• Best TV Series of all Time

From Irish Mike@21:1/5 to All on Wed Feb 22 21:42:47 2023
There have been a huge number of television series.
Some come and go in a flash and others we may
have heard of but never watched. But for some of us
there was a TV series that we liked so much that we
watched every single episode, season after season.

So, in your opinion, what is the best TV series of all time?
The one you always watched and never missed? Well
for me there is no question, It was "NYPD Blue".
    And you say?

"The Wire" was a good, gritty show but I always wondered if the

that one good looking white male detective with the black hair who was going through a divorce. He was a good character, but there were times when it
too heavily focused on him(which was not what the show was supposed to be)

I loved season 2 because it really dove deep into a subject that doesn’t
get a lot of TV attention and did a great job of it. There are zillions of
cop shows, hundreds of drug shows, many of them are excellent. But no one
else has given that treatment to a port. It was unique and fascinating.

As a Jersey boy, the Sopranos for sure.
The Crown for a historical perspective and quite good acting.
    Breaking Bad.
    Seinfeld, again the Jersey connection.
Hill Street Blues since it really broke new ground with the multiple
    subplots.

Nothing beats Band of Brothers, if that fits the category. Then Breaking Bad. Cheers. NYPD Blue. The office seems pretty timeless.

I’ve enjoyed The Crown but less so as it gets closer to present day and events I remember.

Also the casting for Prince Charles in the latest season was totally off
base. My wife and I know call him Prince McNulty, heh. (Speaking of The
    Wire).

I love the Twilight Zone reruns. For more modern shows I'd say Bored to Death, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Vera. Lost let me down in a big, big, huge way, so much that I now hate it. Oh yeah, that's right. You guys don't hate anything.

I liked Treme for two seasons, then lost interest. My wife was a big fan of The Wire.

So, in your opinion, what is the best TV series of all time?
The one you always watched and never missed? Well
for me there is no question, It was "NYPD Blue".
    And you say?

I liked Star Trek, both 1st gen and 2nd gen. Other spinoffs not as much.

For me, it's always going to be "The Wire."

I've been trying that but can't get by the first or second episode.

I may have to get a couple of months of HBO to try watching it; I loved Breaking Bad.

I still have trouble with the patience to watch TV. I've been able to
binge watch only 3 series in my life (Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, and Occupied).

Please - there's only one answer to this.

    The Prisoner.

As proof of this, they actually tried remaking it as a miniseries, but they modified it so that it would be, well, "more understandable" to today's audiences, and it was a total mess. (It did have the occasional reference to the early series - for
example, in one scene, Number Six is in a classroom when the teacher asks if there are any questions, and Six says, "I have one - Who Is Number One?," to which pretty much every student raises their hand and one answers along the lines of, "There is no
    Number One.")

Had it been made today, there would have been a 90-minute movie tying up all of the loose ends that would probably challenge Seinfeld (among other shows) for "worst TV series ending ever" (but that's another story for another thread). I wouldn't be a bit
surprised if Patrick McGoohan's tombstone reads, "Why did he resign? You'll never know."

I gave that one a try. I couldn't get into it. It's *very* dated.

It’s hard for me to pick anything other than MASH. Not only was it great, but I ended up watching most episodes many times. Our dorm TV room used to fill up three times a day—when the syndicated run of MASH was on.

I did really like Hill Street Blues. Also the best Science Fiction was either seasons 3-6 of Star Trek Next Generation or Babylon 5.
