt the town hall.

We look at Undertaker Tombstoning Shane for the win on Sunday at Extreme
    Rules.

It’s already time for the town hall with the roster on the stage. Shane
says anyone can say anything they want as long as they’re respectful. Roman Reigns goes first and says that no one respects Shane. That doesn’t work
for Shane, so Reigns is going to be fined and dealt with later. Charlotte
goes next and thanks Shane for treating her and her family so great. Liv Morgan, who Owens mentioned last week, calls her out for having everything handed to her. Charlotte: “Do you work here?”

They argue for a bit until Shane calls them off and Buddy Murphy goes next. Murphy says he doesn’t like Owens being rude to Shane and wants to slap the taste out of Owens’ mouth. Shane approves of this and declares Murphy no longer the best kept secret in Smackdown history.

Apollo Crews says no one likes Shane and gets called out by Zelina Vega,
likely setting up a match with Andrade. Elias says that he is not Kevin
Owens but New Day cuts him off. Kofi Kingston rants about how no one gets
an opportunity under Shane. That’s enough for Shane, who says the town hall is over. Everyone leaves but Cesaro wants Aleister Black to pick a fight
with him tonight. Shane makes the match in a hurry and Cesaro leaves. Cue
Owens behind him and there’s the Stunner, after Owens misses Shane’s head on the first attempt. Owens runs off into the crowd to a rather positive reaction.
    Aleister Black vs. Cesaro

Rematch from Sunday where Black won. Black flips away from Cesaro to start
and has a seat as we take a break. Back with Cesaro holding a chinlock but Black fights up and hits the running moonsault for two. Cesaro kicks him in
the face for the same and it’s off to a Crossface. That’s broken up and Black hits a knee, followed by Black Mass for the pin at 6:17.

Result: Aleister Black b. Cesaro Black Mass (6:17)

Dolph Ziggler comes up to Shane in the back and says he wants to teach
Owens a lesson tonight. That’s a no because Owens is probably long gone. Ziggler can get him back though, and it can be the main event tonight.
    That’s cool with Shane.

After Extreme Rules, Daniel Bryan ranted about how he failed in his quest
to change the planet. If he still wants to do it, he has to go where Bryan
has never gone before and he knows what he has to do. Bryan looked a little insane here.
    Liv Morgan vs. Charlotte

Charlotte shoves her down to start so Morgan is right back up with a
dropkick and a little wave. Liv gets in another knockdown for two but a
heck of a powerbomb takes her down. The Figure Eight makes Liv tap at 2:26.

Result: Charlotte b. Liv Morgan Figure Eight (2:26)

Post match Liv grabs a headset and says that Charlotte was right. When she comes back, she’s going to be real.

    Ziggler finds Owens’ number.
Mandy Rose/Sonya Deville vs. Ember Moon/???

Moon needs a mystery partner and it’s…..Bayley. Mandy and Sonya jump them to start and Bayley gets choked on the ropes. Bayley fights back in a hurry
and hands it off to Moon for the kicks to Mandy’s ribs. The Bayley to Belly sets up the Eclipse to finish Rose at 1:32.

Result: Ember Moon/Bayley b. Mandy Rose/Sonya Deville Eclipse to Rose
    (1:32)

Post match Bayley says she wants to elevate the division against someone she’s never faces before. She offers the Summerslam shot to Moon, who of course accepts.

Shinsuke Nakamura is proud of winning the Intercontinental Title and is
free to rain chaos. Ali comes up to congratulate him and looks at the title.

Here’s New Day for a chat. Xavier Woods brags about Kofi retaining the
title on Sunday but Kofi talks about the two of them winning the Tag Team Titles for the sixth time. They’re like three African American leprechauns with all the gold (Woods: “THESE ARE WHITE GOLD!”). They know what Daniel Bryan’s announcement and they accept the Tag Team Title rematch for right here and right now.

Cue Bryan and Rowan….but then they turn around and leave without saying anything. Then they come back, still say nothing, and leave again. They
come back a third time but this time Bryan drops the mic without saying anything. Now it’s Samoa Joe coming out to say he’s ready for a championship opportunity. The New Day is throwing out title chances so Kofi
can do the same right here tonight.

Hang on though as here’s Elias to cut him off. Elias says Joe has already gotten his shot but here’s Randy Orton to interrupt as well. He hasn’t had the title in a long time and will get it back with an RKO. Elias says they can’t all have title matches tonight but we can have a six man tag instead. New Day likes the sound of it, with each one getting in a playa for a
bonus. Orton: “Nah. I’m good.” Kofi accuses the Viper of going limp and the
    match is on.
New Day vs. Elias/Samoa Joe/Randy Orton

Kofi elbows Elias in the face to start but an Orton distraction breaks up a cover attempt. Joe comes in and hammers away at Kofi but the running double stomp gives Kofi two. It’s off to Woods and New Day hits their parade of various jumping shots to Joe for two more. Elias comes back in and gets
caught in the spanking abdominal stretch from Big E., followed by the Honor Roll to give Woods two of his own. Orton gets in a cheap shot from the
apron though and Elias takes over.

