Could it have possibly been corralled? Sure....I guess. But this is a point I keep harping on- players typically don't catch those balls where they only get the distal part of their fingers on it. Especially when they have to extend like that.
And we could argue whether it was a distal fingers situation or not, but even if you make the case that it wasn't it's still very unlikely a player survives the ground with the nfl rules on catches the way they are. He wasn't going to make that catch >
9/10 times. Hence it's not a great throw. It's an overthrow.
It's like the price is right- being the *smallest* bit over makes it a bad throw. Whereas being a little underthrown(depending on the coverage and situation) can mean it's a really good throw......