Back from a break with Woods fighting out of a chinlock but not being able
to make a tag. Elias’ superplex is broken up and Woods hits a missile dropkick, allowing the hot tag to Kofi to clean house on Orton. The RKO
attempt is broken up as everything breaks down. Big E. gives Orton the
belly to belly and Joe is low bridged to the floor. Woods follows with a
big running flip dive but Joe grabs the Clutch. Elias tries the running
knee on Big E. and doesn’t come close but Big E. goes down anyway. Back in and Trouble in Paradise hits Elias’ side, leaving Kofi to take the RKO for the pin at 9:25.

Result: Elias/Samoa Joe/Randy Orton b. New Day RKO to Kingston (9:25)

R-Truth is hiding in some kind of a box when Carmella comes to find him.
He’s tired of hiding but she thinks he should hide in plain sight at Comic Con. Truth: “Don’t call me a con. I did my time and paid my debt to society.” Eventually he gets the idea.
Women’s Tag Team Titles: Kabuki Warriors vs. IIconics

The Warriors are challenging and don’t even get an entrance. The IIconics
are shown at ringside to start so this match really does mean as little as
it seems. Shane chops Royce in the chest to start and Asuka adds a running
knee for two. The running hip attack misses though and Kay hits a big boot
for two. Asuka is right back with a spinning kick to the head to send her outside and the IIconics take the countout at 1:19.

Result: Kabuki Warriors b. IIconics via countout (1:19)

Post match the Warriors destroy the champs even more.
    Apollo Crews vs. Andrade

Crews jumps him before the bell and the beatdown is on in a hurry. Crews
says he can go but gets knocked into the corner again. Andrade hits the
running knees in the corner but Crews crucifixes him for the pin at 54
    seconds.

Result: Apollo Crews b. Andrade Crucifix (0:54)

We look back at Bray Wyatt’s return last night on Raw.
    Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens

The threat of a Stunner sends Ziggler outside for a flip dive but the
Swanton hits raised knees back inside. Ziggler gets two off a Fameasser and
the chinlock goes on. Owens fights up and hits a superkick, setting up the Swanton for a rather close two. Cue Shane with a small army behind him to surround the ring. Ziggler hits the Zig Zag off the distraction for two and Owens slaps him in the face.

Ziggler pounds away in the corner and sends Owens hard into the post
(Shane: “That looks like that hurt.”). A superkick misses and Owens hits the Stunner, only to have Shane pull him out of the ring. Owens hits
another Stunner on Shane on the floor before running away in a smart move
    at around 6:15.

Result: Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler went to a no contest when Owens ran
    away (6:15)

Shane promises to make Owens pay to end the show.

    Results

Aleister Black b. Cesaro – Black Mass

Charlotte b. Liv Morgan – Figure Eight

    Impact Wrestling

    Date: July 12, 2019

    Hosts: Don Callis, Josh Matthews

This is a different kind of show as it is a fallout show from
Slammiversary, meaning it’s going to be similar to a post Takeover show in NXT. Just like those shows, there was a match taped to fit in here, but the majority of the show is going to be about the pay per view. It was a good
show so the extra attention is a good thing. Let’s get to it.

    Opening sequence.

Don and Josh talk about how awesome Slammiversary was and how many people

Video on Moose vs. Rob Van Dam, which didn’t do Van Dam many favors.

Van Dam says he underestimated Moose. He wants another shot though.

Moose says he used to think Van Dam was the best in the world but the

Video on Eddie Edwards vs. Killer Kross. Eddie has gone near the edge and
Kross keeps pushing him, setting up their First Blood match at
    Slammiversary.

Eddie loves the feeling of not knowing what he’s going to do next.

Kross likes Eddie changing and wants to know what he’s going to turn into. Now Eddie is just like him.

Josh and Don are in an office called the Impact War Room where they’re
going to talk to some dignitaries throughout the night. First up is Jimmy Jacobs, who liked the chaos in the women’s Monster’s Ball match. Don thought it was the best Monster’s Ball ever and Taya Valkyrie impressed him with her surprise win.

Video on Monster’s Ball with James Mitchell narrating about how the plan
was to have Havok win the title. It would have been ok if Su Yung won, but it’s not ok that Taya retained.

Taya says it wasn’t fair that she had to defend against so many people but she did it anyway.

Mitchell snaps about how crazy Su is and wants to know where she is.

D’Lo Brown is now with Impact full time and talks about the Tag Team Title match, which was changed just two days before Slammiversary when the North
